Jerry: “I have now owned both a Sony a7 and an a7II.
One of the very few shortcomings, as noted in practically all reviews on these cameras though, is the fact that if you want to use its LCD finder on the back, and hold the camera down at waist level, which in many cases shades the camera’s eyepiece sensor heavily, the sensor within the EVF’s rubber hood thinks the camera is being held to your eye and turns the LCD completely off in favor of the EVF only. Of course, there’s the menu setting on the camera to set one or the other SOLELY, but this is a hassle when you need to switch back and forth frequently .
I finally discovered a simple fix to remedy this very aggravating situation using a product called Light Dims, which are little  inexpensive, stick-on pre-cot pieces of a neutral gray shading material actually made for putting over glaring, bright LED’s that are overly bright and irritate you at night or in dark places.
By simply cutting a 3mm X 5mm piece of this material and applying it over the left half of the EVF sensor window, the sensor functions perfectly and the LCD remains on even in very low light, plus the EVF still switches on again automatically when the camera is held up to your eye! This is an incredibly simple fix that many Sony a7 users have wrestled with for months and have hoped and hoped that Sony would correct via a firmware update! It seems to work for all the Sony a7 models including the a7, a7R, a7II and a7S. (SR3) UPDATED: Sony working on a new RX1-X.

UPDATED: A trusted source said he “heard” from Sony that they are “working” on a new RX1-X camera. He has no specs to share yet and also didn’t get an announcement timeframe. It’s yet unclear if Sony will launch the RX1-X or/and the RX100m4 on the Sony World Photo Award event on April 23.

Speculation:
This could be the first Sony FF camera featuring the new curved sensor. Sony Patents already disclosed that camera featuring a fixed 35mm f/1.8 lens. The “X” in the name could stay for the High Resolution sensor (48-50MP?). But maybe I am going to far with my dreams and the curved FF sensor is not ready yet for mass production…

That said the RX series always has been on the front of the innovation. So let’s hope Sony will indeed show us some kind of new tech with that camera!

LOL: Naked guy says RX100m3 is radioactive :)

A paranoic-vegan naked guy (let me have some fun describing him) made that very (un)scientific test to claim the [shoplink 35573 ebay]RX100m3[/shoplink] is a dangerous radioactive camera. And he used a $34 ghost hunting Gauss Master (here on Amazon) to measure the radiation (LOL!).
I saw the video posted on some forums and thought it would be good the debunk the myth also with the little help of Marc Morris. He commented the video and said:

Remarkable paranoia. I’m impressed with your commitment but remain thoroughly UNswayed. All communicative products have screens of various properties and have EMR output that is negligible at best. Your HDTV makes the camera look like a piker, your cellphone is ALWAYS on and and is either on or near your person: no lead carrier blocks the radiation you’re so frightened of. It’s unavoidable. Most Gaussmeters of the cost effective variety will give seriously false readings when placed too closely to portable electronics like a cell phone or a camera: you are using a device that is not built to measure portable electronics accurately. What that thing is saying is that this RX100M3 is putting out a reading that meets the average reading of a hair dryer at normal usage distances, or that of standing underneath a transmission line outside a home (http://www.arpansa.gov.au/radiationprotection/factsheets/is_magfields.cfm). Asinine. The camera in its most nuclear phase could not do so. Prolonged exposure would mean hours set aside, of days and days on end of looking through the viewfinder without blinking, when in fact it is for mere seconds at a time and it would take months of work to have looked through the viewfinder for an hour in total. The premise and the good will are noted and lauded. The lack of thorough education is, on the other hand, absolutely not.

So please don’t be scared by the video. Just don’t use your RX100m3 while drying your hair and you will be fine :)
