Sony sends out invitations for a September 4 event ( Honami and QX launch!).

Share

ThePhoBlographer received that Sony invitation for a September 4th press event. according to our sources this event is very likely for the new Honami i1 smartphone (with G lens and 1/2.3 inch sensor) and for the QX “lens-cameras” series. The new NEX-5t and 16-70mm Zeiss E-mount lens will be announced earlier (probably August 29). While I expect the NEX-FF (and A-mount stuff?) to be announced in late September.

(SR4) More Zeiss lenses than expected for the new FF system: three to come!

Image on top shows the [shoplink 19913 ebay]Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 C Biogon T*[/shoplink] for the M-mount system. A similar (but bigger) lens will be announced for the E-mount FF system.

Trusted sources told me (with my huge surprise) that Sony and Zeiss worked much closer than expected on the soon to come new NEX-FF system. I now have been told that along the Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 FF E-mount lens there will be two more Zeiss lenses! A source also told me there would be a Sony branded G zoom lens too. This makes a total of four lenses that will be unveiled along the NEX-FF camera (in September?). I am now trying to convince sources to share the detailed Lens specs.

The rumor is marked SR4 until I get a clear evidence that these lenses are real. Someone has a picture to share? :=)

[shoplink 20283 ebay][/shoplink]

There is a first review of the new [shoplink 20283 ebay]Contax G to NEX adapter[/shoplink] with electronic control at DC.Watch (google translation here). The performance really depends on the lens used. And the AF accuracy isn’t top notch. The manufacturer said that this is so because of lack of support from Sony. They hope to improve the AF performance with future updates.

You can find the [shoplink 20283 ebay]Techart Contax to NEX adapter on eBay (Click here)[/shoplink].

Here is the list of great G lenses with links to eBay price:

(SR5) Sony will soon announce the Zeiss 16-70mm f/4.0 E-mount lens!

Share

Image of the Zeiss Touit prototype lens (not the new 16-70mm lens!)

And finally we will get our first high quality zoom for the NEX system. Sony will launch the new Zeiss 16-70mm f/4.0 E-mount lens by End of August (likely August 29)! It will be unveiled along the new NEX-5T camera. This is a completely different lens than the 16-80mm Zeiss A-mount version (here at Amazon). But the price will be more or less similar (around $1,000).

One more NEX-FF thing: Still working on the camera specs. But I was able to get lens info from one source. I am now trying to double check the info I got. If it’s true than the lenses are GREAT! And that is not me being Sony fanboy or over emotional. Stay tuned on SAR!

George Clooney backs up Sony’s strategy and says Loeb is a “carpet bagger”

Share

A couple of months ago Daniel Loeb, hedge fund manager and owner of a large 7% Sony share criticized the Sony company strategy. He recently also criticized the Sony movie business. But this time Sony got a very unexpected backup from George Clooney. Deadline.com reports Clooneys words:

“Loeb calls himself an activist investor, and I would call him a carpetbagger, and one who is trying to spread a climate of fear that pushes studios to want to make only tent poles… Why is he buying stock like crazy if he’s so down on things? He’s trying to manipulate the market. I am no apologist for the studios, but these people know what they are doing.”

How any hedge fund guy can call for responsibility is beyond me, because if you look at those guys, there is no conscience at work. It is a business that is only about creating wealth, where when they fail, they get bailed out and where nobody gets fired. A guy from a hedge fund entity is the single least qualified person to be making these kinds of judgments, and he is dangerous to our industry.”

Well said George!

And you may read the latest article on The Verge too:

In the end, Sony saw Loeb’s proposal as little more than a distraction along the way to executing Hirai’s plan. And, with recent successes in smartphones and even televisions, it’s understandable that the company would want to keep its focus on the path ahead.

Now let’s see if the soon to be announced new QX and NEX cameras will be another success!
