And now we are close: Highly Trusted sources told us Zeiss will announce the new Loxia 21mm f/2.8 Full Frame E-mount lens on Monday Oct 12 at 11:00 Berlin time! I have no info on the price yet but the lens has a Biogon design just like the [shoplink 9804 ebay]ZM T* 2,8/21 version[/shoplink].

As usual you can follow the announcement live blogging on SAR! And keep in mind Sony will announce many more new FE lenses the week after the Zeiss announcement!

Speculations on forums: Did Diglloyd post images shot with the new Loxia 21mm and Otus 28mm lens?

Loxia_21mm_28

I got many mails from readers and saw many discussions on forum about Diglloyd latest posts. In particular people are questioning about two posts:

  1. Post one (Click here). Diglloyd posted images shot on the A7rII with a unnamed 21mm lens. The File Info shows this is an E-mount 21mm f/2.8 lens. There is no such lens on the market yet and Diglloyd doesn’t say in that post what lens he used. So because people keep discussing about those images on the web I asked him what lens he used and he answered he used an adapted [shoplink 41039 ebay]ZF lens[/shoplink]. It’s up to SAR readers to believe him or not :) UPDATE: On a new post Diglloyd makes it clear those ar ZF lens shots.
  2. Post two (Click here). Diglloyd posted an A7rII image shot with what he called “unknownLens”. Again, on forum and other blogs people speculated this could be the first image shot on the new Otus 28mm f/1.4 lens.

Beside all that speculation I have been told by my sources the new Loxia FE lens design is based on the current [shoplink 9804 ebay]Biogon T* 2,8/21 ZM design (here on eBay)[/shoplink]. And announcement should be made someday next week!

And do not forget that one week after the Zeiss Loxia 21mm announcement also Sony will announce their 8 new FE lenses too! Stay tuned on SAR!

This could be the 18-35mm f/2.0-2.8 E-mount lens?

Bildschirmfoto 2015-09-30 um 11.14.17

The Japanese site Egami found a new Konica-Minolta lens design patent that could make current A5/6000 camera owners jump of their chair (if it’s going to be made for real!). This is a 18-35mm f/2.0-2.8 APS-C lens for mirrorless system. Konica-Minolta is known for selling their lens design to third-party companies. And it would be amazing if we would get such a fast zoom lens for E-mount!

Of course it’s just a patent for now but it’s about time for Sony-Zeiss to release a fast zoom for APS-C E-mount camera owners!

(SR3) No new A-mount camera coming at Photoplus (now 17 months without A-mount camera announcement).

Bildschirmfoto 2015-09-29 um 10.16.13

One trusted source who lately shared some correct news sent me a disappointing info on A-mount. On his latest meeting with Sony managers he has been told there is no new A-mount camera coming at Photoplus this year. Now, the only hope left is that Sony somewhat lied to him to hide some surprise. But I really don’t think that’s the case.

It’s really sad that Sony is leaving A-mount owners in the dark. Despite their official statement that A-mount will “continue” the truth is the following:

1) The last A-mount camera they announced was the A77II in May 1, 2014. So it’s now 17 months without any new A-mount camera announcement.
2) The high end A99 camera got announced three years ago on Sep 12, 2012. It would be about time to announce a new camera!

And A-mount owners are not the only guys concerned. Also E-mount APS-C E-mount camera owners are waiting to get some new APS-C E-mount lens and new camera to upgrade. You can’t just ask A3000/A5000/A6000 camera owners to buy expensive and much to big FE lenses for their cameras…

(SR5) New Zeiss Otus is a 28mm lens!

Zeiss OTUS 1.4/85 on Sony A7R with Metabones Mark IV
Image on top shows the current 85mm Otus. Image and review by Dierk Topp on SAR.

Around mid October Zeiss will have a major new product announcement. And finally we are going to get a brand new Otus lens. But unlike rumors posted by other sites it is not going to be a 24mm lens. We have been told by bulletproof solid sources this will be a 28mm fast prime lens. And it’s going to be a VERY big lens. While the sources didn’t share the aperture info I just guess it’s again a f/1.4 lens and it will be available in Canon and Nikon mount. Of course being this a manual lens a Sony A7 camera will probably be a better choice for manual focusing because of the many aid the mirrorless camera gives you and a DSLR can not (like peaking, EVF magnification and so on).

Still not SR5 but highly likely is also the Zeiss Loxia wide angle announcement. Something Zeiss teased us already a couple of times this year. Let’s just hope Zeiss will be able to increase the production on both the Batis and that new Loxia lens. We really need them in our bag as soon as it gets!
