Robbert:This may be interesting to some of the readers of sonyalpharumors. Yesterday I did my first production combining footage from the A7RII and the DJI Inspire 1 Pro (X5). I recorded with the sony in Super 35mm mode with a 24mm E-mount lens in AF mode on a DJI Ronin M. Shot in the Cine2 profile and it worked beautifully together with the footage from the drone.
All worked great and we had a blast making my first video using aerial footage. Here is the link to the video: https://vimeo.com/143479222

Jonathan:My visit to Turkey was just a day long, walking the streets in a caffeine-fuelled haze. But I’m glad I visited, just barely scratching the surface of the thankfully peaceful side of a troubled country. Turkey Album.
Russia is also troubled, of course, but there were no indications in St. Petersburg, where I spent a week with my friend Vladimir, who flew up from the Siberian city Ekaterinburg, Russia’s third-largest.  The architecture and history of St. Petersburg were fascinating. North America has nothing comparable.  The subway systems in St. Petersburg and Moscow are also impressive.  People move in a smooth, uninterrupted laminar flow.  I wish we had such an efficient and highly-used system in Los Angeles.  But what really left an impression on me was Russia’s character.  Once you get past the requisite public frowns, people are truly warm and the culture is welcoming.  I even began to enjoy salted frozen pig’s fat accompanied by vodka and sometimes dried horse meat.  On my way to Mongolia, I made the most of my 9-hour Moscow layover by visiting Red Square and the Kremlin. Russia Album.
Mongolia represented Matt’s and my third trip together, bringing travelers from around the world.  We had a full tour with 12 people from 5 continents, and in spite of some weather woes (an early snow in the Gobi, brutally windy and dusty conditions at the Eagle Festival in the far west, a cancelled return flight to Ulaanbaatar), everybody held up remarkably well.  Unfortunately, my brand new camera did not, and I just sent it in for repair.  I hope to get it back before I head to the Amazon in two weeks to Valle de Candamo, known as the “Last Jungle without People.”

Dpreview claims the Sony A6000 is the best Interchangeable Lens Camera within the $500-800 price range.

Bildschirmfoto 2015-11-12 um 21.01.59

Dpreview established the Sony A6000 as the best system camera within the $500-$800 price range:

“We really cannot say enough good things about the Sony a6000. Though we have it in the $500-800 category, due to its MRSP, it can often be acquired, body only, for closer to $500. And what does that get you? AF performance in line with the best in its class, great image quality, solid video quality/features with AF and no hunting, and a nice EVF, packed into a compact, enthusiast-friendly body.”

Probably that’s the reason why Sony didn’t hurry with the A6000 successor release. There is yet no real competition…

Zeiss: In August Sony sold more system cameras than Canon and Nikon (on German Market).

Share

Planet5D posted that video interview with Conversation with Michael Schielhlen, Senior Director from Zeiss. There are a couple of info to share:

1) Michael said that Sony is very popular in Germany. In August for the very first time Sony sold more interchangeable cameras than Nikon and Canon!
2) Zeiss is already working on the third Batis lens development
3) For both Batis and Loxia lenses the next interesting focal lengths are super wide and 135 and 200mm focal lengths
4) Zeiss is surprised by the huge demand of Batis lenses

There is no official way to know how popular the Sony E-mount system is in all countries. It would certainly be interesting to know how sales are in Europe, Asia and US. All I do to check the current “popularity” of cameras is to visit the Amazon sales rankings. And you can notice some differences between countries:
Amazon USA (Click here) shows that DSLR cameras are still the big sellers although Sony is doing quite fine with their A6000 and A7sII cameras.
Amazon Germany (Click here) shows a more homogeneous ranking were both Sony mirrrorless and Nikon/Canon DSLR seem to sell equally fine.

But really that’s not e scientific metric to measure success. Maybe the next Sony financial report will give us some more detailed clue about the recent A7rII and A7sII sales.

Back to Zeiss: What is the next Batis lens you would like to get from Zeiss???

Dennis:The exhibit is on view at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts where I was selected artist of the year.  The exhibit is part of a larger body of work entitled “Age Specific” and can be viewed on my website www.dennismarsico.com. The exhibit includes 24 large format prints (36×44 inches) and a 30 minute black and white video projected at 9×16 feet.  The video interacts with still photos within the gallery. Of interest to your forum is it was all shoot with the Sony RX-1.  Even with its quirks I find this camera to be outstanding in the way it renders people in space.  For other projects I use the Ar7 and now the A7Rii, but with all their MP and lens choices they lack the spontaneity of the RX-1.
