Sony A6600 sensor tested at DxO: “attractive camera at a relatively affordable price”

Share

DxOmark tested the Sony A6600 sensor and concludes:

Sony continues to stay ahead with its 24MP APS-C Exmor sensor, particularly with regard to low-light performance and high ISO dynamic range, though overall image quality is largely unchanged from earlier models. It has also ceded some ground to rivals’ smaller Four-Thirds sensors (albeit most likely Sony-made); as for APS-C, Canon has trumped Sony in resolution with a new 32.5MP sensor.

Nevertheless, the Sony A6600 is capable of producing superb-quality images, and the inclusion of its Real-Time Tracking Autofocus for both stills and video, along with a larger battery over its predecessor, make it an appealing upgrade over the A6500. With a well-rounded feature set, the Sony A6600 is an attractive camera at a relatively affordable price.

Sony WH-1000XM4 headphone leaked

Share

This isn’t an Alpha leak but I know many of you use headphones for video editing like I do. I just recently bought the discounted Sony WH1000XM3 headphones. Well the new WH1000XM4 just got leaked and I guess they will be announced very soon. They look exactly like the XM3 but have those additional new features (via TheVerge):

  • Bluetooth v5 (updated from v4.2)
  • 2W of rated power consumption (down from 8W)
  • 40 hours of operation when connected via headphone cable and noise cancelation on max (up from 36 hours)
  • Something new called “speak to chat,” perhaps making it easier to work with Google Assistant, Siri, and Alexa (they require a button press now)

Tokina promises to launch five new E-mount lenses in 2020!

Share

Today Tokina issued a press release to inform about the development of five new lenses for the E-mount system

  1. 35mm f/1.8 Full Frame E-mount
  2. 50mm f/1.8 Full Frame E-mount
  3. 23mm f/1.4 APS-C lens for Sony E
  4. 33mm f/1.4 APS-C lens for Sony E
  5. 56mm f/1.4 APS-C lens for Sony E

The APS-C lenses aren’t coming as a big surprise. These exact same lenses have been announced a couple of months ago by Viltrox :) And we know Tokina 85mm f/1.8 FE  and Viltrox 85mm f/1.8 FE share the same optical design (article here).

All lenses are expected to have autofocus. The APS-C lenses will be released in Summer and the Full Frame lenses in autumn.

RUMOR: Sony A7IV coming this year and Sony A7rIV low resolution shooting mode in the works?

Share

A source shared some tidbits about Sony and Zeiss:

About Sony he said:

Sony representatives mentioned that we should expect the a7IV later this year and NOT at the CP+
A different Sony representative mentioned that they are actively working on allowing a7RIV shooters to shoot at lower MegaPixels. He mentioned that it’s been one of the highest requests, so they’re working on it.

About Zeiss he said:

Zeiss expects their ZX1 camera early summer or late spring. They also might consider developing more lenses for E-mount, but they still considered the 40 to be new, so not sure about that.
