Venus Optics teases the launch of a new Full Frame E-mount lens

photokina_teaserbig

Venus Optics is known for making some excellent optics. So it’s great to hear they have one more new lens coming at Photokina! The lens is a “pure” E-mount lens which means it doesn’t come for any other mount and it’s designed for the FF E-mount cameras. I have no clue about the lens focal length yet…what’s your guess?

Their current FF Sony lenses are:
15mm f/4.0 macro at [shopcountry 50890]
12mm f/2.8 on Kickstarter (campagn just ended with a huge success)
105mm f/2.0 STF lens at [shopcountry 50891]
60mm f/2.8 macro at [shopcountry 50892]

New set of low ranked rumors (Sony A9-A9r, medium format, Olympus Zuiko FE, A99II)

SonyA9_side
The mirrorless DSLR styled Sony protoype (A9 is rumored ot have such a style)

Time for out roundup of rumors from completely unknown sources and therefore unlikely to be true. Rarely one of those gets true but I hope some of the info here turns out to be correct because it really sounds too good:

Sony Medium Format

“Sony will introduce a Camera utilizing the IMX161 Image sensor soon. This Sensor has 50 MPixel on an area of 44x33mm (Middle format). Details still are a bit fuzzy but will be revealed soon
So resolution and low light performance will be even better than on the A7R2″

Sony A9 A9r:

“The Sony A9r will not get a new 70+ FF sensor due the Kumamoto sensor production damage. There will be two new A9 cameras with bigger A7 alike body and new battery grip:
a9:
– 24 mp (new sensor)
– 400 AF points on the entire frame
– 14 fps
– ISO 50-204800
– Shutter speed: 30″-32000
– dual XQD slot
a9r:
– 42mp BSI
– 400 AF points on the entire frame
– 8 fps Buffer 40 RAW
– ISO: 50 – 102400
– Shutter speed: 30″-32000
– dual XQD slot
– weather sealed

There will be also a new A to E-mount adapter.  Price of both cameras will be around $5,000.”

Next generation Sony A7 (or A9?):

The current A7 range was made from existing internal parts ‘forced’ into a new form factor to see how the market reacted to that style of camera. Obviously Sony’s experiment was fruitful so the next range will be made to measure and designed from the ground up to work in such a style of camera

Sony A99II:

“Killer speed af, 36 mpix bsi chip, 4k, 5axis ibis, dual slot, dual 2core bionz x2 cpu’s, weather proof”

Olympus 35mm FE lens:

Olympus Zuiko 35mm lens f/2.0. It WILL be branded as Zuiko and not Sony or Sony/Zuiko.

My hope is that there is some truth behind the Olympus folks joining the E-mount system….

Sony Photokina press conference on September 19 at 15:00 Berlin time

photokina

Sony invited the press for a press conference on September 19 at 15:00 Berlin time. This is by no means a guarantee of a new product announcement. We have seen in the past that Sony prefers to announce the most exciting stuff on a separate “solo” event.

While I have no confirmations yet I believe the chances are high that Sony’s next E-mount cameras may be announced AFTER Photokina. Sometimes between October and November.

(SR5) First image of the Tokina “FIRIN” 20mm f/2.0 manual focusing FE lens!!!

CANON_27

Big surprise folks! This is the first image of the Tokina “FIRIN” 20mm f/2.0 manual focusing Full Frame E-mount lens. It will be announced right before the Photokina start. This is the first Tokina FE lens. The name “Firin” is quite strange but as long as the lens is good I don’t care :)

There is yet no info about the optical design and pricing. But seeing that this lens is that big I bet the performance is big too. After all Tokina made an impressive and high quality Tokina AT-X 14-20mm f/2 PRO DX zoom (Click here). So we can surely expect a high optical quality on this one too!

With the new entry of Rokinon AF lenses and the Tokina manual lenses the FF E-mount lens system you no longer have to sell your kidney to get some FE glass :)

Tamron patented an impressive 115mm f/1.4 lens (for Sony A-mount)

Tamron-115mm-Amount

Tamron is still seriously committed in making new A-mount lenses. Just a few days ago they launched the new 90mm f/2.8 SP Sony A-mount lens you can preorder for $649 at BHphoto (Click here).

And now they are on track to launch an even more impressive new lens. Egami spotted a new patent for a Tamron 115mm f/1.4 Full Frame lens! The only “similar” lenses in the Full Frame world are the new Nikon 105mm f/1.4 lens and the [shoplink 48572]Zeiss 135mm f/1.8 A-mount lens[/shoplink]

(SR2) Sony will adopt new RAW format for new High Resolution and High Dynamic sensor generation?

What we could see from Sony in 2015.

For sure Sony is going to bring a new generation of High Resolution sensors. And the question arises if there is a necessity of a new RAW format to handle the ever increasing amount of data. I don’t know if the following rumor from an anonymous source is correct. But this what it says:

“In order to take advantage of future image sensor dynamic range Sony will switch to a different raw format.
Current Sony cameras utilize like most digital cameras 14 bit for their raw format. Although delivering a huge advantage over the 8bit and compressed jpeg images this is not longer suitable for all future image sensors.
More and more image sensors, most noticeable in the current A7 lineup are ins some rare usage scenarios constricted.
Future image sensors featuring even higher intrinsic dynamic range and thus providing HDR like image quality in difficult lighting scenarios will require a change in raw file format.
Currently two format types are in discussion: A uncompressed 16 bit format or a compressed 21bit format”

Well, one thing is certain, many will have to buy new large and fast capacity flash cards, new computers and new hard disks to be able to work with future Sony cameras!

(SR2) First rumors about a possible Zeiss 60mm f/2.8 Batis lens…

[shoplink 48071]90mmlens[/shoplink]
The current [shoplink 48071]Sony 90mm FE[/shoplink] is the only macro lens in the FE lineup.

Trusted sources told us that Zeiss will launch both new Batis and Loxia lenses between September and October. And there will be definitely new telephoto lenses too.

Recently a completely new source shared some specs of another Batis lens I never heard of. He said:

Next Batis lens is 60mm f2.8 Macro. Release in september.

Liek I said this is not one of my usual Zeiss sources. Therefore I am not sure this is right yet. But I am wondering if SAR readers think such a lens would actually make sense….

Would you consider to buy a Zeiss Batis 60mm f/2.8 macro lens?
