(SR5) First images of the new Tamron 18-400mm lens

A trusted source just sent me these images of a new Tamron 18-400mm f/3.5-6.3 lens. The source did not tell me if that lens will be available in native A-mount version too. But usually Tamron does offer these lenses for all kind of DSLR systems.

And this is a Leaked image of the new Milvus 35mm f/1.4 via MirrorlessRumors. It will “only” come for Nikon F and Canon EF mount but E-mount shooters can use the lens via adapter:

“Sony Support” retracts statement that it will add S-LOG on the A9

Sony retracted the statement they left on BHphoto saying that they will add S-LOG on the A9. Pity if true that they will not add S-LOG.

But the hope is still alive as just recently Sony stated at CameraJabber:

Sony would listen to market advice and assess the need for additional touch-control along with ‘other function’ enhancements.

In plain language…if we keep annoying Sony with out request they should add S-LOG and Picture Profiles on the A9 :)

P.S.: Patrick Murphy Racey posted a set of new A9 image samples shot in Oregon. And there is a new A9 video functions test by Mariano Friginal.

Batis 135mm f/2.8 vs the [shoplink 48572]Zeiss 135mm f/1.8 A-mount[/shoplink] (CameraSize)

While we have to wait til fall to get the new A7III Summer is still going to be exciting with the launch of the new 135mm and 400mm FE lenses. I still have no 100% confirmation on the aperture but the 135mm is likely to get a f/1.8 aperture while the 400mm should be f/2.8.

I will definitely buy the new 135mm FE (I loved the A-mount Zeiss version). So the question for you is:

Which lens are you going to buy?

(SR5) A7III specs confirmed and it has the A9 joystick too

Good news folks. A second trusted source (Thanks!) confirmed the validity of the rumor we posted two days ago. The A7III is coming this fall and he adds:

a7mk3 is on the way. 24mpx with improved af system, touch screen, joystick (like a9) and 4k recording. Its on the roadmap after 135mm and 400mm (this two lens are very likely to be announced together).

So to sum up these are the A7III specs:

– New 24 MP sensor
– First source said it hs “Same Sony A9 autofocus system without the 20fps feature”. Second source said it’s “improved AF system”. Hope they mean both the same thing.
– Touch Screen
– Joystick control
– 4K recording
– Launch this fall

A few speculations about the A7III:
We don’t know yet if the A7III 24MP sensor is the same as the A9. My guess is that it’s not also because we know it doesn’t have the 20fps electronic shutter feature. In some way this could be good news as the sensor would be trimmed for Image Quality instead of Speed.
Also we don’t know if the A7III will have the same A9 body. My guess is that it will have the bigger battery but that it will not have the dual SD slot.

What about the A7rIII and A7sIII?
I have no info about the announcement time but it sounds more and more likely those two cameras will be announced in 2018. The A7rIII will have a new 60+ MP sensor. I still have no info about the A7sIII.

What about the new FE lenses?
The new 135mm FE and 400mm FE lenses are likely to be announced this summer. I also heard about a third new FE lens coming this fall.

(SR4) Sony A7III to be announced this fall has 24MP sensor and same A9 autofocus system!

a7ii
Image above shows the A7II with Gariz case

A trusted source who gave me as first the 100mm STF lens specs just did send me the first A7III specs:

1) First of all he confirmed what other sources already told me: The camera will be announced this fall (sometimes between October-November).
2) He also confirmed the A7III has a new 24MP sensor (seems like it has the same Sony A9 sensor)
3) It also has the exact same Sony A9 autofocus system
4) But unlike the Sony A9 the A7III has NOT the crazy fps rate

Overall this sounds like a “budget Sony A9” without the 20fps frame rate. It’s unclear if the A7III will have the same A9 body or stick to the current A7II body design

Note: The rumor is rated SR4 because it’s from a source who share correct info in the past. But we have to wait for other sources to confirm this. Moreover the camera will be announced in 4-5 months only so we have to see if Sony will change some specs in the meantime.

(SR4) First info on the A7rIII says it has around 60+ Megapixels. Will not be released for 3-4 months

Name for the new Sony High Megapixel camera is still unclear yet: A9r or A7rIII?

Back on March 8 we did post an A9 and A9r (or A7rIII) rumor from a reliable source. The A9 info he shared proved to be correct. This means his info about the A9r or A7rII shared BEFORE the A9 launch is correct too:

  • The camera under development seems to have 2 models. One is high-resolution model around 60-70MP, and the other is super high-performance AF, super high speed continuous shooting, and super high ISO sensitivity model. (SAR note: One is obviously the new A9 and one is the new A7rIII or A9r).
  • The first model to be released will be the low rez and super high-performance AF camera

Recently another trusted source confirmed he got similar info:

  1. The new A7rIII (or A9r) will have more Megapixels than the A7rII (probably around 60 MP)
  2. Will not be released soon (not within 3-4 months).

The only reason why I am yet not ready to rank this rumor SR5 is that because Sony might make some last-minute changes. I hope to get some more A9r or A7rIII info soon. In the meantime join us here:
Sony A7rIII group and Sony A7rIII page (I will change the group name to “A9r” if the camera will be named A9r)

Note: I updated this post with a correction on the release time and an upgrade from SR3 to SR4 (as I got one more info from a third source in the meantime).

Competition rumor: Fuji will buy Nikon shares to save them from troubles?

It’s no secret that Nikon is suffering big losses in the camera market. And unlike so many other companies Nikon depends very much from the camera business. Now here come the unexpected rumor posted by Fujirumors:

Japanese government is directly involved in finding a company that can help Nikon. Hatenablog.com says here that Fujifilm is one of the companies that could possibly “help” Nikon.

Previously there were some wild speculations that Sony could be involved too. But the Hatena report does not specifically mention Sony. Sony already once bought a stake into Olympus to help out their financial mess. I guess that the main goal of a Fuji-Nikon partnership would be the same as the one of the Sony-Olympus collaboration: Cost reduction…cost reductiond and again cost reduction.

UPDATE: The Story got written by Sentaku (June issue magazine) which is a highly reputable source in Japan. Already back in April Sentaku they wrote:

Companies from Taiwan, South Korea and China reportedly are considering acquiring Nikon. Experts say if its financial situation further deteriorates
