Leica SL system will compete against the Sony A7 system for triple the price!

[shoplink 40718 ebay]Bildschirmfoto 2015-09-23 um 10.22.47[/shoplink]

In two weeks from now Leica will launch a completely new system camera with new mount. And it can be considered to be the real first Sony Full Frame E-mount competition. The Leica camera will be mirrorless and not(!) a rangefinder Leica M. It will be Full Frame, have a new mount, full autofocus support and EVF. And according to MirrorlessRumors.com the camera name will be “Leica SL”. This because the design is inspired by the [shoplink 40718 ebay]Leicaflex SL film cameras (like the one you see on the picture on top)[/shoplink].

The one big thing that will make it NOT a Sony competitor is the price. The body only will cost 2-3 times more than a Sony A7 camera!

(UPDATED) Bad news if true: Samsung kills their camera business?

[shoplink 40686 ebay]samsung[/shoplink]

There are four companies that can do almost all of the tech in-house (sensor, processor and so on). Those are Sony, Canon Panasonic and Samsung. And if the rumors reported at Mirrorlessrumors are correct than Samsung just decided just killed the entire camera business on a manager meeting held in July.

UPDATE: Samsung just released an official statement at Imaging Resource:

Withdrawing from the camera business is not true and there is no official plan to stop production of cameras and lenses. Samsung continuously analyzes the varying needs and requirements of consumers in each market and region very carefully. However, we do not officially comment on rumors or speculation.

(SR4) A6xxx announcement again(!) delayed til February 2016.

Image on top shows the Sony roadmap for Spring 2015. That is when the new A6xxx was planed to be released.

Ah gosh! I really hate that A6xxx camera story. The camera was long due to be released in Spring 2015 (as leaked on the Sony roadmap document above). But Sony is keeping pushing back the release.

In August a trusted source said the camera release was scheduled between September and October. The same source shared other correct rumors like for example the Sony Europe Online Store closure (rumor here) or FS5 camera specs (rumor here). So he has a solid track of correctly shared rumors. But tonight he contacted me back and told me the following:

  1. Sony Tokyo decided to push back (again!) the A6xxx announcement to February-March 2016
  2. Sony Tokyo did not unveil the reason for that but he suspects that strong A7rII sales and increased production necessity let them decide to focus on the A7srII (and A7sII) first.

I am really upset by this as it’s hard to get reliable on the A6xxx rumors if Sony keeps changing the roadmap.

Very personal note:
I remind you that I am very busy on a personal family level (one son with not too serious but very busy health issues) and work (major documentary projects) level til Spring.  So sorry for any delay in email checking, and for the less good reliable rumor the late 12 months. I will have more time to spend on sources and rumors from February 2016.

Pentax Full Frame DSLR camera with Sony sensor to be launched in Spring 2016.

PentaxFF

Today Pentax released the official teaser for their new upcoming FF camera. It’s highly likely the camera will feature a Sony FF sensor although it’s not clear if it will use the 36MP or the new 42MP sensor from the A7rII. A very interesting info is that the camera will feature a High Resolution shooting mode according to the reliable source Thistanaka.

As I reported in a previous post:
The same high resolution shooting mode feature is already used by their brand new K-3II:

The K-3 II is the first camera in the PENTAX line to incorporate Pixel Shift Resolution® for capturing still life subjects with ultra-high resolving power. Pixel shift technology uses the camera’s in-body Shake Reduction mechanism to move the image sensor at single pixel increments, capture 4 separate images, which are subsequently combined into a single high definition image. Benefits include higher resolving power, reduced false color and improved overall image quality of non-moving subjects.

If Pentax can use Sony sensor and their on sensor stabilization for high-resolution mode…than Sony should do this too! As Diglloyd reported such a feature on the A7rII could generate 144MP raw files of your…dead cat :)

Source was right: Europen Sony Online store closed (SR4) A6xxx replaces both NEX-7 and A6000.

sonyuk

Two days ago a trusted source said the European Sony Online stores would close at midnight. And indeed all stores have been removed! Just check Sony DEUK, FR, IT, ES, NL, BE, CH, AT, SE, FI, NO, PT.

So now that the trusted source was completely right on that rumor I will also share what he wrote about the A6xxx back in late August:

There is still probably the NEX7 replacement to come in the next month although I heard it will be also the A6000 replacement.

and in a second mail he added:

As far as I know it is due to be announced in September but you know how things change around here!

So, this should hopefully be the right info and finally the real release. That A6xxx rumor hunted us all year! The camera was first due in April-May and that was even confimed by the official Sony leaked roadmap (Wikileaks scandal). It than got delayed because of sever overheating issues and after that managment has decided to focus on the A7rII and A7sII release first.

(SR3) Sigma 24mm f/2.8 APS-C E-mount lens to be announced soon.

Image on top shows the current Sigma ART E-mount lens lineup.

We just got five new Cine FE lenses from Schneider and on Tokina FE Cine lens. And it sounds like another “third party” company will launch an E-mount lens soon. But this time it’s a cheap “noraml” photography lens:

Sigma is readying a new 24mm f/2.8 DN Art lens for APS-C E-Mount. Expect higher sharpness when compared to the 30mm, about the same level of sharpness as with the 60mm. Autofocus is speedier too compared to the 30mm. Announcement will come very soon within September.

Reminder: More Sony and Zeiss FE lenses will be announced within 3-4 weeks.
