Question to a source named S.

Share

Sorry readers, I have a question to a source that only contacts me through the contact form. So I have to publish this post:

Dear source S, you claim the A7V sensor is new. I wanted to ask you something different: Have you noticed something “special” on the the Sony A7V ports? I know one “feature” and if you can mention it…it would be proof you are sharing correct info about the right prototype.  Thanks!

To readers: Will mention soon what this new “feature” is ;)

Exclusive Look: First Images of the Upcoming Sony A7V

Share

A source just shared thew first two leaked images of the new Sony A7V. From the image on top we learn:

From the image below it appears the camera has a 33MP sensor:

Take this with a grain of salt: according to the source, the camera was running on a very early software build installed on a prototype, full of bugs and errors and might show wrong data. The source only had a brief chance to handle the camera and couldn’t confirm specs. So at this stage we don’t know whether the A7V will:

  • Use the same A7IV sensor with tweaks to improve dynamic range, speed, and video quality
  • Feature a new 33MP partially stacked sensor
  • Or adopt a completely different resolution sensor, with the software still needing updates to fully match its performance

Let’s discuss the worse case scenario:
What Sony calls a “new” sensor is, in reality, just a slightly tweaked A7IV sensor. And if they believe they can launch a $3,000 camera in 2025 that still suffers from cropped 4K video, lacks a redesigned A1II–style body for better handling, and expect buyers to be impressed simply by the addition of a new AI chip—then they’re making a big mistake. Competitors like the Nikon ZR, Lumix S1 II, and Canon C50 have proven that the days of intentionally limiting the performance of a mid-level full-frame camera are over. Keep in mind: the A7V will likely stay on the market for the next four years. With these specs, it would already feel outdated from day one.

Let’s discuss the better scenario:
If the new Sony A7V comes with a 33MP partially stacked sensor (or any other next-gen sensor), delivers uncropped 4K, and adds the new AI chip, then it could easily be a real winner.

One more thing:
The source sent me also video and more images of the A7V. But he has not allowed me to post them because you see the surroundings, reflections on LCD and hands of people. Hopefully I can share some more images in the next days…and what’s more important the real final specs! So please keep in mind that while I am certain the leak is real, I am not certain about any specs yet!

Sony A7V confirmed info:

  • Announcement in October/November
  • 4 way articulating screen
  • No Sony A1II grip design
  • AI chip
  • dual SD-Type A slot

Sony A7V unconfirmed info:

  • 33MP sensor (unclear if “tweaked” or totally “new”)
  • price close to $3000

Sony Price Hike: A9 III & A7R V Jump $400 in the US!

Share

Good news first: The Sony A1II, A7VI, A6700 price remains unchanged – hurray! 🎉

Now the bad news: Almost every other Sony camera and lens just went up in price — with hikes of up to $400!

Selection of Sony Camera price increases:

And also almost all Sony lenses just went up in price — tough news for US customers. Sure, holiday discounts are coming, but they’ll probably only offset today’s price hikes rather than give you real savings.

Big thanks to the source who tipped us off early — helping our readers save some cash 😉

A new source just sent me the first images of the Sony A7V…waiting for permission to post!

Share

A new source just sent me images and a video of the new Sony A7V. He requested me to not post the entire images and now I asked me if I can share some “crops” of those images. I am awaiting his answer and if he agrees I will publish the images ASAP. All I can say for now is that indeed the A7V is very close to the look of the predecessor.

Stay tuned and subscribe the newsletter and Youtube channel. I will send you the newsletter and notify my YT live stream as soon as I can!

UPDATE: Got the permission to post TWO images. So I will move ahead and write the article.
