Sony has a press conference on August 30 to announce new XPERIA phones…with the stunning 48MP Quad Bayer array?

On August 30 Sony will announce their new XPeria phones. While this is not a news directly related to the Alpha system it will be interesting to see if those new phones will use the new Sony 48 megapixel sensor. GSMarena spotted some hints that indeed that will be the case!

What’s really intriguing about that sensor is that it has a “Qaud Bayer array”. You can switch to 12 megapixel when you need the clean High ISO performance and you can switch back to the full 4(MP resolution when you need to get detailed images. I can seee this feature being implemented on a future Alpha cameras. Imagine having a sort of A9R camera that could give you 96 Megapixel resolution and if needed the High ISO performance of a 24 megapixel camera. Would love to get that!

The full technical 48MP specs and presentation can be read here.

First real world image of the new Nikon FF mirrorless (and attempted size comparison with the Sony A7)

By mistake Nikon leaked these four images of their new Full Frame mirrorless. It shows the huge mount and the big grip of the new camera.

And this is a very rudimental and probably not 100% inaccurate comparison. But a reader sent me this based on the rumored Nikon 3mm larger mount diameter. Not that we learn much from this but the Nikon could (repeat could!) be slightly larger than the A7 series. Also it seems the Nikon has a LCD display on top.

UPDATE: Here are more full size images via MirrorlessRumors.com:

The new Nikon camera will be announced on August 23.

And here we got the first teaser images of the new Nikon Full Frame mirrorless camera…

At last Sony will get a serious competition from Nikon. These images do show the silhouette of the new Nikon Full Frame mirrorless system camera that will be announced in mid August. The camera has the EVF in the middle and a huge mount. I am sure it will not have that “tron” light when it’s out…LOL :)

As Nikon had plenty of time to develop this camera I expect the features to be on par with the Sony series. Also Nikon’s focus in that teaser seems to be on the low light capability of the system. Probably super fast glas will be announced along this camera.

(SR5) Nice series of primes on Sony’s lens roadmap

One of my best sources confirmed that Sony’s priority is to launch new high quality primes for the Full Frame E-mount. That’s their focus on the lens roadmap. The source didn’t tell me what these lenses are but from other sources we heard these lenses are in development:

24mm f/1.4 GM
135mm FE GM
500mm and 600mm f/5.6
200-600mm (zoom)

I am sure there is also some more lens on the roadmap. Do you have any wishlist?

Sony rumors recap: Sony A7sIII, A6700, 24mm GM, 200-600mm, 500mm and 600mm

Time to make a serious recap of the reliable rumors and news we got so far:

Note:
The recently registered camera code “WW213188” is for the new Sony RX100Va. This means no new Sony camera is expected to be announced within 2-5 weeks.

Sony A7sIII:
This is the next FF E-mount camera that will be announced this year. It will have 4k 60p recording while it probably has no internal 10 bit recording (at 4k60p). I think it’s highly likely the A7sIII will have the new 5.6 million dot EVF from Sony. With a refresh rate of 240fps this simply is the ideal match for this camera. But the new EVF mass production will start in November which would mean the A7sIII would be announced at Photokina (September) or at the New York photo show (October) at earliest.
As stated recently by a Sony manager the A7sIII will keep the As7II identity (which means low Megapixel sensor with High ISO performance).

Sony A6700:
My very best source a new high-end APS-C model is scheduled to be announced this year. I guess it will be called A6700. No specs have been shared yet but we can guess it will have some of the improvements of the new A7 series like the larger Z-battery.

24mm f/1.4 GM:
A trusted source told me this lens is coming as next from Sony. No info about the announcement date. I hope it’s coming in August-September.

200-600mm FE:
I heard the 200-600mm FE is on the Sony roadmap and that it should be announced some time after the 400mm FE availability.

500mm and 600mm f/4.0 FE:
Both lenses are being developed by Sony and one of these could be announced in late 2019 at earliest.

135mm FE:
Also this lens is on Sony’s roadmap. I am not 100% sure about the aperture but it should be f/1.8.

Sigma:
Sigma 50mm f/1.4 APS-C E-mount lens to be announced before Photokina

Samyang:
One more Samyang AF lens will be announced this year

That’s all for now!
