First images from the new Sony i1 smartphone Cyberhsot. Uses same RX100MII Exmor R sensor tech!

Share

Xperiablog (found via Thenewcamera) posted what they claim to be a real image of the new Sony i1 smartphone. The i1 will be the first smartphone that can shoot pictures as good as Sony Cybershot compact cameras. Sadly Xperiablog doens’t have an image of the back of the camera to see the lens.

But I have a good news too:
One of my sources sent me the specs of the camera (Thanks a lot!). He says the i1 phone (Honami) will have a selectable ISO range from 50-12,800 and it uses Super Steady Shot image stabilisation (2-3 stops). It also has an f/2.0 28mm equivalent lens. The sensor is a 20MP 2/3″ BSI Exmor R one using the same process as as the RX100mkII for superior low light performance. The phone will also have manual controls for shutter speed and some level of manual aperture control and it will have an all new Cyber-shot app which integrates with PlayMemories Online.

May the source can tell me when Sony will announce the i1? Thanks :)

P.S.: The sensor size is the same used by the Fuji X20. A comparison with the RX100-NIkon1 sensor size can be seen here at Cameraimagesensor.

I finally found someone shooting with the Hasselblad Lunar. It’s David Lynch!

Share

I finally found at least one person using the new and expensive Hasselblad Lunar. But it is not a rich Sheikh or Russian petrol-company leader. It’s famous filmmaker David Lynch (wikipedia bio)! You can see him using the camera at Rob Sheridan’s blog. One more thing, the resulting video is horrible (from a creative point of view): you can watch it on youtube.

I guess he was the on buying all Hasselblads that were for sale on Amazon last week :)

Thanks Dario Cotti for spotting this!

Amazon sends out “High demand” warnings for the RX100MII and RX1R cameras.

Share

Amazon just issued a note on both new RX cameras (RX100MII and RX1R). It says:

“Due to high demand we anticipate being unable to fulfill all customer orders with our first allocation. Product supply from Sony is very limited. Your place in line will be maintained, and we will not charge your credit card until we ship the product.”

To be honest I didn’t expect a “high demand” on the new RX1R.

A prove that shows you how the A77 and A65 successor were planned to be released in Summer.

Share

As I told you many times before Sony originally planed to release new APS-C SLT cameras in Summer. The image on top has been sent by a source to prove this. But as I told you two months ago the new Sony CEO canceled that release (or at least that is the info I got). Nevertheless you will have to wait only 6-8 months more to see the new APS-C A-mount cameras. Mirrorless, new EVF, new phase detection on sensor and super fast AF. That’s what you have to expect to see!

RX100MII sells very well! And new test roundup.

Share

According to Amazon overall camera Ranking (Click here) the preorders on the new RX100MII are very. Obvioulsy the RX1R is a niche product and cannot be foudn in the top 100. By the way, both cameras got a new shipping date. According to Amaozn the RX100MII (message) and the RX1R (message here) will now ship on July 27 (previoulsy it was July 14). And there is another message on the product page: “Visit amazon.com/camera on 7/1 at 10 a.m PST for an exclusive preview of these new Sony cameras. Submit your questions via Twitter with #Sonylive.

New RX1R and RX100MII tests:
1) Luminous Landscape erroneously writes “RX1N” instead of “RX1R”. According to them: “There is a difference. The Rx1N is sharper. But as with the Nikon 800e vs the 800, the difference is very small. In fact, my experience is that only in direct on-screen side-by-side comparisons at 100% magnification is that difference really noticeable.
2) Focus Numerique (Google translation here) tested the RX100MII and they say that up to ISO 400 there is no image quality gain over the RX100. Only at High ISO you see slightly better results but the difference is minimal.
3) The German Photoscala (Google translation here) tested both RX cameras. The say the RX100MII delivers an “almost” DSLR image quality. And the sharpness gain on the RX1R is negligible and not visible in real world shots.
4) And there is even a Greek review at Authority.gr (google translation here). It has been written by SAR reader Vangelis. Thanks!

(SR5) Two Hasselblad compacts and a new A-mount DSLR coming this year.

Share

Back at Photokina in September Hasselblad also showed this design based on a Sony A-mount camera. And Hasselblad posted two job offers (one and two) that discloses the timing for the camera release:

“You will be responsible for the worldwide sales of consumer-oriented line of Hasselblad products starting with a mirrorless Lunar and followed already this year with 2 compact cameras and a DSLR.”

and…

“We have set extremely high targets for 2013 with planned releases of at 3 new cameras and supporting camera accessories, and we need more talent to help us on this exciting journey.”

I hope the new A-mount camera will be more than just a luxurious version of the A99 or A77! P.S.: I guess Hasselblad will do an SLT and not a DSLR.

Note: The recent Hasselblad Lunar sales disappeared from the Amazon US site. And since then I haven’t found any Lunar for sale. Let me know if you find them! The only Lunar related product I found for sale is the [shoplink 19267 ebay]German prospekt[/shoplink] :)
