Imaging Resource interviewed Yasuyuki Nagata and Takashi Kondo from Sony. Most of the talk is about the new Sony 100mm STF lens. But Imaging Resource also tried to squeeze out some info about the future Sony lens strategy. They didn’t get much:

1. About a new wide angle zoom: “There are a lot of professionals that [are asking for] a telephoto or wide-zoom [lens], but at this moment, maybe most of our professionals are basically [shooting] portraits.“
2. About future lens development: “I cannot comment about future development products, but honestly speaking the landscape photographer is increasing [in Sony’s customer base].“
3. APS-C people want a longer lens? “That’s why we’ve established the new 18-110mm f/4 lens to record movies.“

Summa Summarum: Wide angle lenses are high on the priority list because more and more landscape photographers are using Sony’s high-resolution cameras. While APS-C E-mount cameras need zooms and video optimized lenses.

“In March 2016, I headed to the Antarctic Peninsula, as part of an expedition with explorer Robert Swan. On our way to the 66th parallel south, our boat was navigating in silence through 30 metre (100 feet) high tabular icebergs that were once part of the Larsen Ice Shelf. Those mesmerising structures were displaying subzero icy corridors, forming a highly photogenic gargantuan maze. The scene was magnificent, but also incredibly scary. I took my camera, I had to show the world the impact that global warming has had. Equipped with a 70-200mm, I started to play with the magnificent landscape around me, trying to display the geometric magnificence of those structures. After envisioning the shot, I had to wait the right moment, and had only a few seconds to get it right.”

DC.watch posted the “estimated” lens pricing of the three new Voigtlander lenses:

MACRO APO-LANTHAR 65mm F2 Aspherical E-mount: It is scheduled to be released in 2017, and the target price is under 150,000 yen (under $1,300).

NOKTON 40mm F1.2 Aspherical E-mount: It aims to release this year under 150,000 yen (under $1,300).

NOKTON classic 35mm F1.4 E-mount: The assumed price range would be “VM mounted version and a little something extra”, and it will be less than 100,000 yen (under $900). It aims to be released in 2017.
