It’s now 100% confirmed — a major Sony announcement is on the way!

Share

I finally got confirmations form sources (Thanks!) that Sony is going to have a BIG announcement between mid November and early December. Don’t have the exact date yet! But my guess is that we will get this stuff:

  • Sony A7V
  • Sony 100-400mm GMII (?)

I hope to get the exact announcement date soon but in the meantime buckle up for a busy rumor time!

Sony A7V specs known so far (from trusted sources):

  • A7V has been registered in Indonesia with the code “WW824259”. The camera is manufactured in Thailand
  • Leaked image seems to suggest it has 33Mps sensor (we don’t know if it’s a tweaked A7IV sensor version or a new partially stacked)
  • new AI chip like the Sony A1II
  • Same Sony A7rV body design. This means same 4 way fully articulating screen and same controls
  • It does NOT have the Sony A1II/A9III grip design
  • price close to $3000
  • Announcement likely in November at earliest with shipment start in January/February

Weird rumors about a possible Sony A1III (or A1IIa)

Share

A SAR reader just sent me this:

take this with a grain of salt. I tried to purchase the Sony A1 ii from a reputable realtor in NYC and they are stating that they don’t stock the A1 ii anymore because the mark 3 is set to be released in a month or two… not sure I believe that

It’s clear now that there won’t be a new Sony A1 III anytime soon. However, if the latest information is accurate, we might soon see a Sony A1 IIa — essentially the current A1 II, but with an updated LCD panel. Sony has done this before, most recently with the release of the “new” Sony FX3a, which followed a similar minor-update strategy.
