Against rival models from other makers, the Sony is a very competitive performer optically. Indeed, it is a slightly better performer than the $1,600, L-series Canon equivalent, introduced in 2010, and is several leagues ahead of the Nikon.
Samyang just announced two new FF lenses: The 85mm f/1.2 and the 14mm f/2.4! They are the first lenses of the new Samyang “Premium” lens range. Those are not autofocus lenses but do have electronic aperture control. Samyang said these lenses can outresolve 50MP sensors and are fit for 8K resolution.
Sadly the 85mm lens will be available for Canon EF mount only yet and it’s unclear if they plan to make an A or E-mount version too. But the 14mm lens will be available for E-mount!

There is currently a third-party sellers that keeps offering crazy low prices on Sony A7 cameras at Amazon Germany. Prices are often 6-700 Euro lower(!) than normal. But according to some readers this is not a reliable seller despite the high rating it scores at Amazon. And in order to get that price it seems you have to contact the seller first (that’s what I have been told).
