On the web I found many comments and suggestions on how Sony should improve their E-mount strategy to not give up market shares to the soon to be launched new Nikon FF mirrorless system camera. I did create a POLL with the suggestion I read on the web. Of course some of these ideas are non-realistic or nonsense but this is what I found:

Note: We don’t know yet how the Nikon FF will be but Nikon CEO said it will be better than the competition (SAR article here).

7Artisans is showing this image of a new 50mm f/1.0 APS-C E-mount lens. It will be announced this summer (no pricing info).

The Chinese company is selling a long list of their E-mount manual focusing lenses on Amazon.com, Amazon.de, Amazon.co.uk, and [shoplink 60402 ebay]eBay[/shoplink].

Sigma CEO Kazuto Yamaki confirmed the dual E-mount strategy (minute 9.26):

1. They will keep developing APS-C E-mount lenses
2. They are working on new Full Frame E-mount lenses

Reminder What we know so far from Sigma’s FE plan:

• Sigma is preparing the launch of two new lenses
• The first lens is rumored to be a 35mm f/1.4 (or f/1.2) FE autofocus lens. The size will be somewhere in between the current Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 and the Zeiss 35mm f/2.8
• The second Sigma FE lens could be a zoom lens
• Rumored release period for the first lens is Q4 2017

Sony has registered two new cameras:

1. One camera has the code “WW620081”. That camera got already registered two months ago. The “WW6” code is usually used for RX cameras
2. The second code is “WW173777”. That kind of code is used for compact fixed lens cameras (non-RX)

Usually it takes 2-3 months after registration to see the cameras officially announced. None of the two codes above should be for a new E-mount camera. The next E-mount camera is likely to be introduces much later (late 2017 or early 2018) and it should be the new A7III (24MP, 4K).

A trusted source “heard” about a small delay of the first Sigma FE lenses

Sigma FE lenses probably will be delayed (not announced in summer but still this year)

So we can expect the announcement to happen in Q4 instead of Q3. The rumor is from a trusted source but he is yet not 100% sure this “rumor” will be confirmed.

Nikon CEO Kazuo Ushida confirmed at Newswitch.jp that they are working on a new professional mirrorless camera system. In his words this will be a “Nikon-rashii” camera which means it will be unique and different from other companies in terms of performance. It’s still unclear when such a camera will be launched.

I find it hard to believe Nikon will find a way to beat Sony/Fuji’s camera performance at their first shot. But it’s good news if Sony will finally get some real pressure from Nikon.

This is the second rumor I have to debunk this week.

1. After other rumor sites reported an A5 teaser I had to debunk it by sharing the source of the designer who made it (Note: On those rumor sites this story has still not be marked as debunked)
2. Today another so-called rumor site who NEVER had one single own rumor correctly posted on their site shared a rumor about a new 36MP ASP-C sensor for the A6700 or RX100 camera series. That’s a completely made up and 100% fake rumor for sure.

Both rumor came from the same source on Weibo who is known to share fantasies. So if the rumor is solely based on that particular source it’s not even a rumor :) UPDATE: And just to be clear:

We got similar 36MP sensor rumors from unreliable sources in the past (and they were posted with low ranking value). In time we debunked those rumors too. I have no issues with low ranked rumors from uncertain sources being wrong (although it’s always a pain in the ass for me anyway). Making rumors is not an exact science as you know well. But taking 100% verified false sources like the one Weibo guy is not to be compared with a low ranked rumor. There is a difference posting something you are uncertain about and posting about something you know it’s from a false source.

As we are not perfect expect me always to make some mistakes. And I will always try to improve. But for me it’s still important to remind you that we are also the only one having posted plentiful of correct rumors like these from the last 6 months:

Thanks to readers and even competition sites for the critics. I read them, sometimes they make me sad and upset but I always try to learn from it. And thanks to the sources who in the last eight months made me definitely make a big step forward in the rumor quality.
