Some fun: Phase One camera with Sony logo

There is an image going around the web of this Phase One XF camera with a Sony logo. Don’t know who did this and why. It’s still a long time to go for April 1 jokes:)

Just funny speculation: Is Sony going to take over Phase One? For Sony it would make more sense to make a mirrorless MF than having to work with Phase One bulky camera system…

Just a speculation: What if Zenit is really going to launch an E-mount camera?

Back in April Zenit displayed this 50mm f/0.95 E-mount prototype lens. And I did post some image samples and hands-on review reports on SAR (Click here). But the past months we got no info about the possible release date of this lens.

But there is one major news posted via MR: Zenit announced they will launch a new Full Frame mirrorless system camera in 2018. On the forums I saw people speculating that Zenit might use Sony’s E-mount based on the fact they announced this 50mm E-mount lens back in April. I have no solid info on this but my best guess is that the Zenit will have a new kind of mount.

That said, I surely would like the idea to have a Zenit E-mount camera. I think there is a market for a well-built, manual focusing and low-cost FF camera. What do you think?

Panasonic firmware goes with 10-bit color with 400mbps ALL-Intra. What’s your answer Sony?

Panasonic announced the release of a major firmware update for the GH5. This one will add:

– 400mbps All-I 4K/UHD and 200mbps All-I FHD
– 72mbps LongGOP 10bit 4:2:0 HEVC
– HLG HDR + HLG View Assist
– HLG in 50/60p 10bit 4:2:2 over HDMI

No Sony camera in the GH5 price range can even come close to those specs. I do hope Sony future A7sIII (or A9s) camera will be able to at least match those specs. I know it’s harder for Sony to manage the processing and the overheating of a sensor that is twice as big as the Panasonic. But there is no way back. Panasonic did just show us the way to go.

(SR5) New RX camera is coming (and it might be announced today?)

Last week I told you that the next Sony camera will be an RX. I can now confirm via multiple sources that this is the case.  One of the sources sent me a message right now to tell me that this camera might be announced today at the IFA event in Berlin (1pm Berlin time livestream here on SAR).

UPDATE: RX0 announced!  The anonymous source who said this would be an RX10IV was wrong. The trusted sources saying this would be a camera in the RX100 price range were right.

This was the original text before the RX0 update:

One trusted source told me this:

Some RX was planned at least a year ago to be realised arround Oct. Pricing wise it would be RX100-RX10 level.

A new source told me this (UPDATE: Now debunked!):

It’s an upgrade to the RX10III with a wider focal length on the short end but same on the long end

Follow the Sony IFA keynote livestream on August 31 at 1pm Berlin time. Some FS5 news to be announced?

Sony UK just confirmed they will livestream the 31 August IFA press event at 1pm Berlin time. So far we do not expect any new E-mount camera to be announced on that day.  The next camera to be announced in September-October will be a new RX compact.

But there may be some FS5 camcorder related news. Dennis just tweeted this:
