Sony NEX-5n first look and image samples. It is the most sold Sony camera and in Stock now at Amazon!
The video on top belongs to Steve Huff (Click here) that just posted a new Sony NEX-5n preview: “The one thing I noticed when I started shooting the 5N is the color is greatly improved. Also, higher ISO all the way up to 12800 is improved with this new sensor so Sony has done it yet again in regards to low light performance in a tiny body. The shutter sound has improved and we now get a solid and quick snick compared to the sloppy thunk of the NEX-5. The 5N seems like a great BANG FOR THE BUCK kind of camera.“. You can also see some image samples on his website. Another two website posted a set of image samples, Dpnow (Click here) and Fotopolis (Click here).
And as you see from the latest Amazon ranking (Click here to see them) the Sony NEX-5n is the best sold (or preordered) Sony camera (Position 13). Also because it is in Stock now (Click here)! The two NEX-7 kits (Click here to preorder) are on position 19 and 20.
Silver NEX-5n + 18-55mm lens is in Stock at Amazon (Click here)
Black NEX-5n + 18-55mm lens is in Stock at Amazon (Click here)
One more news: Today Samsung announced the NX200 which “should” compete against the Sony NEX-5n. A preview is available at Dpreview.

9 months ago |I was just reading about this new Samsung NX200.
How does it compare to the NEX stuff?

9 months ago |I want to know if the pancake lens will suffice for general photo and videos. Can anyone tell me how the pancake lens will perform in movie mode – ie. autofocus? Also, does the pancake lens generally not require a flash? Thanks!

9 months ago |If it only would come out with a proper fixed small size lens, a nice 35mm f1.8.. That would be a kit to buy on the fly!!

9 months ago |How can i trust this “expert” (terrible focusing, framing).
Eric
9 months ago |Terrible focus and and framing? It looks to me like he pulled the camera out of the box and snapped a few pics with it simply to let his readers know a NEX-5n review will be coming soon. This is not a review.
Steve Huff is an actual photographer, not a tech nerd. He doesn’t pay attention to DxO scores, and doesn’t shoot lab photos in a controlled environment. He reviews cameras by, gasp, actually using them as you would in real life. Crazy, I know. If you’re looking for photos aimed from a stationary camera on a tripod methodically measuring noise levels at every ISO then his review won’t be for you. I suggest moving on along to DPR or Photozone.de if that kind of precision is what you require. As for me, I’ll take a real world review over lab tests any day of the week.

9 months ago |And yet..it seems like it is on a tripod taking pictures at every ISO to measure noise levels..
Eric
9 months ago |Seeing as how the framing is different on the two pics he posted I would say not.

9 months ago |Snapped a few pics? Yet, took the time to put some text and music. Terrible focus is terrible focus. Nothing to see with DXO or whatever.

9 months ago |Your amazon link is for an amazon seller called the Shutterbug. I don’t think this means that the item is in stock at amazon. Probably this store doesn’t have it in stock either, they are just pre-selling. Either way, your headline is a bit misleading.
acolyte
9 months ago |Heheh. To clarify Sean’s point, if you click on the ’2 new’ link, you’ll see Amazon still have the item not released. Shutterbug claims it’s ‘In Stock’, but they may not, and buyers won’t realize that because it’s only 1 day off and if people may be notified as well

9 months ago |It’s too bad they don’t have a fast zoom like the 16-50 2.8 that you can get for the alpha series.
Or even like what emopunk said, a 35mm 1.8
They don’t even really exist even if you wanted one, right?
This makes the likelihood of me going with the a65 and the 16-50mm 2.8 increasing.
Still waiting to see some decent reviews and real life video samples on the a65 before I pull the trigger

9 months ago |I can’t find that this question has been answered anywhere. If you want to run old nikon or canon lenses with a cheap 30-50$ adapter on this NEX, would you be able to utilize the peaking AutoFocus? That would be a big deal if you could. Thanks.
ep
9 months ago |Yes, peaking works with Nex 5 and adapted manual focus lenses.
ageha
9 months ago |It has. Peaking AF? You won’t get AF but peaking (MF).
ScottD
9 months ago |Yes, peaking focus will work with any lens. Focus peaking is for manual focusing, the camera doesn’t care what lens is on. I don’t have a link, but that is how it is.

9 months ago |Samsung NX200 will be for 900$ while NEX5n for 700. Expect NX200 IQ esp. high ISO not as good as from NEX, but NX200 has better controls: more dedicated buttons, dial… there is some competition.

9 months ago |“Steve Huff says:
August 31, 2011 at 10:24 pm
The high ISO is the best I have seen. Period. Better than the 5DII, the D700, and easily bests the old NEX-5.”
ageha
9 months ago |Well, it’s a different sensor than last years 16.2MP sensor if you look closely at the specs.
emopunk
9 months ago |Hell, if they only would have put it in A77, with a huge buffer. What score would have been getting that cam on reviews site?
ageha
9 months ago |Maybe Sony releases a cheaper A65 with the NEX-5n sensor after Xmas.
emopunk
9 months ago |But then it won’t have the rugged body of the A77, which is what a lot of wildlife and action photographer really appreciate..
Renato M.
9 months ago |exactly! I’ve been asking myself the same thing! why would anybody want to buy the NEX-C3 if the kit cost only 50US$ less than the NEX-5n?? the difference in features are too brutal for only 50US$.
the NEX-C3 should be priced between 550-600.
acolyte
9 months ago |Because it comes in pink.
And C3 kit costs $600 in Sonystore, 5N $700.
Ha. I noticed they still sell NEX 3 and NEX 5. They too differ by $100.
Renato M.
9 months ago |but isn’t that with the 16mm pancake?
because in BH the 18-55mm kit is $650.
anyway, they should make the 18-55mm kit $600 and the 16mm kit $550, if possible $550 and $500 would be better because the E-PM1 cost $500 and I think that a possible NX1000 would be around that.
Renato M.
9 months ago |the NX series already have more useful lenses than the NEX.
NX has:
- compact zoom lens 20-50mm f/3.5-5.6
- 3 pancakes (16mm f/2.4, 20mm f/2.8, 30mm f/2)
- macro 60mm f/2.8
- portrait 85mm f/1.4
sony, what’s wrong with you??
david safier
9 months ago |Is the sensor the same in a580 and next 5n
Renato M.
9 months ago |I think the sensor is a tweaked version of the NEX-C3, because the detailed specs are a little bit different.
david safier
9 months ago |Is the sensor the same in a580 and nex 5n
ageha
9 months ago |I don’t think so, they even have a different resolution.
Captain
9 months ago |Guys
Sorry if I missed the info, but reviewing the current proposals on ebay, Sony, etc it seems that the NEX-5N comes without a flash in the box.
Do we have to buy it separately ? That would increase the price accordingly and would make no sense to add it as an optional accessory in my mind !
Thanks

Any clue ?
Tum
9 months ago |Bought my today at best buy brick and motar store, got a 4% kick back, so it’s not too bad, compare to California sales tax. The flash is in the box. It looks slimmer than the old N5. and the Touch screen is lovely, especially with the Auto tracking function, when u touch the object to be focus on the screen. Can’t wait until tomorrow to go out and take some pictures.
