Sony A6100 review by Engadget: “The best budget camera you can get right now!”

Share

The new Sony A6100 got the first $150 price drop at Amazon, BHphoto, Adorama, FocusCamera.

I do agree with Steve Dent from Engadget when he says the A6400 and A6600 are somewhat underwhelming considering the competition. And I also agree when he says that the A6100 is an exception: At this price point it’s the best camera to get mainly because it’s terrific autofocus performance:

Fuji cameras do have built-in simulation filters but we Alpha shooters have them not. But there is a way to have all those film styles with the new Nik collection 2.3 by DxO (available here). You can have a 30 days free trial here to test ALL the film simulations.

Here is a video showcasing how you can make your image look like a Fuji Neopan ACROS 100 shot:

WILD RUMOR: 5 years after we might get the new Sony RX1RIII in 2020???

Share

A Zeiss source told us the ZX1 will ship in mid 2020 only. And he said the reason for that are “conflicts with the Sony RX1R III“. He didn’t mention WHAT those conflicts might be but I guess it confirms Sony will launch the new RX1RIII in 2020? It might be that Sony wants to launch it before the Zeiss. I am 99% sure most of the physical Zeiss ZX1 components are made by Sony and this is why they have to coordinate the launch together?

I confess that I have a hard time believing Sony will continue the RX line. The only reason to do so if it would clearly differentiate from the current Sony FE cameras. Which means for example using innovative tech like curved sensor or to test and launch a completely new interface.

What to you think?

Should Sony keep developing the RX1 line?

Share

preorder on Amazon US

The new TTArtisans 11mm f/2.8 FE fisheye lens got tested by Marc on SonyAlphaBlog:

The TTArtisans 11mm F2.8 Fisheye (300 euros) is a Compact stereographic fisheye with very good sharpness on the entire frame when used outdoor at F5.6 , and even excellent at F2.8 in the centre for close subject

Its closest competitor the Samyang 12mm F2.8 ED AS NCS Fisheye (450 euros) offers a slightly wider field of view (even if given at 12mm, it is wider) , a better sharpness in the corners at F2.8 but a more nervous background blur , it is much more bulky and the build quality is lower (all plastic)

Pros

  • Excellent sharpness in close up
  • Very good sharpness on the entire frame at F5.6 and very good in the centre at F2.8
  • Very smooth backound blur
  • Very good color rendiution
  • Very good build qaulity
  • Compact
  • Reasonable price : 215$ / 300 Euros

Average

  • Chromatic aberrations
  • Average flare resistance
  • Some vignetting at F2.8
  • Sunstars not well defined

Cons

  • Sharpness at F2.8 in the corner

New Topaz Denoise AI released: Here is how it beats the tools from Lightroom, Capture One and DxO

Share

TopazLabs announced the new DeNoise AI software. And you pay $50 only if you use the checkout code “BATCH15“. If you click on the image on top and scroll down on their website you can see how their Denoise AI software works on Lightroom, Capture One and DxO.

The new version has two new features:

  • New batch processing capabilities
  • New Chroma Noise Reduction slider

Chroma noise is easily recognized as those pesky color specks appearing across your photo. The Chroma slider allows you to target and remove this specific type of noise.

In general DeNoise AI examines the whole image and holistically determines the difference between detail and noise in that photo. (Other NR tools only look at pixel-level detail.) After understanding what noise vs. detail looks like for that specific image, DeNoise AI recovers a surprising amount of detail from noise.

Here is the official intro video:

You can also download the trial only:

Don’t forget to use the checkout code “BATCH15” when buying Denoise AI (click here).
