Sigma will soon announce a STUNNING new lens!

Reliable sources Sigma is going to announce another new STUNNING new lens. I should soon get the final confirmation on the specs…so please be patient..

P.S.: If the specs I have will get confirmed this is an EPIC lens people on SAR will love…also because there is NO such lens in the E-mount range yet!

Competition news: Both Nikon and Panasonic are rumored to announce a new Sony FX3 competitor!

In a strange coincidence of events we might soon get TWO direct Sony FX3 competitors:

  • Panasonic might announce a new L-mount compact cine camera with 24MP stacked sensor in April
  • Nikon might announce a new Z-mount compact cine camera with eh 24MP partially stacked sensor used by this camera.

The good news for us: This should put pressure on Sony to release a new FX3II. I pod hope it uses the same 24MP global shutter sensor of the A9III.

New Sony Venice Extension Mini will be announced on March 26

On March 26 Sony will announce the new Venice Extension System Mini. One of our readers (Thanks!) shared this insight on the camera:

Sony has announced that it will release a scaled-down VENICE expansion module on March 26, 2025, designed to deliver next-generation visual content in an ultra-compact form factor. The VENICE Extension System Mini (model CBK-3621XS) has a built-in 8.6K full-frame CMOS sensor that retains the image quality of VENICE 2, but is approximately 70% smaller than the VENICE Extension System 2 (image block volume ratio). Flexibility is built into every corner of the compact design. A slim, soft, detachable cable brings greater freedom to filmmaking, while also opening up XR content creation and stitching shooting. SAR
The PL mount adapter supports more lens selection and metadata recording. Assignable buttons and numerous mounting holes allow photographers to mount and shoot to their preferences. This compact system is ideal for handheld, gimbal, and POV shooting.

That’s all we can expect from this announcement. The next interesting announcement from Sony should come soon with the release of a new lens!

New Sony Full Frame camera coming on March 26!!!

Sony just published this teaser for a new camera launch on March 26. And here are the things you have to know…let’s start with the FACTS:

  1. This cameras is a new Full Frame E-mount cine focused model
The teaser itself shows an E-mount Full Frame camera. And the teaser is sent by Sony professional which is the cine division.
  2. This is a compact camera
The teaser says it’s “small” and shoots big
  3. Announcement on March 26 at 2pm GMT time

THE RUMOR

A few weeks ago, I told you that Sony had postponed the launch of the Sony A7V and was instead expecting to launch another E-mount camera that is more of a ‘niche’ product. The source said it won’t be a Sony FX3 successor. I do not have specs to share yet but my hope is that it uses the same Sony A9III global shutter.

THE ONE CURIOUS DETAIL

The official Sony teaser video also contains this detail:

Curiosity: Two new medium format cameras leaked (using the Sony’s 102MP sensor)

Recently I leaked the first image of the new FujiFilm GFX100RF (my video is here) and of the Hasselblad X2DII (my video is here). Both will use the well known Sony 102Mp sensor.

And this once more reminds of the fact, that I would love Sony making a medium format system camera too. And if patents are any indications than if Sony would go medium format they would really do it differently than competition:

  1. BIG and REAL Medium format sensor:
Most of Sony’s patent show that they use the larger 53.5mmx 40mm size sensor with 0,65 crop factor. This is larger than the current Fuji GFX sensor (44x30mm, 1.7 larger than FF and 0,79 crop)
  2. CURVED (patents here)
Usually larger sensor means larger lenses too. But in most of the Sony patents we see the camera suing a curved sensor. This allows the lenses to be much smaller because they don’t need additional glass to correct for distortion. And it allows to get the same sharpness all across the frame. The f/2.8 (FF equivalent f/1.7) lenses are barely larger than Full frame f/1.4 primes.
  3. FAST LENSES:
The patented lenses are all primes with f/2.8 aperture. This is equivalent to f/1.7 in Full Frame terms.

Final take:
But I think the curved sensor tech is still far out and if Sony would go medium format now they would use the regular flat sensors. Their latest sensor for the 53x40mm sensor size have 150MP and 250MP resolution. For the 44x30mm sensor size sonny released a new 126MP global shutter sensor. Still, so far I got no indication Sony plans to enter the medium format world.

In my opinion, they should do it because it would open up a new mounting system for them to develop potentially exciting cameras and lenses that they can sell at a higher margin than full frame. What are your thoughts on this?
