I got word that there is a major press event on August 29/30. We will get at least two new APS-C E-mount cameras. I have no infoo about lenses yet and no info about the third camera that is rumored to be announced in September/October.

I got this rumor from a first time source. So there is no way yet to tell if there is anything solid behind this rumor. But let’s hear what he has to say:

SONY will release a new 4K ENG Camera w/ Global Shutter and Video Codec at 2019-08-21

Not many here care about camcorders but having a Global Shutter sensor is quite a big deal! Also Sony is rumored to use a new Codec which might be used by the future A7sIII too.

You remember that in beginning of July I did post this rumor about the conflicting info I got about the new APS-C E-mount camera. You will see “Source 2” was spot on when he said a new High End Camera (not APS-C) and RX camera would be announced in July.

That very same source now told me this:

Sony will announce two new APS-C E-mount cameras in late August

And today a second source confirmed it:

Two APS-C E-mount cameras to be announced soon. The A6500 is EOL (End of life).

This rumors is ranked with SR4 which means there is a good 70% chance it’s correct.

So far I got no camera specs…but this is indeed a big surprise from Sony. Wouldn’t have expected to get two APS-C cameras at once!

The two APS-C cameras:

1) I expect the A6500 successor to be a sort of “cheaper” A9 version. I am not sure yet about the following info I got but someone told me the A6500 successor will more or less have the same A6500 design with a bigger grip to fit the new Sony NP-FZ100 battery.

2) I have no info about the second APS-C camera. My dream would be to finally get something that is very different. Not an A5100 successor but a more robust Fuji X-T3 alike camera. But rationally I know I will be disappointed :)

Also Sony China confirmed in this interview that a new A7s camera is in development. Sony already did say in the past that the A7sIII “will exceed expectations” their customers with features that are unexpected…

If what I am receiving is true this fall we should finally have the new A7sIII in our hands. And the main reason of the delays seems to be the fact that the A7sIII will use a new Sony codec which is still in final testing.

Exactly a year ago Nikon, Canon and Panasonic launched their first Full Frame Mirrorless cameras to compete with Sony. It was weird that Sony did not react to those announcements immediately. No new products at Photokina and no new FF E-mount camera for a whole year until the recently announced A7rIV.

Well, a year after Sony is finally ready to launch a total of three new E-mount cameras in August/September!

Nokishita reports

Sony has new product pages that are currently “locked” for three models of interchangeable lens cameras, it seems that there is a possibility that all three models are interchangeable lenses cameras.

Our sources told us that Sony will have a first BIG press event the last week of August. With two new cameras to be unveiled to the press. I also heard about another announcement in September/October.

It’s unclear yet what Sony could announce. But hot candidates are the A6700, A7sIII and A9II…unless Sony wants to surprise us like they did with the A7rIV launch….in that case…what could it be?

Three Sony cameras are registered in Asia (via Nokishita)

I now have been told by a reliable source that Sony will announce TWO new camera during the last week of August! The source has been spot on with release times in the past so I am confident this rumor will be correct.

The source did not unveil info about what will be announced but told me that at least one of the two is not entirely “expected” by SAR readers :)

It’s unclear what these cameras will be but they will NOT be the A7sIII and NOT the A9II.

This will be the fifth Sony announcement this summer. An unusual pace for Sony. And from what I heard after that late August announcement there will be more coming in September/October!

Today Sony registered a new camera with the code “WW942051” in Asia. We can pretty safely say this is a new High End E-mount camera because the camera features the same 5.8GHz Wifi first introduced with the A7rIV. So this camera must be one of these three:

• Sony A7sIII
• Sony A9II
• Sony A6700

My very personal bet goes on the A6700. But that’s just my pure speculation.

Sony now has a total of three new cameras that will be announced in August/September. Two of them should be entry level cameras (could be RX or/and A5100 successor) and a High End camera:

1) A new low-mid level camera with 2.4GHz WiFi (code WW594724)
2) A new low-mid level camera with 2.4GHz WiFi (code WW642826)
3) New High End camera with 5.8GHz Wifi first introduced with the A7rIV (code WW942051).

There is an exciting time ahead and I am already receiving first info about a new announcement in August! Stay tuned folks!
