I read some comment and got some mails with questions about the new RX FF pocket camera. Once again I want to make it clear that the RX1 is not going to be replaced. What’s coming by end of August is a “variation” of the RX1 and will certainly not replace it. I am still working on the specs but I think the new RX may be even a tiny bit more expensive than the current RX1. If you want the RX1 you have no reason to wait unless of course you have four months time to wait until you can get the new RX (In October-November).

Not a successor, but simply a new RX model! I am working on the specs of the camera right now and I hope to get some more info from trusted sources. I also don’t know when the camera will be announced but everything hints on a possible late August release.

In short: A new RX100 MKII is coming in late June. A new RX FF camera likely in late August. New NEX cameras and lenses coming in late August too!

I got a confirmation from a very trusted source that indeed the new RX100 MKII will be officially announced by end of June! I am still working on the full specs but I can also confirm it has WiFi and swifel LCD. I just got a double hint about a possible new RX200 release:
First Sony Service reported to a SonyUseForum.de user that the RX200 is coming this month!
Second an anonymous source told me that the new RX100 MKII has a new CMOS sensor, Wifi and folding LCD screen.

These are two rumors coming from external and new sources. So take it with a grain of salt.

The Olympus 5 axis stabilization presentation video.

Great news folks! As you know the next bunch of A-mount cameras is expected to be launched in early 2014. And of the brand new key features will be the 5-Axis SSS developed in partnership with Olympus! As you know the Olympus E-M5 and the brand new E-P5 have that kind of tech. Sony and Olympus engineers are now developing it further to make it work on Sony’s next Full Frame cameras!

You can see the advantage of the 5 axis IS over the regular 2 axis stabilization on that video:

In short, not only will be the new 400mm f/4.0 A-mount lens be designed with Olympus. Also the new A-mount cameras will get some of the best tech from Olympus. I also hope they will use Olympus JPG engine knowledge to make Sony JPG’s look better.

The NEX-5r has been announced almost one year ago (on August 29). And for Sony time this means that a replacement is not very far away. A SAR reader wrote me the following message: “Just heard a bit of news when sent my NEX 5R for repairing. Since my cam has serious damage I consider getting a new one but the official repair company representative here in Northern Europe told me, that to get on my hands on Nex 5R I have to be quick, because they are taking it off production in June.”

Lately I pushed the A-mount rumors but I will soon post some more E-mount rumors too. Keep in mind that the NEX-7 successor, the 85mm f/1.4 and a fast zoom should be announced by end of August!

I know from trusted sources that a new A77 firmware is coming this summer. Yesterday a new source sent me some details. I don’t know yet if what I got is correct or not. So don’t get to excited yet. As usual I hope trusted sources can answer me soon on this to tell me if it’s correct or not. Thanks!

The source told me that the new A77, A65, A57, A37, A58 firmware with new jpg engine will be released in early July. The changes will be:

1) Added Lens Correction
2) Updated Jpg Engine (based on the honami smartphone project).
3) Revisions to menu structure
4) Revisions to video capture rates

As usual with SR2 rumors you know that they can’t be trusted for now! Certainly I would be very happy if that one turns out to be correct! That would be the second good news after yesterdays amazing A77 price drop:
