Born from the new Sigma Cine family of products, the High Speed Zoom lenses leverage the outstanding optical design of the company’s world-renowned Global Vision still photography lenses. Demonstrated for the first time to the public in the United States, attendees to the 2016 PDN PhotoPlus International Conference + Expo (PPE), held at the Javits Convention Center in New York City from October 20-22, 2016, can see first-hand the new Sigma Cine family of lenses:

Cine High Speed Zoom Line – 18-35mm T2 and 50-100mm T2
The high speed zoom line, which is compatible with the Super35 image size standard, offers the constant aperture of T2 throughout the zoom range with superior optical performance that is capable of high-resolution 6K-8K shooting. Delivering the highest image quality in its class, the High Speed Zoom is ergonomically compact and designed for E, EF and PL camera system mounts.

Cine FF Zoom Line – 24-35mm T2.2 FF
Compatible with a full-frame image sensor, the FF Zoom’s outstanding optical performance also supports 6K-8K shooting. Because so few lenses cater to the requirements of the latest digital cinema cameras’ image sensors, this line provides a rare option for cinematographers. The FF Zoom is designed for E and EF camera system mounts.

Cine FF High Speed Prime Line – 20mm T1.5 FF, 24mm T1.5 FF, 35mm T1.5 FF, 50mm T1.5 FF and 85mm T1.5 FF
The Cine High Speed Prime lineup features lenses ranging from 20mm to 85mm, with all five touting an aperture of T1.5. Highly compact and compatible with full-frame sensors, these lenses offer superior resolution. They bring a consistent level of light to the production, offering greater consistency to any film’s color, contrast and overall look before it enters post-production. The FF High Speed Prime line is designed for E, EF and PL camera system mounts.

(SR3) Sony is rumored to announce a new FS7 mark II E-mount camcorder in November

Share

sony_fs7

As I’ve told you previously there is one more Sony announcement that will happen in November. I got two messages from new sources:

Source 1:

http://www.inter-bee.com/en/ announcement coming, e-mount camcorder”

Source 2:

“In case you didn’t know already, I just got confirmation on the upcoming Sony event mid November where they will announce their new fs7ii camera :)”

Trusted sources confirmed that this Sony announcement is not about a new A7 or A9 camera. So it is very possible the these two new sources are spot on with their info.

Top 20 Features I Want in the Next Sony a7Riii and a7Siii Cameras (by Dave Dugdale)

Share

Dave Dugdale (Learningvideo) listed the Top 20 Features he Wants in the Next Sony a7Riii and a7Siii Cameras:

  1. Better AF. The algo they have in the Sony fly-by-wire lenses is very frustrating when shooting video. Touch screen for pulling focus would kind of fix that.
  2. The colors science improved from the original a7s, but keep working on the colors. Perhaps they can come up with another Color Mode that emulates Arri, just call it Arri I am sure they would not mind.
  3. Touch screen (I skip 4 in the video because I combined it with the touch screen)
  4. Flip out to the side screen
  5. A easy to edit codec for Davinci Resolve. Not asking for Prores, but something that cuts like butter in Resolve like Prores and is not so CPU intensive when editing in 4ktop 20
  6. Custom WB in movie mode
  7. Assign APS-C to button!
  8. Film with shutter button
  9. Create another log profile that is a combination of slog2 and slog3. Slog3 is too flat but easier to grade by hand, Slog2 is about as flat as I want it to be but is harder to grade by hand. Keep the min ISO to 800 for this new log profile.
  10. Allow 3rd party besides Zeiss AF information to they can design lenses that work just as fast as the native glass, the more you can expand the E mount system the more you will sell these cameras.
  11. Faster chips to improve rolling shutter.
  12. Better menus, sounds like they are coming
  13. Apps don’t lose settings from before
  14. Make it so simple to transfer images to my smart phone
  15. Increase Battery life
  16. Improve IBIS
  17. Usb3
  18. Distance scale in movie mode
  19. Louder speaker like on the iPhone.
  20. RGB Histogram for video

Sigma debunks the rumor suggesting they are quitting A-mount production

Share

150mm

A rumor on Diyphotography hinted about the possibility that Sigma may quit their A-mount lens production:

“According to our source, Sony makes a fraction of the business for Sigma. They also note that Sigma wants more focus in their factories on their cine line, and resources are shifting.”

But asked by Photoscala Sigma Germany stated that the “suggestion” about them stopping their A-mount lens production as a whole are untrue and they will keep making A-mount lenses. The only thing they did is stop producing a few older A-mount lenses:

105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro
70-200mm f/2.8 APO EX DG HSM OS FLD
150mm F2.8 APO EX DG OS HSM Macro
12-24mm f/4.5–5.6 AF II DG HSM

Sigma also said that while it’s true that demand on A-mount lenses decreased the past years there could be also a return of interest thanks to the new A99II.

To paraphrase Mark Twain: The reports of A-mount being death are greatly exaggerated …. :)

(SR5) Correction on the Sony announcement time (not this week but in 2-3 weeks)

Share

a-mount

Important rumor correction: The next Sony announcement will not take place this week but in 2-3 weeks (UPDATE: between mid October and early November is the new info). Thanks to the feedback of various sources we learned there was an internal miscomunication at Sony (Thanks the two sources pointing out this). Sorry to say you have to wait a tiny bit more!

I can also confirm this is not an announcement about a new A7 camera. If you are waiting for a new A7markIII you will have to wait til 2017.

Just a curiosity: Seems like Sony lately is in for at least one announcement per month: 50mm Zeiss FE in July, 50mm macro in August, A99II and 18-100mm in September and A6500 in October…
