First Amazon sales ranking results: Welcome back in the top ranking A-mount!

Share

a99ii

Considered that most of the bloggers and reviewers thought A-mount is dead the A99II preorders are surprisingly good according to the Amazon DSLR ranking (Click here to see the list). On the first sales day it’s doing better than the A7sII which was the last announced FF E-mount camera. Not bad at all.

Sony A99II preorder links:
In USA at BHphoto, Adorama and Amazon.
In Europe at Calumet Germany and WexUK.

And Sony Europe posted the official In-depth look video at the Sony α99 II A-mount camera:

Kimio Maki confirms: “Sony will continue to create new cameras for A-mount”

a-mount

SAR was one of the few sites saying A-mount wasn’t dead and that the A99II would come (although the release timing was unclear). Still, there are many other bloggers and folks that believe that the A99II will be the last A-mount camera…and therefore A-mount is dead anyway. Well…wrong again! Sony manager Kimio Maki just got interviewed by Amateur Photographer:

“Maki confirmed that Sony will continue to create new camera systems for A-mount, telling AP he is confident there is sufficient demand.” Maki said: “Running A-mount alongside the E-mount is very important. A-mount is a keeper.”

And there are many more info on that second article:

  1. Sony will develop new A-mount lenses depending on the customers request
  2. A-mount users hail from Japan and Europe, although he did not know how many exist worldwide.
  3. About touchscreen: “We may have to add touchscreen panels to our entry-level models, but professionals don’t require it. If the professionals change their mind and put in the request we may need to change this in the future.

Just an idea: Sony should release a lens roadmap for A-mount. That’s the kind of things that create confidence around the system!

You can now preorder the new Sony A99II:
In USA at BHphoto, Adorama and Amazon.
In Europe at Calumet Germany and WexUK.

The very first Photokina hands-on with the new Loxia 85mm f/2.4 lens

Share

loxia

I got the impression the new Loxia 85mm lens didn’t get a love here on the SAR community. And I guess the main issue is the high price ($1,399 at BHphoto and Adorama). That said the lens promises to deliver a stellar performance. Diglloyd writes:

The Zeiss Loxia 85mm f/2.4 Sonnar delivers performance that beats out the best Leica M APO lenses, according to its (measured) MTF chart provided by Zeiss (Leica MTF charts are theoretical computed, not measured).
The Loxia 85/2.4 is a an exciting lens for Sony shooters because it is close to Otus-grade performance, yet native-mount for Sony in a relatively compact package. With a 2 or 3 frame focus stack, I’d bet that many outdoor images can be made that will be jaw dropping in detail—I’m sure looking forward to a 70 megapixel Sony of some sort.

And here you have the first Photokina hands-on video with the new Loxia lens:
