Sony Lens Designer Motoyuki Ohtake says: “We’ll make more lenses. Please wait for a while”.

Share

Sony Lens Designer Motoyuki Ohtake made this presentation in Malaysia where he explained the design of the new Alpha Lenses (like the Zeiss 50mm). He also told us “We’ll make more lenses. Please wait for a while” :)

If you watch the video at Minute 31:30 he gets asked about the future Sony G zoom for NEX. The answer is… :)

Personal Note: I like the honest and spontaneous being of Motoyuki Ohtake a lot! He is definitely not a marketing guy spreading void slogans. I want to see him more in future :)

UPDATE on Zeiss: Damn, Zeiss delayed the 50mm lens release and it is shipping in July only at Amazon (Click here), Adorama (Click here), BHphoto (Click here) and SonyStore USA (via AlphaCameraDeals). In Europe at Wex UK and Amazon DE.

Dave:I also wanted to share my work with you and your readers. My first camera was a Sony a100 bought in 2006. I moved onto the a700 soon after it became available and then the a77 after my a700 was stolen. So all of the photos on my website were shot using one of these three cameras. I shoot only in RAW and continue to be amazed by all the information I can pull out of these Sony sensors. http://www.davelongmedia.com/

David:I shot my second video job last week for a Lounge/Bar in Toronto with the a99, here’s the video: http://www.sin3rgy-creative.com/portfolio/skky-lounge-promo/ ‎
I shot the entire video in HD at 60p, it’s a huge advantage over all other FF DSLRs because they can’t do 1080p at 60p, only 720 at 60 frames/second. Because of that I was able to do very nice slow motion shots.

Jim:Dear Sony Alpha Rumors,
Some of your readers may be interested in my side-by-side test of the A77 and the RX-100 in a real-life situation. I’ve posted a lot of information about the A700 and the A77 already. Check out my blog posts about these, too. http://jimmartinphotoblog.blogspot.de/2013/03/testing-sony-rx100-at-zoo.html

Baron:Hi Andrea, how are you?
Please share this video with the world. We used the Sony SLT A99 to film the Royal Salute Polo Cup, Malaysia. Lenses used were Sony 70-300mm F/4.5-5.6 and Sony 24-70mm F/2.8 ZA. Here is the video: http://vimeo.com/62416804. The entire polo match was shot using the Sony 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G telephoto lens. This lens shines for use in outdoor sports, wildlife situations. I don’t recommend this lens for indoor use as it is a little slow (F4.5-5.6). Unless you are willing to compensate with a high ISO, the 70-300mm should be used for brightly lit situations. Shot at 60 frames per second with the A99, edited smoothly with Edius, no file formats issues. Perfect playback and editing of footage shot at 60 frames per second with the A99.

Luis:This one is a BTS for a photography workshop inspired in Mad Men. Again it’s all shoot with my Sony A77, a Sigma 30mm f1.4 and a Tamron 60mm f2.0.
https://vimeo.com/55425154. Then there’s this one, a day in the company of a friend of mine who’s a bike courier in my home town in Portugal. This one has some clips from a Canon MkII but most of the footage is from my Sony A77 and a RX100. https://vimeo.com/60198481

The Franken-NEX-7n :)

Share

The NEX-7n is due for a release (maybe in May?). Meantime SAR reader “lhar Gil” (website: www.clickerbug.com) tried to imagine the NEX-7n Frankencamera and sent me this message with picture: “I personally cannot wait for the nex-7n. aside from the sensor improvements, processing, etc., i am also particularly excited about the physical improvements the 7n will bring to the table namely, new hotshoe, mode dial and wifi..so i decided to do a mashup of the nex-6, nex-7, rx-1 and a99 to create a franken-nex-7n as i would have designed it if i were a sony engineer. what do you think about it? close enough? :)

I will take the chance to remind you some unconfirmed NEX-7n specs. And if some designer has some time to waste why not design and send me the new NEX Full Frame camera too? :)

– New 24 Megapixel APS-C sensor with 1/2 stop improvement and increased dynamic range
– 3, 8 Million dot EVF
– touchscreen
– Hybrid Contrast and Phase Detection AF
– Tri Navi design reviewed
– Focus Peaking will be much improved with choice of colors
– Wifi, but no GPS on board.
– Same size and form factor of the current NEX-7 but with a minor redesign

For Sources: Again, thanks to all sources for helping me out. I may ask them if they can tell me some more bits about the other new stuff like E-mount lenses and other cameras. Thanks :)

(SR3) NEX-7n now scheduled for a May release? With two layer OLED EVF!

Share

It seems like we can hope again! A good source told me that Sony is close to schedule the announcement of the NEX-7n for May (yep it’s still not 100% sure). He also explained me how the new 3.8 Million dot EVF works. And it’s a smart idea:

There are actually two OLED layers of 1.9 Million dot each. They are displace by 1 pixel and the EVF image projection works asynchronously. That allows to create supersharp images with no lag and other artifacts.

Let’s hope this time they will not delay the announcement!

The current NEX-7 is discounted in US and Europe: Search check links at [shopcountry 8454].
