Imaging Resource claims the Sony A1 is “Best Overall Camera of the Year 2021”

Share

Imaging Resource selected the Sony A1 as best camera of the year:

All in all, we’ve had a hard time finding any faults with the Sony A1. It does so many things and does them all extremely well. It’s fast, it’s designed well, and it captures excellent high-quality photos and videos. It *is* very expensive, however. But for that price, you get one heck of a camera.

Laowa 35mm f/0.95 Argus FE lens review by SonyAlphablog: “very good and totally usable images at F0.95”

Share

Argus 35mm f/0,95 FE lens is now available for preorder at BHphoto (Click here) and at Venuslens.net (worldwide shipment).

SonyAlphablog tested the Laowa 35mm f/0.95 Argus FE lens and concluded:

The Laowa Argus 35mm F0.95 (1069 Euros) is the fastest 35mm for full frame cameras. Unlike some cheap F0.95 lenses, it provide very good and totally usable images at F0.95. Sharpness is good wide open , color rendition if very good, background blur and bokeh balls are excellent. As of F1.2 you get very good sharpness and excellent as of F1.4

The main weaknesses are the long min focusing distance (50cm) , the resistance to flare, CA , the high vignetting and corners sharpness requiring to close to F5.6 to get consistency on the entire field

Its only real competitor is the Sigma 35mm F2 DG DN Contemporary (1500 euros) that is a more a workhorse for heavy duty job providing also excellent background blur and bokeh but not at the level of the Laowa. The Sigma is however excellent as of F1.2 and has very good to excellent corners even wide open. It is more versatile and can be used from Weddings, to sports, to night photography without any issues.

Highly recommended

PNY Releases X-PRO 90 UHS-II Memory Cards

Share

The new PNY cards are now available for BHphoto, Amazon and Adorama.

Explora writes:

PNY has just announced the X-PRO 90 line of UHS-II SDXC memory cards, designed to keep pace with the increasing rigors of high-resolution still and video capture. Available in 64, 128, and 256GB capacities and harnessing the power of UHS-II to reach write speeds up to 280MB/s and read speeds up to 300MB/s, the X-PRO 90 is a solid card whether your job requires capturing bursts of raw stills or recording uninterrupted 8K video.

The UHS-II bus can be operated in two modes: Half Duplex or Full Duplex. For maximum speed, Half Duplex mode uses both rows of pins to transfer data in the same direction to reach the maximum speeds noted above. In Full Duplex mode, each row transfers data in the opposite direction so you can send and receive at the same time at half speed. The X-PRO 90 features a V90 speed class rating, which means its minimum read/write speeds never drop below 90MB/s for extended recording. Note that, to achieve the fastest speeds, you have to use a device that supports UHS-II.
