(SR3) Rumors about a new FE lens manufacturer…

sony

An anonymous source told me this:

Speaking to the guys in XXX (Editor’s note: removed name and location) yesterday, one of them said a new manufacturer is releasing lenses for FE mount next year, and its “not who’d you think”, i checked and he didnt mean voigtlander, but would tell me no more other than “price point a bit below Zeiss level”.

Not sure what company this could be. Let’s hope “below Zeiss level” also means that these lenses will be high quality just like Zeiss lenses.

Review of the A7R II on Dutch website Pixelmania.
Here is a quick look at the SLR Magic 50mm F1.1 E mount lens for sony FE at Alexk.com.

Sven:It’s not a rumor but a review I want to share: having used the RX1RII for a while now & I’m pretty stoked: http://blog.svenkraeuterphotography.com/2015/sony-rx1rii-review/
I know it’s not an alpha officially, but it’s a pro grade mirrorless & I know you kind of think the same ;-).

What could be the A-mount flange advantage? Z-shift, hybrid mount, 8K video…

Share

[shoplink 43564 ebay]AX[/shoplink]

Last week a Sony manager said: “E-mount won’t replace (and kill) it since there are things you can do with the longer flange distance in A mount that you can’t with E mount” (article here).
I tried to figure out what the possible A-mount flange advantages could be. What came to my mind is the following list:

      1. SAR reader Rick Rupert suggested that Sony could use the “space” to AF with manual lenses just like the [shoplink 43564 ebay]Contax AX[/shoplink] did. But I think that’s highly unlikely. Complex to build and not sure it’s really a highly requested feature. By the way Sony already patented this in 2014 (article here).
      2. Better heat management and higher video performance. With more space in the camera higher bitrate and maybe even 8K recording could be easier implemented on A-mount cameras. That yes could work out…a real very high end A-mount camera with no compromises.
      3. Better ergonomic and button layout. Well, Sony could also do a sort of A9 E-mount camera with bigger body too.
      4. Make it hybrid mount. Capable of using both A and E-mount lenses without adapter. One camera to rule them all. That would be nice :)

Please let us know if you have some more points! Thanks!

Sony ILCA a9x Mirrorless Apha, Global Shutter, Z Shift User Concept:

Reminder: Recently Bruno from Lesnumeriques told us about Sony’s A-mount strategy: “They focus on FF lenses for A-Mount and consider that their APS-C line up is enough for now.” (article here). This sorts of confirms A-mount could continue as a “premium” system.

CES for Sony: FDRX2000 will be best actioncamera on market!

Share

CES

As you know on January 5 Sony will have a livestreaming to announce new products. I am trying to figure out what’s coming but so far I only heard about new smartphones, camcorders and actioncameras.

Actioncameras are the most sold kind of cameras and therefore very important for Sony. We Alpha users probably couldn’t care less…But some of the new actioncamera tech may will find his way in Alpha or RX cameras too.

So far I have been told there will be two new actioncameras: AS50 and FDRX2000.

I got this  from an anonymous source about the FDRX2000:

It will be the best action cam on the market. The improvements are mainly a better sensor with improved frame rates and low light capabilities

And those AS50 specs and image from a trusted source:

-Same as usually Zeiss lens
-XAVC-S 50mbps codec
-FullHd recording 60p
-New menu with icons (much easier and faster to navigiate)
-Waterproof up to 60m with included case
-Batery compartement is similar to the one in az1, but as50 works with same battery as as20
-Bluetooth (to power on camera with the remote)
-Electronic zoom
-There will be new remote rm-lvr3 but will not be sold with as50 and will be released later in 2016
