Surprising news: Sony will stop all sales of consumer products such as TV, audio and cameras in Brazil
Sony Brazil will stop selling consumer products such as TV, audio and cameras in Brazil from end 2021. It’s a surprise to see Sony drop out of this big market. I guess brazilian will have to buy Sony products from US online stores.
Here is the official press release (google translated)
Dear,
We inform that the Sony Group decided to close its factory in Manaus at the end of March 2021 and interrupt, in mid-2021, sales of consumer products by Sony Brasil Ltda.—such as TV, audio and cameras—considering the recent environment and the expected business trends. The decision aims to strengthen the structure and sustainability of its businesses, in order to respond to rapid changes in the external environment.
We also inform you that Sony Brasil will continue to maintain its local operation to offer all consumer support for products under its commercial responsibility in accordance with applicable laws and its product warranty policy.
It is important to clarify that the other Sony group businesses in Brazil (Games, Professional Solutions, Music and Pictures Entertainment) will continue to maintain their strong presence in the local market.
With 48 years of history in Brazil and in this trajectory, we are grateful for the relationship of trust built over the whole time with our strong partnership.
We are available to schedule a meeting so that we can share and detail the next steps of this trajectory.
Confident of being able to count on your understanding, we thank you in advance for your always prompt attention and collaboration with Sony Brazil.
Kind regards,
Senior Operations Manager

Curiosity: Silver A7c clearly sells better than the Black version according to Amazon
The Sony A7c Silver kit version is the best selling option according to the latest Amazon US (see here) . It’s exactly the other way around if you looks at the BHphoto bestseller ranking.
My humble non required opinion is this: I would only get the silver version if the camera would have had a more “classic” look like the Olympus PEN-F:
I know I know…I am old….

RUMOR: New Sigma 105mm f/2.8 ART FE lens will be announced by end of of the month!
Image on top shows the current Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Canon EF
I have been told Sigma will announce at least one new E-mount lens around September 30. The lens will be the new Sigma 105mm f/2.8 ART FE. Still no word about the new 70-200mm f/2.8 FE. Like I told you before Sigma is struggling with the autofocus algorithm on this lens. But we may get some info about this on Sept 30.
Sony A7sIII Atomos support and new HEIF converter

1) New Atomos Ninja V firmware update ads full Sony A7sIII support (info here and download here).2) Sony has released an HEIF to TIFF converter app. This app is compatible with Windows 10 and Mac OS 10.15. The page asks for a serial number for an Alpha 7S III camera, but this is not actually necessary, you can enter any number in this field. Here is a screenshot of the interface.
Thanks David!
