My two cents about the A7xx, A9xx and Sony firmware

Dear readers, I know you want me to find some rumors about the Sony A700Sony A700Sony A700Sony A700Sony A700Sony A700Sony A700Sony A700Sony A700Sony A700Sony A700 successor, about the next Fullframe camera and the Sony A850/A900 firmware update. I am working on it. We got some small rumors but we need confirmations before to post it on SonyAlphaRumors. What I can tell you now is:

1) I didn’t receive any rumor that would lead me to believe that the Sony A700 successor is going to be announced at Photokina. But the good news is that it seems that Sony is working hard to deliver the camera as soon as possible, they are definitely feeling the pressure made by the Alpha Folks!
2) We received some rumors from unknown sources about the Sony A950. But I do not expect any new fullframe camera in 2010. I am one of those guys who is dreaming a A950 with ExmorHD sensor :)
3) Sony is still struggling with the Sony A850/A900 firmware update. Let’s hope they will manage it to solve the programming issues!

Reminder: Keep in mind that all those infos I am writing here are “rumors” There is nothing official, and no info came from Sony itself.

Would you consider to buy a Batis 18mm f/2.8 lens?

Sony is working on new sensor designs (patent disclosure)

One of the latest Sony patents disclosed a new kind of sensor. Pixel size does change based on their color characteristic. This does make sense because every color has a different sensivity. Read the google english translation:

  • Patent publication number 2010-129548
    • 2010/06/10 Release date 2010/06/10
    • 2008/11/25 Filing Date November 25, 2008
  • Current Issues
    • The signal level is smaller and more pixelated, S / N ratio is difficult to ensure
    • RGB wavelengths the energy profile for each file is different
  • Patent Technology
    • Energy profiles corresponding to the active area (pixel size) and
    • Long wavelength light (Red) is a large photodiode (detector sensors) and
      • Silicon on the substrate, R is the weakest of the irradiation energy
      • RGbGrB square fit to
  • Consider the type and surface radiation exposure type back
  • Bayer employs
  • Pixel pitch of 1.1μm (back radiation) 2.5μm and (irradiated surface) examined

(SR5) The two pellix cameras will record in AVCHD, have an electronic viewfinder,…

Finally we have some more reliable infos about the Pellix cameras:
1) The Pellix camera will come with an electornic viewfinder (yes like it is shown on the Sony patent)
2) If you want you will be able to move-up the pellix mirror to avoid the light-loss (but phase detection will not work)
3) At least one camera will record in AVCHD (We don’t know if the A33 will record in AVCHD or Mpeg only)
4) The A55 has a 16 Megapixel sensor and the A33 a 14 Megapixel sensor

Both cameras will be released at Photokina. But As I told you before two more ExmorHD Alpha cameras will be announced soon (yes, before Photokina). More news about that will be posted as soon as we get some more reliable infos!

Thanks!
