Canon-Nikon guys….would you join Sony if they would make this?

Share

3D-Kraft.com commented yesterdays rumor about Sony’s Full Frame roadmap and showed an example of camera Sony should do. You may read it:

Take the base concept of the RX1, add the EVF of the A99, replace the fixed lens by an E-Mount and replace the 24 MP sensor by the AA-filterless 36 MP sensor currently produced for the D800E. Modify the sensor (and propably the cooling as well) so that it can be read out with 60p (for 1080p60). Start with at least one fullframe capable E-Mount lens (e.g. a modified Zeiss lens for Alpha) and the rest will be adapted as until there are enough other E-Mount FF lenses become available.
That will be the moment where I sell all my Nikon stuff.

SonyAlphaRumors is read by plenty of Nikon and Canon camera owners. My question for them (and also for Sony owners for course) is:

Will you buy this new Sony 35mm f/1.8 FE lens?

(SR5) Complete change on the Sony Full Frame roadmap!

Share

It doesn’t happen very often that I post SR5 ranked rumors on such long term Sony roadmaps. But I am now 99% sure of it! Sony completely changed the Full Frame roadmap! This means that also the rumored A1X SLT FF prototype camera with 36 MPX and no AA filter is not going to be released as it is. There will be..drastic(!) changes. Sony is now developing a unique and completely innovative FF range. The goal is to differentiate Sony FF cameras further from Canon and Nikon FF products. The next bunch of FF cameras is now being developed and Sony still hasn’t approved the final production of anyone of these cameras.

I am working on the details of the roadmap but as I told you there is no 100% approved camera yet. That’s why it’s quite difficult to give you reliable specs! All I am sure of is that, the next FF cameras will be quite different from a camera like the new [shoplink 14165]Sony A99[/shoplink].

UPDATE: As usual some people do misinterpret rumors that’s why I wanna say it clear and loudly: Both E and A mount systems will be kept well alive and improved!!! What’s changing is some technology used for the E and A mount. Actually, I think the new tech will bring even more “appeal” to both system! Exact the opposite of what some whiner wrote in the comments! Trust me, it’s a good news!

Stay tuned on SAR…follow the FF roadmap rumors that I will hopefully post the coming weeks! Subscribe the RSS feed (Click here) and Twitter (Click here) stream and the Facebook fan page (Click here)!

Reminder (SR = Sonyrumor):
SR1=probably fake rumor
SR2=rumor from unknown sources
SR3=50% chance it is correct
SR4=rumor from known sources
SR5=almost certainly correct!

New Sony RX1 reviews (Huff, Whatdigitalcamera, SLRclub) and in Stock status check.

Share

On the video on top Steve Huff talks about the camera of the year, the Sony RX1.

Steve Huff picked up the RX1 as camera of the year 2012. And also posted the second part of his ongoing RX1 review. Too bad he compares it with cameras having small APS-C and MFT sensors. Can’t wait to see a comparison with the $7,000 Leica M!

Whatdigitalcamera posted the full Sony RX1 review. The camera got an impressive score of 92%: “With a superb build, excellent detail retention at low and high sensitivities and competent metering and auto white balance systems on hand, it’s unquestionably one of the finest digital cameras we’ve seen yet.

SLRclub also posted the full RX1 review. I guess 99% of you will not be able to read Korean but you can still look at these nice pictures!

Pascal:Hi Andrea,quick word to let you know there is a brief preview of the RX-1 on Dear Susans

Olivier:I’ve setup a new tumblr with the most beautiful Sony RX1 photos & videos. Maybe you want to share this with your fine audience? http://rx1files.tumblr.com

Reminder: We told you last week that no new FF model form Sony will be announced within the next 8-10 months. It also means that we have to wait a bit before Sony will release an interchangeable FF mirrorless system. What I really like about the RX1 concept is the fact that the sensor-camera and lens have been designed to match perfectly. That (along the size) is what really intruiges me about this camera. But the price difference between the US and Europe really p… me off! :)

Click these links to check price and in Stock status: Amazon, Adorama, BHphoto, Wex UK ,Wex Germany, Sonystore DEUKFRITESNLSEFICH and more links at Alphacameradeals. Save $170 by simply purchasing the $7 cheap chinese metal hood ([shoplink 15410 ebay]there is one here on eBay[/shoplink]) instead of the original expensive Sony hood.

The RX1 accessories are shipping in Japan (on eBay via Slidoo).
