A short update about the new Metabones Speed Booster adapter. There will be three of them for sale in February:
ALPA to NEX (check Alpa lenses here on eBay).
Canon EF to NEX
Contarex to NEX (check Contarex lenses here on eBay).
Contax C/Y to NEX
Nikon F to NEX
Leica R to NEX (check Leica R lenses here on eBay).

And again…it’s Alpa and not Alpha! I didn’t make a spelling error
Like you I am surprised they added support for the Alpa lenses!

5 months ago |This adapter is so intriguing. I’m looking forward to seeing some FF comparison photos.

5 months ago |No they dont support vintage ALPA lenses silly, its Sony ALPHA lenses…
Beachrider
5 months ago |Nope. They show a picture of a Swiss ALPA lens AND red text to indicate that this isn’t Sony Alpha. Nothing here for Alpha.

5 months ago |“To clear up any potential confusion, this is NOT Sony Alpha, but Alpa of Switzerland. You will most likely be using the Kern Macro Switar 50mm f/1.8 or f/1.9 apochromat lens on this adapter.”
WOW… my error. Thats insane? Why on earth support such a random lens brand. Apologies…

5 months ago |Metabones is very much committed to the ALPA mount (without much regard to the resulting profitability, I might say) because the Kern Macro Switar is arguably the best standard lens of all time!

5 months ago |Why would one be surprised with the Alpa adapter? There’s the market for all the guys who are doing movies with APS-C Nex camcoders like the fs-700
harv
5 months ago |Because they were sold in very low quantities? Hundreds, not thousands, due to the excessive price and very humble IQ, apart from optical quality.

5 months ago |I’d like to see something for the A-mount. Else than the LA-EAx adapters there aren’t any decent adapters for A to E-mount, let alone something like this.

5 months ago |Would be nice with stuff like this for us with alpha-cameras…

5 months ago |It all comes down to flange distance. Besides, there is already a fullframe alpha camera which means this adaptor is unnecessary!!
Anonymous
5 months ago |Er, so with your logic there are already FF Canon and Nikon cameras, yet they still made the adapters for those mounts…
John Maverick
5 months ago |What adaptors? All of these adaptors are long flange SLR mount lenses (FD, EF, F) etc to short-flange camera systems (E mount, X mount, micro4/3). Flange Focal distance is important to maintain infinity focus without corrective optics. If you employ corrective optics, then it’s a similar situation because you need the space to fit them between the lens and the sensor.

5 months ago |I wrote Metabones and asked about a Canon FD adapter for the NEX and this is the response:
“Hi
YES, already on our product road map, just wait
Thanks
Mark”
Austin
5 months ago |That’s great news! I have a lot of FD glass I would love to use with this adapter. Namely a 55mm f1.2
Paul
5 months ago |Canon FD would be awesome… Same with Minolta MD and Olympus OM!

5 months ago |If you purchase the EF to NEX speed booster then you can use any existing adapters on it you would normally use on an EOS camera. I.E., OM Zuiko to EOS, M42 to EOS, Nikon to EOS, Contax/Yashica (therefore Zeiss!) to EOS. So, while expensive, the EOS to NEX speed booster is a good idea. But I really would like to see a Minolta Rokkor to NEX speed booster. Should be around 399, same as the Leica to NEX speed booster since there are no electronics in that on either.

5 months ago |Yes I was thinking the same, early days yet but if all comes good in tests what camera to pick; fuji x-pro or Nex-7 or wait for the new models for both.
Rob Telford
5 months ago |Though that won’t work so well for FD…
Greg
4 months ago |I second your request for the Rokkor adapter! As cool as the Canon adapter is, I don’t currently use any Canon gear, but I do have a nice set of old Rokkors that I would love to use with one of these adapters.

5 months ago |is there any adapter to convert the A99 A-mount to EF mount or anything besides the Sony A-mount lenses?
obican
5 months ago |I’d love to have this in FD mount.

5 months ago |I do wonder why they’ve chosen this x0.71 projection. If it was x0.67 the Speed Booster would have completely blown away the NEX photo crop factor like x0.62 would have done with the video crop factor. But x0.71 is efforting simply odd calculation.

5 months ago |I’d like to see Zeiss make a “speed booster” optical reducer for full frame AF cameras! Ideally one that perfectly matches the Zeiss 80mm f/2.0 AF lens (for the medium format Contax 645 AF system) to a full frame SONY alpha camera like the a900 or a99. Now THAT would be revolutionary: getting the “look” of one of the best autofocusing pieces of medium format glass ever made on a digital camera. As far as I know, there aren’t even ANY medium format sensors that are big enough to give you the same “look” as medium format lenses once gave you on 6×4.5, 6×6, and 6×7 film, with respect to shallow depth of field anyways…

4 months ago |Sorry, but did I read correctly that C/Y Zeiss to NEX will be available in a speed booster? I have a ton of C/Y Zeiss glass I was using on 5Dmkii FF and would love to put on NEX with the same FOV and even faster aperture, that would be a dream!
