New NEX-7 image samples at Dpreview.
Today you have plenty of NEX-7 images to analyze! After Imaging Resource also Dpreview (Click here) posted a set of full size NEX-7 image samples. Those are all made with a pre-production camera and the 18-55mm kit lens. There are also sweep-panorama shots! At first glance I have to say the images up to ISO 1.600 do look very good with plenty of detail. A bit surprising if you do consider that we are talking about a 24 Megapixel camera combined with a “cheap” kit lens! I never shoot at 3.200+ ISO so I don’t care about the noise performance. And I cannot wait to see more image samples with the top quality lenses like the Zeiss 24mm f/1.8. Waiting…
P.S.: Amazon UK says the NEX-7 will be in Stock on November 7. And as usual the NEX-5n and NEX-7 are floating inside the top-20 position of Amazon rankings.

pliz news info about a77 okay
thank u

9 months ago |i was really surprised to see the cheapo lenses on the Nex 7 perform quite well.. i thought Sony might hand out some Zeiss glass for the reviewers.
atleast Sony choose some photographers this time that knew what they were doing and actually produced pictures that are not totally out of focus/motionblurred or whatever.. from all the A77 previews i`ve seen so many pics that were terribly executed, what good is it if reviewers are tech geeks that praise the cams but cant show any pic that couldnt have been done with a 80$ cheapo camera.
anyway, i know the Nex7 and A77 will be good performers, as my Nex5 is excellent and Sony unlikely made backsteps so i`m really looking forward to my new toys
Mike
9 months ago |Don’t expect the A77 to perform as well as the NEX7. For two reasons:
- SLT mirror slightly reduces image quality
- PDAF inaccuracy compared to CDAF
Gunnar
9 months ago |well i ordered both for the different tasks they are good at.. Nex7 i`ll use with manual primes from wide to 50mm(equaling 75mm) and the A77 for all above (birds, sports etc.) ..i really hope the A77 will be a great performer when it comes to bird in flight photography as with the Nex and manual focus this was a tedious task even though not impossible
Raghav
9 months ago |I don’t get this. Since you already ordered the NEX7, you could have simply got the LA-EA2 PDAF adapter & added it to your NEX7.
The only thing the A77 adds over the NEX7 is Ergonomics and PDAF. NEX7 already has the same sensor, image processor and EVF.

9 months ago |i could have gotten the LAEA2, true, but it has the PDAF of the A55 which is a bit lower specced then the A77´s ..also i dont know how the mirror adapter handles abuse in the wild, i guess the mirror will be very easily collecting particles. anyways i was actually thinking of just getting the A77 because i want a camera that is open for further journeys into all kinds of photography(studio, wildlife).. but finally i decided to get the Nex 7 as well as its just such a massive improvement on the Nex 5 and simply a nice everyday/walkaround kamera, which the A77 is not.. so they have very different roles to play

9 months ago |The A77 also has in-body stabilisation, a higher frame rate, a longer battery life a more articulated screen, a more powerful built-in flash…

9 months ago |Well, I agree with Gunnar about the OOF shots with the A77. Still wondering if this is caused by photographer(s) error or something wrong with the camera(s).
So waiting for some new A77 shots as well.

9 months ago |Of course you were still “surprised” despite being posted 100 of times that even a cheapo lens would do just better with more MP sensor.

9 months ago |i`ve seen those awesome shots
..this is why i complained abouts Sonys weird choices of photographers they invite to their promo events.. i saw event pics on flickr from Belgium(i think it was Sony France), man those pics were unbelievably bad. but Sony seems to like badvertisement

9 months ago |Stopped down to f/8 Sony’s SEL-1855 has never been a bad zoom lens, but with the new lens compensation feature it should perform comparatively nicely. That’s why I’m hoping for NEX-5/3 Firmware 05 with Lens Compensation…
Gunnar
9 months ago |yeah on my Nex 5 the SEL-1855 is leagues behind my 16mm and that says a lot .. i just dont like lens correction in software, all the warping is unlikely to introduce quality
NEXfive
9 months ago |Really? My SEL-16F28 seems more behind the SEL-1855 – especially both wide open. Only bought the Pancake to use it with the two converters, which are big fun. But you better give up resistance against lens correction and hope for Firmware 05, since most other companies are doing this even with expensive lenses and at least distortion & vignetting corrected inside the camera would be much more comfortable than doing this in post and you still can shoot RAW or switch correction off if you dislike it.
Gunnar
9 months ago |after all the user reviews i felt like my 16mm was accidently dropped and got better in the process
because i really cant complain about it too much.. but i´m no pixel peeper either i prefer nice bokeh over perfect sharpness anytime. i even still use my slrmagic from time to time, though its technicly the worst crap ever..
i dont mislike the lens correction, just the distortion correction part is not what i prefer, but i guess i´ll live with it when it comes for free
NEXfive
9 months ago |Two stops down but never less than f/11 the SEL-16F28 and the SEL-1855 both are fine lenses according to their prices, nevertheless my old manual lenses are performing better, while so far all SLR Magic lenses seemed very much overpriced to me, so I didn’t buy one. And what I’ve seen from the 5N’s Lens Correction especially the corrected distortion is quite an advantage. But so far no news about getting this on NEX-5/3…
Eric
9 months ago |Glad I went ahead and ordered the 18-55mm kit now. Looks fine to me for a $150 lens. Will give me something to use for times when I’m too lazy for manual focus

9 months ago |Very impressed. Considering that is what I’m considering replacing my D200 with, I’m looking very much forward to it.
Nawaf
9 months ago |Up to ISO 6400 is alright and I think that’s all I need as I never go higher. Actually with a prime ISO 1600-3200 will probably be the max unless you’re in a concert. Yes, as someone mentioned earlier now it looks better than the 7D (the noise pattern is better to look at).
I don’t shoot jpeg so I just can’t wait to see the RAW tests

9 months ago |Hm… I have an impression that this site should get renamed to Sony-NEX rumors
Cause last… like… 8 news were NEX-dedicated, and slowly more and more stuff goes towards NEX instead of Alpha reflex cameras. Pity. Not everyone are interested in tiny mirrorless cameras.
admin
9 months ago |No problem, it’s casual! It happens because the NEX-5n is available and the first NEX-7 images have been publsihed on different sites. Don’t worry, plenty of A77 news coming soon

Some rumors on A-mount lenses would be good, I hope Sony won’t end with a single lens released in entire year 2011. o_O That would be weird/odd/sad. Especially considering some earlier rumors about coming Zeiss lenses. (though I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony simply makes a big release along with full frame cameras).

9 months ago |I will be busy from Sept 16 to 25. Right after that date I will start to work on FF lens and camera rumors.

9 months ago |This site is just following the trend. The trend is to go mirrorless…
Sky_walker
9 months ago |Well, the trend is to buy compacts – if you check the sales you’ll find out majority of cameras sold and released are compacts. Yet lucky enough SAR doesn’t go that path.
Besides that – this trend is mostly about moving away from compacts, so it doesn’t really matter from A-mount perspective.

9 months ago |E-mount accounts for over 60% of Sony’s latest announcements – I’m afraid it is something that we are going to have to get used to.

Sony 50mm 1.8
Sony 55-210mm 4.5-6.3

9 months ago |what s the global opinion about this new sony lens Sony 16-50mm 2.8 is it a go or is it better to buy a 1000$ A lens + the a77 Body only?
Sky_walker
9 months ago |Too early to say really. Wait for few tests.
passer-by
9 months ago |Personally(sorry, not globally.. hahaha) if I have to buy a77, I will get it with the kit lens. Why? Because it is the only Sony lens that is weather sealed.
emopunk
9 months ago |Indeed, what’s the meaning of a weather sealed body when you don’t have a line of sealed lenses? Wake up Sony!!

9 months ago |Hello,
does anybody know if the A65/A77 have the peaking mode for manual focusing too?
serre
9 months ago |yes they have
matgay
9 months ago |wish they will also have an option to make everything in the evf in grayscale or black and white, except for the focus peaking outline areas will be in the selected colors. it will make it even faster to manual focus.
from video samples ive seen, viewfinder is in full color (not b&w), with focus peak areas highlighted in either color of red or yellow or so.
Raghav
9 months ago |The new samples really do look much better. At ISO6400, the noise pattern looks more pleasing than those from the A77.
It would be nice if someone could compare it to the D7000. If it is at par or better than that, it would be revolutionary indeed.

9 months ago |The only thing not mentioned much is new Alpha lenses. Will the telephoto partner for the 16-50 be dt ? I would like it to be so price and size can be kept down while performance up. my preference would be 60-250/f3.5 but anything along the lines of 50-200, 70-200, 70-300 at F4 or below will be fine but I need to know before I get my A77 So I know whether to buy some cheap alternative while I wait and what would be useful after. For now knowing when details will be known is as important as anything.
Sky_walker
9 months ago |There will be any telephoto partner for 16-50?
If so than I hope for resurrection of 70-200 f/4 or something alike, much cheaper than f/2.8 version, weather-sealed and SSM. That would be really good, like: REALLY.
Terryfried
9 months ago |If I had gone for the Canon7D I would have gone for the 70-200/f4L. Of all the large range of canon lenses this is the only one I think we are missing and hope/expect Sony will bring one out with new FF lenses. This is quite cheap and FF. So better can be done for a touch more money and APSC I suggested f3.5 as that is max 12fps Aperture. and a slight stretch of range to match the 16-50 say 66-233. Would put it halfway between 70-300/4 and 70-200/2.8. in affordable aps-s with moisture and dust proofing should be ideal lens.

Terryfried
9 months ago |70-200 f/4 ssm (weather-proof) ~800€ ?
Canon 70-200 f/4L is much cheaper and FF.
That’s why I say we can do better. I agree we should be looking for something similar at <800 euro. A FF version for A99 etc at 600euro and a improved aps-c version at <800 say at least 50-200/f3.5
Terryfried
9 months ago |actualy a aps-c wether sealed F4 version of 70-300G would be nice.

9 months ago |The dpreview pictures look much better than the imaging recource pictures! Did dpreview had a newer/better firmware??? There ven high ISO looks good, while you can see noise at ISO 100 at imaging review!
Harvey
9 months ago |You might never shoot at high ISO’s, but in the future you certainly will! When high ISO performance becomes as good as low ISO performance (and that moment will be there sooner than you think), sensitivity won’t be an issue anymore. Meaning that you can choose your aperture-shutter combination freely, even in low light. Imagine not having to buy expensive primes, not having to open your lens fully in the dark, and/or making high speed sportspictures in bad light conditions. Remember the time you had to push your films to get 1600 ISO and the results were crap due to excessive grain and/or contrast problems? That’s way in the past already!
