The worldwide semiconductor production crisis is affecting everyone:
Two days ago OM Digital announced the new OM-1 will ship two months later than expected (Note: The OM-1 is made of a lot of Sony parts according to this 43rumors article).
Today Sony Japan announced the new 16-35mm FE will start to ship out in Summer only
But there is hope! Counterpoint Research reports that “Semiconductor Shortage Likely to Ease Significantly in H2 2022 Despite China Lockdowns“. And in their text they write:
“Coupled with wafer production expansion and continuous supplier diversification, we have witnessed significant improvement in the component supply situation, at least in the first quarter,” observed Li. “The big risk factor moving forward is the lockdowns happening across China right now, especially in and around Shanghai. But if the government can manage the outbreak and help key ecosystem players turn the corner quickly, we believe the broader semiconductor shortage will ease around late Q3 or early Q4.”
If Counterpoint is…on point with their prediction we finally get back to normal by late 2022. Right in time for the A7rV, ZV and “surprise” camera launch!
