We got three new NEX lenses from Sony. And it is time to repost the NEX lens roadmap to see what’s coming in 2013. There will be four new lenses but as you know the roadmap doesn’t include the three amazing Zeiss lenses, the 12mm f/2.8, 32mm f/1.8 and the 50mm f/2.8 macro. And we don’t have to forget that also Sigma, SLRmagic and probably other companies will release new lenses. 2013 may be the year where the NEX system becomes “mature”. Let’s see if Sony will also have the necessary resources to develop some Full Frame E-mount lenses for the [shoplink 14178]Sony NEX-VG900[/shoplink] and any future FF NEX!

RX100 review at CameraLabs. Magfilter back in Stock.

Share

CameraLabs (Click here) posted the final RX100 review and writes: “The RX100 is not only a great achievement, it’s a cracking advanced compact that only the most curmudgeonly of photographers would be reluctant to acknowledge as such. Once again Sony has shown it’s got what it takes to identify the core requirement of a particular market and come up with an innovative and exciting camera to meet those needs. Which only leaves me to make some brief comparisons with the competition.

The RX100 was announced back in June and since then it never went out of the top 20 of the most sold overall(!) digital camera popularity ranking at Amazon (Click here). We may can complain with Sony on many points but we can’t deny that the last three years Sony showed us an impressive cycle of innovations and I can’t wait to see what they have prepared for us for 2013!!!

One more RX100 related news. The super cool Magfilter is back in Stock at Amazon (Click here).

(UPDATED_2) Quesabesde: Sony A99 versus Nikon D600…

Share

Image courtesy: Quesabesde (UPDATE: wrong focus point on the A99 picture?)

Although Nikon dind’t officially unveil the sensor manufacturer it’s easy to guess that Sony manufactured the D600 sensor. And it’s likely based (or exactly the same) sensor used by the Sony A99.
Quesabesde (Translation here) analyzed the RAW image quality of the  two cameras and came it looks like the Nikon D600 is a bit sharper although the A99 has a more harmonic balance between noise and details (so they say). But…

UDPATE: ….Our smart SAR readers had the patience to analyze the full size images and noticed that the in focus point is different for the two cameras. Our reader Ramire proved it by showing the focus point of the bill here:

Now the A99 looks to be sharper than the Nikon D600 :) As you see, always be careful on these reviews and tests.

UPDATE_2: Quesabesde assured me that the camera showed that the focus point was right. So these may be a problem of the A99 with Sigma lens. They will redo the test now.

A particular Thanks goes to all the SAR readers finding out the problem! Bravo!

51% of the readers would buy a Full Frame mirrorless camera. Share the features you wish.

Share

Two weeks ago I asked SAR readers what kind of camera Sony should do as next. With an overwhelming 51% (and 4,055 Votes) most of you chose the Full Frame NEX alike mirrorless camera. On second place (30%) we had the  sub $2000 A95 FF SLT and on third place the NEX-7n (Full results can be seen here). As I told you a couple of times before Sony is indeed working on a FF NEX-7 alike camera (hope to get some more details soon).

But now we have to talk about the features of such a FF mirrorless camera. I would like to hear from you the exact specs that such a camera should have to be bought by you. In a few days I will read all your comments and start a new poll where SAR readers can vote the single features.

I am going to put here my short wish-list:
Zeiss Ikon alike design and quality material ([shoplink 14898 ebay]You can see them here on eBay[/shoplink])
Body price 2400-2600 Euro
E-mount with native FF E-mount designed lenses.
Built-in EVF
In Body stabilization > I know this is almost impossible to do but hey…it’s a wish-list! I have the right to dream :)
24 Megapixel sensor
DNG RAW
Weather sealed body
Shutter and ISO controls like the Fuji X-E1.

P.S: I am out for work now. Don’t worry if your comments will land on the moderation queue. I will allow them all as soon as I am back!
