(SR5) NEX-9 will be more expensive than the RX1. What is your opinion?

I am talking a lot with my trusted sources about the future Full Frame NEX camera. The camera could be named NEX-9 and the sensor is likely going to be a new Full Frame 24 MP sensor. And it will be mroe expensve than the current RX1! There are mainly two challenges Sony is facing during the development:

1) The technical  challenge:
Sony aims to create a High End Professional system that can match and if possible surpass the performance of PRO DSLR.
2) Marketing – price challenge:
The NEX-9 body only will be more expensive than the RX1. Price range should be in between $3,000 and $4,000. And lenses will be also very expensive!

Sony managers think that the point 1) has been solved with the work done by the engineer’s. What Sony managers are discussing now if there is a large enough market for the NEX-9. They see that Canon (6D) and Nikon (D600) released FF DSLR cameras for less than $2,000 and a NEX-9 may will have a hard time to justify their price compared to those. I have been expressly asked by my sources to ask you SonyAlphaRumors readers to share your opinions. And while I am absolutely not an expert I will do the first step by sharing mine:

1) First of all, Sony should not compare Apple and Oranges. A DSLR system is inherently different than a Mirrorless system. So stop comparing it with DSLR.

2) Market isn’t rational. Most of you know Henry Ford’s famous sentence: “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses“. So please don’t waste your time in analysis of the current market, because there isn’t a market to analyze yet :)

3) To take good pictures you just need a $100 compact camera. So if you ask me…”I don’t need the NEX-FF, nevertheless I want it and I will buy it“!I will buy it if it catch my emotions, if it’s kept simple and clean and if I can have a more “pure” photographic experience. Do we need a nice looking car? Nope, Do we need a nice looking Jacket no. But we are emotional animals not rational robots :)

4) In my eyes the A-mount FF system didn’t archive to become a serious challenger in the pro market. The E-mount Full Frame may be the first serious chance they have to get into the market. Make it backwards compatible with the current E-mount lenses (crop mode), make electronic adapters for Canon and Nikon lenses, create a system that is open and unique.

I could write for hours, but It’s time to read your opinion and probably you have better arguments than me!

But first of all a voting. Imagine Sony puts the right tech and the right features on the NEX-9. Imagine that there will be some nice lenses (including Zeiss) priced between $1,500 and $2,000…

The best new camera in 2019 is the...

(SR3) Zeiss to launch the three new primes along the new NEX-7n?

In about one month Sony will have a new product announcement date. They will release new camcorder and likely a new NEX-7n too. The rumored 85mm f/1.8 lens is scheduled for a release in the second half of the year.  So will there be no new lens along the NEX-7n announcement?
According to one source Zeiss may launch the three new prime lenses for E-mount in April! As you know these lenses are the  12mm f/2.8, 32mm f/1.8 and 50mm f/2.8 lens. All with full electronic aperture control and autofocus. The lenses cover the APS-C sensor only and will not cover the Full Frame sensor area of the future Full Frame NEX. But they will of course work on it in crop mode (like it is on the VG900).

Price for each lens will vary between $1000 and $1400.

One more thing: Tomorrow I will post an important post about the future Full Frame NEX system. I have been asked by different sources to ask you about the price and marketing strategy of the camera. And we want to hear your opinion on that.

(SR3) New 3,8 Million dots EVF for the NEX-7n?

I got this from a new source (Thank You). I was not able yet to confirm it with trusted sources so please take that SR3 ranked rumor with a grain of salt for now ok?

Anyway, the source seems to know that the new NEX-7n has a stunning new Electronic Viewfinder with 3.8 Million dot resolution. That’s almost 60% more resolution than you have on the current NEX-7. The source said it’s very “bright and sharp“.

Reminder: The NEX-7n is rumored to be announced in early April and it may uses a new 24 MP sensor with 1/3 of stop improvement.

Sony will keep developing the RX Full Frame line! How should the RX2 be?

sony-rx1

Exposure Magazine reports a sentence from Danu Sagoro, Product Marketing Manager, Digital Imaging Group, PT Sony Indonesia. He says: “Sony is now developing full-frame camera families consisting of full-frame Alpha, full-frame handycam and full-frame Cyber-shot families,

He clearly hinted that further new RX models will be developed and I am asking our nice SAR readers how a future RX2 should be….some ideas?

(SR5) New NEX-7n to be announced in April. With new 24 Megapixel sensor!

nex-7successor

Image of the current NEX-7 model. There will be no big changes on the NEX-7n camera shape.

Sony just announced the new A58, NEX-3n and the three A-mount lenses but as I told you you will only have to wait one month to see some more exiting new stuff! According to multiple sources (and by the way…Thank you all!) there will be a new announcement in early April. And that time we are certainly going to see the new “Sony NEX-7n“. The shape of the camera will not be that different from the current NEX-7. But I have been told Sony worked a lot to address and improve many if the limits of the current NEX-7 model. First of all it will have a new 24 Megapixel sensor with phase detection pixels on sensor. I repeat, it’s a new sensor and not the same of the current NEX-7. One source told me the new sensor delivers 1/3 of a stop better quality.

Also the internal electornic circuitry has been completely redesigned and I have been told there will be no more over heating issues (Hurray!). And one source just told me the EVF is amazing! I am currently contacting the trusted sources to confirm the specs I got about the camera. I will post them as soon as they confirm them.

For Sources: Again, thanks to all sources for helping me out. I may ask them if they can tell me some more bits about the other new stuff like E-mount lenses and other cameras. Thanks :)

Something else: There is a rumor about a new Full Frame Sony NXcam.

This is neither an A-mount nor an E-mount rumors but some of you might be happy to hear this anyway. So here is the news. One SAR source heard that a new “full frame professional NXCAM” will be announced for the upcoming NAB show in Las Vegas (April).

If some other sources has info about the upcoming camcorders (also E-mount camcorders) than feel free your info anonymously by using the contact form on the right sidebar. Thanks!
