Now, this I just got from a completely anonymous source. So please don’t get over excited as he might be completely off:

The new Pro camera will be introduced Wednesday, April 19 before noon EST.
This new camera according to my source will bring Sony to the Pro table and challenge both Canon and Nikon. It is very fast and what pro sports photographers have been waiting for.

God do I wish he is right! But to keep your expectations low just imagine they will announce a new 50mm FE pinhole lens ok? :)

Press: Sony celebrates triple success at 2017 TIPA Awards

Press text:

The highly renowned Technical Image Press Association has recognised Sony’s innovation and performance in the digital imaging industry with three TIPA awards.

BEST DSLR PROFESSIONAL: α99 II ([shopcountry 57412]).

The α99 Mark II has a 42.4MP Exmor R CMOS sensor inside its magnesium alloy body and an enhanced buffer that can handle up to 12 frames per second shooting with AF/AE tracking. ISO range is 100-25,600 expandable to 102,400. The hybrid phase-detection AF system combines a 79-point dedicated sensor with 399-point focal plane sensor, resulting in a 79 hybrid cross AF point array that delivers very impressive high-speed and high accuracy tracking focus. The α99 II records 4K video with full pixel readout (with no pixel binning) in the XAVC S format at 100 Mbps. It also incorporates 5-axis image stabilisation (a 4.5 stop advantage).

BEST EXPERT COMPACT CAMERA: DSC-RX100V ([shopcountry 57413]).

The RX100 V has a 20MP 1-inch Exmor RS CMOS sensor and a high resolution OLED EVF as well as a 3.0 inch TFT LCD, all within a camera that fits easily in the pocket. ISO sensitivity ranges from 125 to 12,800 and to 25,600 by overlay burst shooting. Fast Hybrid AF combines 315 focal plane phase detection points with contrast detection AF to yield a very fast AF acquisition speed of 0.05 seconds. Continuous 24fps shooting, with AF/AE tracking, is made possible by the new font end LSI. The (equivalent) 24-70mm f/1.8-2.8 ZEISS® Vario-Sonnar T* zoom lens can focus as close as 0.17 ft (5cm) at the wide focal length setting. The camera offers numerous video modes and frames, including 4K, as well as built-in SteadyShot™ image stabilisation.

BEST ACTIONCAM: FDR-X3000R ([shopcountry 57414]).

The 4K-capable FDR-X3000R is built around an 8.2MP Exmor R CMOS sensor and features a ZEISS®Tessar f/2.8 lens with wide angle. The compact unit has a unique Balanced Optical SteadyShot™ image stabilisation system that works even in 4K and high speed recording modes. The FDR-X3000R offers built-in Wi-Fi, with a new version of Live-View Remote control, GPS and a stereo microphone, plus a stereo mini jack. Numerous shooting effects include time-lapse capture, high-speed motion, and 120 fps shooting rate. As is, the camera is splash proof, but a housing is available to shoot at depths of up to 60 metres (197 ft).

Like I told you yesterday on April 23 at 3pm Las Vegas time we will be able to watch the live stream of the Sony NAB show press event.

But some rumors I got the last 24hours said it may be possible that Sony will already announce “something” today at around 3-4pm London time. But please note that these are not coming through our trusted sources so don’t hold me accountable on that yet. I hope to be able to confirm or deny this soon.

Note: I don’t know yet if the Sony Stolen Truck will have any influence and possibly delay some of the planned product announcements…

An update on the stolen Sony Truck story…

Image on top doesn’t show the actual stolen Sony truck

As you probably all know by now the Sony Truck was stolen on the way to Las Vegas (NAB show).  Sony did not release any official note and we don’t know if this will have any kind of impact on the product announcements.

An anonymous source just sent me this:

I work for contracting company. I can confirm that the equipment was stolen. Sony is going to replace it on time. Wont admit publicly to the theft to avoid distraction from new product launch

Let’s hope the info is right and Sony will manage to show us their new gear on Sunday (press conference at 3pm Las Vegas time).

Noooo! Sony NAB gear stolen on the way to Las Vegas!

Image on top doesn’t show the actual stolen Sony truck

There are now rumors on the web saying that the truck carrying all Sony NAB gear got stolen on the way to Las Vegas! The news still got not officially confirmed by Sony. And we don’t know yet what kind of effect this will have on the Sony announcement. But we might see some [shoplink 57385 ebay]A9[/shoplink] or [shoplink 57384 ebay]A7sIII[/shoplink] on auction on eBay soon :)

UPDATE: I just got that info:

I can confirm the truck was indeed stolen. I’m from a partner company that’s helping scramble in getting replacement supplies. I found out this morning and actually googled to see if there was any news reports online yet. Our products were also on the truck.

I will try to give you updates as soon as I can!

Curiosity note: Seven years ago two Sony trucks were stolen in Canada!

(Sony A7sIII, Sony A9, RX) What we know and what we don’t know…

On April 20 (London) or April 23 (Las Vegas) or in June Sony could announce a new High End FF E-mount camera and a new RX camera. Here is the little we know and the lot we don’t know so far:

What we know for sure so far:

  1. Sony has a press conference on April 20 in London and April 23 at around 2pm Las Vegas time. There is also one more announcement in June.
  2. Sony registered two new cameras in Asia. Usually we have to wait a couple of months after registration before those get announced.

What we can hope to get on these next three Sony press events:

  1. New Sony camcorders (NAB)
  2. Maybe a new Sony High Speed E-mount camera (A7sIII?, A9?). If not on April 20-23 that camera might be announced in May/June.
  3. Maybe a new RX camera (but that is more likely to be announced some time after the NAB show in May/June).
  4. Maybe the new 16-35mm f/2.8 GM and 100-400mm FE G lens

A source who claims to have seen the new A7/A9 camera told me this:

  1. Sony says this is the camera they made for PRO photographers
  2. The camera he saw pretty much looked like the current A7 series
  3. It’s fast and has a low resolution sensor

So to sum up the possible new Sony High End E-mount camera specs:

  1. Sony will announce a new High End E-mount camera (sometimes between that now and June)
  2. It has a low resolution sensor (could be around 20MP but it’s unconfirmed yet)
  3. It has the fastest autofocus system of all Sony E-mount cameras yet
  4. It records at around 20fps
  5. Records 4K (probably at 60fps)
  6. It’s a tiny bit larger than the A7 series but pretty much keeps the same size. It has not an integrated battery grip like the Canon 1D series
  7. Dual SD card support
  8. unlimited RAW recording (if supported by the right cards)
  9. It uses the new A6500 menu system
  10. Touchscreen
  11. It has a joystick on the back
  12. Bit longer battery life and small ergonomic improvements on the body
  13. Name is unknown yet but it might be a Sony A7sIII (but really, I have no confirmation on that yet)
  14. Price is high (probably between $4,000 and $5,000) and current A7 cameras will not be replaced that model (they will keep selling at the current pice tag)

Very wild rumors:

  1. There has been speculation and wild rumors that there might be two new FF E-mount cameras the coming months: A9 and A7sIII.

Looking further:
This High End camera will be available with high-resolution sensor (and lower speed) sometimes later (probably on market by early 2018).

As you see there is little we know so far. I hope this week Sony will not disappoint us and announce something E-mount and/or RX related. If not than we will have to wait two more months :(
