(SR3) Sony rumored to announce a new 100mm f/2.8 STF FE autofocus lens this year!

Last week we reported about Sony lens designer Mr. Motoyuki Otake confirming a new STF FE lens is in the making.

We got first rumors about the possible new Sony FE STF lens:

  1. It will be a 100mm f/2.8 GM STF FE lens (code “SEL100F28GM”)
  2. It will have autofocus
  3. It will be alunched by end 2016

So unlike the [shoplink 50150 ebay]Sony 135mm f/2.8 STF A-mount lens (here on eBay)[/shoplink] the new FE lens will have 100mm focal lenght and also autofocus! I guess announcement will happen at Photokina…

Reminder: For those who don’t know what “STF” stands for. This is the description copied from BHphoto:

Sony’s Smooth Trans Focus (STF) technology has a very unique effect on defocused light sources, changing the way defocused areas appear depending on how it is adjusted. Smooth Trans Focus (STF) employs a special “apodization” element that controls the parts of the image that are not in focus. This does not affect the focused part of the image, only what is out of focus, and is set independently from the camera’s focus and aperture via the STF ring.

This wont’ struck as a surprise any of our readers. But we can confirm via one very highly trusted source that Sony will launch a new 16-35mm f/2.8 FE GM lens. While the source didn’t share yet any detail about the possible release date he said the lens was the “next GM zoom” on roadmap. I guess Photokina could be the right place for that announcement…

I have been told Zeiss will ship a new Batis telephoto prime lens the second half of the year. I have no exact specs although it’s rumored to be a 135mm lens. But that focal length info is yet SR3 only.

I would certainly be happy to get an E-mount version of the [shoplink 44061 ebay]current 135mm f/1.8 Zeiss A-mount lens[/shoplink]! And you? But I guess they may make it f/2.8 to keep it more compact. Anyway, let me know what you would prefer to get:

Sony lens developer Otake says a new Full Frame E-mount STF lens is in the making!

Kakaku reports about a meeting on July 16 with Sony lens designer Mr. Motoyuki Otake. He said a new FE mount STF lens is under development. He also said Sony started to develop this lens from 2011, but because STF apodization filter is very expensive to produce it took a lot of time before Sony were ready to launch this kind of lens.

According to a “source” that lens should be announced within the end of this year already!!!

Sony currently has an A-mount STF lens in their lineup. It’s the [shoplink 50150 ebay]Sony 135mm f/2.8 STF (here on eBay)[/shoplink]. I expect the new f/2.8 E-mount version to be a tele prime lens too!

Experiences with the LAOWA 12mm f/2.8 ZERO-D prototype by Dierk Topp

Experiences with the LAOWA 12mm f/2.8 ZERO-D prototype (by Dierk Topp)

I am a wide angle junky, bought my first 17mm fish eye Takumar in 1970 :-)

Last year I got the Laowa 15mm f/4 Wide-Angled 1:1 Macro Lens  and posted my impressions at Steve Huff:
http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/2015/11/06/laowa-15mm-f4-wide-angled-11-macro-lens-on-the-sony-a7rii-by-dierk-topp/
and in June 2016 I posted my first images made with the new Voigtlander Heliar-Hyper Wide 10mm f/5.6 Aspherical here at SAR:
http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/first-images-with-the-new-voigtlander-heliar-hyper-wide-10mm-f5-6-aspherical/

A few weeks ago Venus Optics contacted me and asked, if I would be interested in comparing their new LAOWA 12mm f/2.8 ZERO-D to the new 10mm f/5.6 Voigtlander. Of course I was interested! Last Saturday the packet from Hong Kong arrived, customs and everything payed by Venus Optics.

(SR3) Sony canceled the A5100 successor launch?

[shoplink 50041 ebay]Bildschirmfoto 2016-07-28 um 07.32.50[/shoplink]

Back in Spring the [shoplink 50041 ebay]Sony A5100[/shoplink] successor was rumored to be announced in June. But after the Kumamoto sensor facility stop Sony had to completely rework their camera release roadmap. This is what I got from two different sources:

Source 1: At least one of the new / planned cameras have been scraped. The already made and delivered aluminum body parts will have to be shipped back from the assembly factory to a scrap metal junkyard.

Source 2: Sony canceled a lower end super compact APS Camera that was supposed to follow the a5100. The reason is that all the sensors will be needed to fulfill the demand for the a6300

I guess Sony will launch the A5100 successor sometimes next year when all the sensor production issues are over. Trusted sources already told us that Sony expects to have a “Normal” sensor stock situation from September.
