Double Sony press events: on May 31 (no E-mount gear) and June 5/6 (with new E-mount gear)

Share

Folks we have two Sony press events ahead of us:

May 31 event:
Sony will have a press event at the Cinegear show. But I  think there will be no new E-mount gear announced on that event. Seems like Sony’s focus is on their classic camcorder business and Venice ecosystem.
Don’t think there will be a video livestream for that. But if there is one I will post it on SAR

June 5/6 event:
With 100% certainty we will get one (or more?) new E-mount products. I should get some more details about what to expect in the next hours. I am 90% certain there will be no A9II or A7sIII announcement on that event.
There should be a live stream and I will embed it on SAR.

The future Sony A7sIII has to compete against those Panasonic S1H specs

Share

On Friday (May 31) Panasonic will officially announce the new S1H Cine L-mount camera. This is the first direct Sony A7sII competitor. And the new Sony A7sIII which is rumored to be announced this autumn will have to at least match if not beat those specs leaked right now by L-rumors.com:

Panasonic Cine Lumix  S1H will be announced on May 31
It’s L-mount

New Full Frame sensors
Records 6K24p and 4k60p
Records 10bit 4:2:2 internal at 30p and external 60p
14 stops Dynamic Range

Cinematography dream gear
It’s built like a tank.
Slightly bigger than the S1-S1R for better heat dissipation
full built-in log settings
lot more epxensive than the S1R

My feeling is that the Sony A7sIII will be much better than this new S1H!

Tony Northrup believes the Sony E-mount and Fuji X-mount are the only 100% futureproof mounts

Share

Tony Northrup analyzed the companies fiscal report and the sales trend (like this one one Amazon) to conclude that:

1) The Sony E-mount and Fuji X-mount are the mounts that are the most future proof. It means in five years from now those mounts will be still well supported

2) The Canon EOS, Canon R and Nikon F mounts are also highly likely to be fine in a few years from now

3) The Fuji GFX and Nikon Z mounts are uncertain. While the reason behind a possible GFX failure is the slim amount of potential customers in case of Nikon he has a different argument: Nikon as a whole is not doing well. And the Nikon Z mount camera sales are very slow.

4) The Canon EOS-M, MFT, L-mount and Pentax mounts are doomed

I agree 90% with it. I am not so pessimistic about the Nikon Z and MFT mounts though…
