(SR3) Sony A99 successor rumor roundup.

Share

I still have no reliable info about when exactly Sony will announce the A99 successor. All I got are info via anonymous sources. Take them with a grain of salt:

Source 1:New pro A-mount camera is coming in 2015. This should be the A99 replacement.

Source 2:I went to the Sony presentation in Toronto, ON on the 26th and actually had a chance to speak to multiple persons who work at Sony Canada, specifically in the imaging division. They informed me that a full frame camera that almost mirror’s the A77II capabilities only using a full frame sensor will be filling the product line between the A77II, and the A99 replacement. I didn’t get much more out of them than that.

Source 3:AF system has been redesigned and main priorities were AF + PDAF, raw file compression algorithm, S-Log implementation and data backend throughput rather than resolution.”

Very important: What we know and don’t know about the new A7 series camera yet!

Share

A7r

There is a lot of noise on the web about the new A7 series camera. And a lot of other rumors sites state in bold the new camera will have 50+ Megapixel and sometimes mix the info with rumors I posted here. Therefore to avoid uncertainty I want to make it 100% clear what I know and what I don’t know about the next A7 series camera:

I am 90% sure:
– There will be a new A7 series camera between now and June (and a new A6xxx and RX series camera)

I am 75% sure:
– The camera will be a new A7r successor.
– It has 5 axis stabilization and faster focusing

I am not so sure:
– I am yet not not sure if the camera will have 50+ Megapixel. I have been told by a trusted source Sony has a 50+MP camera in the works but I have absolutely no confirmation if that camera is the A7r successor coming soon. And actually first rumors I got from anonymous sources pointed out the A7rII would have the same although “tweaked” 36Mp sensor.
– The Sony X Australia community has a touch and try session on May 15. But I am yet not 100% sure that’s for the A7 successor camera.

In summary: A7rII with 5 axis IBIS, faster focus and faster BIONZ processor is coming. But I have no info yet from trusted sources if the camera features a new 50+ sensor or a “tweaked” 36MP sensor.

One more technical note for rumor sources: Contact form did not work the last 36hours. Now it works agin. You can share the info here:

Sony wanted to make a 85mm f/1.2 Zeiss. Was too big.

[shoplink 35820 ebay]Zeiss_planar_85mm_12[/shoplink]

The same source who shared the correct Zeiss Batis lens specs back in January also told me that Sony had a Zeiss 85mm f/1.2 lens prototype. Sony decided to not launch it because it was way to big to be used on the FE cameras.
Zeiss made once such a lens for the Contax system. The Zeiss Planar 85mm 1.2 which now sells for [shoplink 35820 ebay]more than $3,000 used on eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. Just to say that the lens would not only have been big…but also rather expensive.

FAKE rumor busted: 59MP image from Sakamoto has been shot on the A7II and upsized to 59MP.

Share

Bildschirmfoto 2015-05-06 um 18.48.15

Plenty of rumor sites just posted a link to that image on Flickr from Sakamoto Mayu. They claim this could be another A7rII image. As you know EXIF and TXT data can easily be faked. But somewhat fakers forget that there are other parameters in EXIF file and they forget to change them ;)

The EXIF file from Sakamto Mayu shows the following small detail:

Bildschirmfoto 2015-05-06 um 18.21.21

That’s the focal resolution of the current A7II !!! Just try to read your A7II Exif info and you will see the focal plane resolution matches.

And the A7r resolution would be
Focal Plane X Resolution        : 2049.067291
Focal Plane Y Resolution        : 2049.067291

So this is a upsized image guys :)

Unlike the Sakamotu image the Zeiss image has no such focal plane resolution image. So that is still somewhat strange (a part of the fact that’s weird Zeiss uploaded a 59MP image). So this doesn’t yet mean there is no 59MP cameras. It just means plenty of guys are taking “inspiration” from the Zeiss image to have some fun :)

Just to be 100% clear about the A7rII: There is yet no single proof (or at least SR5 rumor from trusted sources) saying the new A7x camera coming soon has 50+ Megapixel! All SonyAlphaRumors can tell you with a 90% reliability is that there will be a new A7 camera series announced soon! And as far as I heard from one of my good sources this should be the A7rII.
