POLL: SLR magic asks you what kind of wide angle lens for NEX you want!

SLR magic manager asked me if I could post a POLL for you. They want to know which kind of wide angle lens you would like them to make for your NEX camera. There are four options. It’s important to know that the price and size of the lens will increase with the wideness of the angle. That means that the 10mm f/2.0 lens will be bigger and cost more than the 12mm f/1.8. Price will be somewhere between 600-800 Euro. This would be completely new designed lenses for the NEX system!

You hope this is the...

Amazon US cancels your 50mm NEX lens orders. Watch out for your NEX-7 preorders.

[shoplink 8448][/shoplink] Watch out guys! Amazon is deleting your 50mm NEX lens preorders and they could do the same with your NEX-7 preorders!
This is the message from Amazon:
Due to a lack of availability from our suppliers, we will not be able to obtain the following item(s) from your order: Sony 50mm f/1.8 Telephoto Lens for Sony E Mount Nex Cameras
We’ve canceled the item(s) and apologize for the inconvenience. We must also apologize for the length of time it has taken us to reach this conclusion
.”

I suggest you to preorder the lens in other stores like Adorama (Click here) and BHphoto (Click here). I know they will NOT send you messages like that and keep your preorders. The only place where you find the lens right now is Amazon Japan (6-10 days).

What worries me is that you might lose your NEX-7 preorder too! I have been told the body only will be in shipped to USA in February while the kit version will ship in March. If you preordered the camera at Amazon I highly recommend you to make a new order at Adorama (Click here) , Bhphoto (Click here) or Sonystore (Click here) too!

Huge! New Metabones Canon to NEX adapter with electronic aperture control!

Now that is a small news that could turn out to be very important! I know of many Canon users that are tempted to join the NEX system. Canurus (Click here) announced a super Canon C-mount to E-mount adapter that will make their choice much easier :) This isn’t just one of those cheap manual only adapters you usually found [shoplink 11174 ebay]here on eBay[/shoplink]. It has electronic aperture control! And Canon lenses with Image Stabilization will also work on your NEX! More info:

  • True electronic integration of aperture diaphragm – let camera automatically choose aperture in P or S exposure modes, or dial in yourself on the camera body in A or M modes.
  • Powered by camera body. No external power source required.
  • Wide open button (opposite of depth-of-field preview function) makes manual focusing easy.

Estimate launch date for the adapter is January 21st!

P.S.: The Sony NEX-5n is back in Stock in limited quantities via third party reselelrs on Amazon (Click here).

Optical versus Electronic viewfinder. A new POLL!

Today Sony made it clear once again that electronic viewfinders are the future while Nikon stated they are committed to optical viewfinders. A year ago I asked if users would prefer Sony to make camera with optical viewfinder or if they bet on the new electronic viewfinder “philosophy” from Sony. And the results were more on less on par. But one year ago we only had that not so good viewfinder technology from the A55 as reference and today we have that super high quality OLED technology from the A77/NEX-7. I am curious to see if you changed your mind and if in your opinion Sony is betting on the right horse:

I will buy the...

Sony Interview: The future is mirrorless!

Imaging Resource (Click here) interviewed Mr. Mark Weir, Senior Manager of Technology and Marketing at Sony Electronics Inc.

– Sony clearly says that Optical Viewfinder DSRL are…dead: “It’s hard to imagine that 10 years from now, cameras will operate the way they did 60 years ago“. The future are mirrorless cameras!
– There is a tremendous demand for our NEX-5N and for the NEX-7: “and that cuts across the grain from what you would expect if the mirrorless segment was originally designed to attract that step-up point and shoot user who wasn’t ready for an SLR.”
– Thai flood and production status: “we’re looking forward to ramping up to meet the demand of our consumers in February and March.
– Sony is clearly committed to Full Frame even if the vast majority of the market is APS-CI. It’s a big challenge to create a big size Translucent Mirror: “so it’s not for the faint of heart, but we’ll see.

There is much more in the Interview but the general picture is easy to understand. Sony is working on a Fullframe SLT camera. But the main affords goes to the NEX system.
