What you may have missed: Canon copied the RX100 :)

The last couple of years Canon proved tho have a very conservative approach on the digital camera market. And the best they can do now is to copy the best ideas :)

Latest example is their newly announced RX100 clone, the Canon G7x (specs here at Amazon). The Canon is cheaper but it doesn’t come with a built-in EVF (that alone makes up for most of the price difference). A good point for the Canon is that it has a wider zoom range (24-100mm). Well at least we have some competition and maybe Sony will lower the price of the RX100m3.

New Zeiss 16-35mm RAW image samples (and still selling well in US).

Zeiss_16-35mm

The Zeiss 16-35mm is still leading the order ranking at Amazon US (full list here).

VeryBigLobo is so kind to share the first RAW file 16-35mm samples freely for download. He also made a quick comparison with the A-mount 16-35mm and says the A-mount lens performed worse and has more smearing on corners. But take such conclusion with a grain of salt. You need proper time and location to make a fair comparison.

Cameras.reviewed shared their hands-on thoughts about the lens and do write:

It’s made of metal, has a pleasant heft, and feels like it’s meant to be used—not just put on a shelf and admired.

Zeiss interview (and explains why they choose to begin with the 35mm and 50mm)

Share

BestMirrorlessCameraReviews posted a Zeiss interview. Here are some key info:

1) Asked about the risk of redundancy with the already existent FE 55mm and FE 35mm lenses Zeiss answered that the two new Loxia “simply target completely different customers, and it’s good to start with the core of the portfolio. It’s a new family, completely different not only due to the fact they are manual but also because the typical manual lens Zeiss look is different from anything else.

2) The best-selling Touit lens is the 12mm lens.

3) Zeiss believes E-mount has a bright future

4) About DSLR future: “It’s not only about the megapixels, but it’s also a tool. They like feeling they have a tool in their hands, and they like it bigger. That’s why this kind of camera will still live for a long time. When it comes to mirrorless, it’s probably a very future-oriented system.

5) About a possible digital Zeiss Ikon:  “I’m not sure if a digital rangefinder camera would have a big enough market.

Zeiss also made clear the de-clicking key comes for free with any Loxia lenses (it’s only the extra set that costs $28). BestMirrorlessCameraReviews also posted a set of image samples taken with the new Loxia.
