Two new sources just reported that the new NEX-5T will be announced around August 13-14. If you expect some NEX-FF and A-mount news you will have to wait till September. I don’t know yet what else could be announced along the NEX-5T. As you know we posted rumors about the DSLR shaped E-mount camera, the 55-150mm f/2.8 lens and NEX-7 successor. Let’s hope for the best!

CanonWatch just posted the first picture of what could be the Sigma 24-70 f/2 DG OS HSM Full Frame Lens. This lens will hit the market in 2014 and cost less than Canon, Nikon or Sony’s 24-70mm f/2.8 lenses! After the great 18-35mm f/1.8 APS-C lens Sigma is once again ready to proof the world that the impossible is possible!

P.S.: Sigma 18-35mm f/1.8 A-mount lens will ship any day now at Amazon (Click here), BHphoto (Click here) and Adorama (Click here).

Sony says it will add new RX models! (Sony Q1 financial report)

Share
Sony just released their Q1 financial report (download the pdf). Before to jump to the pure financial analysis there is an interesting new info. Sony writes:
Sony aims to enhance its profitability through initiatives such as adding new models to the ‘DSC-RX’ series, which created a market for high end compact digital cameras with large image sensores developed by Sony last year
Indeed the RX100MII is selling fine in US (Amazon ranking here). And regarding the future RX models…I will soon post a rumor about a new RX FF camera. Stay tuned on SAR!
Now back to the financial analysys. There is a good and a bad news to report. First the good news. There is a small overall profit of $35 million. Finally Sony is writing Black numbers. The small bad news is that Imaging Division earnings dropped by 10% mainly because of “significant decrease in unit sales of video cameras and compact digital cameras“. Here is the full info regarding the Imaging Division:
Sales (Imaging Products & Solutions)
decreased 10.4% year-on-year (a 26% decrease on a constant currency basis) to 173.6 billion yen (1,753 million U.S. dollars). This decrease was primarily due to a significant decrease in unit sales of video cameras and compact digital cameras reflecting a contraction of these markets, partially offset by the favorable impact of foreign exchange rates during the current quarter.
Outlook (Imaging Products & Solutions)
The outlook for overall segment sales remains unchanged from the May forecast primarily due to the favorable impact of foreign exchange rates, offset by a downward revision in the annual unit sales forecasts of video cameras and digital cameras. The outlook for operating income also remains unchanged from the May forecast due to the favorable impact of foreign exchange rates and expected cost improvements, despite a downward revision in the forecast for unit sales. Sales are expected to increase and operating income is expected to improve significantly year-on-year.

I think the next camera release could push the Imaging Division earnings. There are plenty of new cameras to come within the next 6 months. NEX-FF, A-mount mirrorless, APS-C cameras, new RX cameras….quite a lot of things!

Preparing for the NEX-FF. Let me know how third party lenses work on the VG900!

Share

If there is really a NEX-FF coming…and with in body IS than this is great news for all third party Full Frame lens owners. But I understand there is a big concern about the image quality that you can achieve with these lenses on a Full Frame E-mount camera. I am sure the NEX-FF camera will handle this better than the VG900 does. But I would be interested to see some VG900 + [shoplink 19605 ebay]Leica M Lenses[/shoplink], [shoplink 19923 ebay]Voigtlander M lenses[/shoplink], [shoplink 16763 ebay]Canon FD lenses[/shoplink], [shoplink 19360 ebay]Zeiss ZM lenses[/shoplink] and more thrid party lens tests… Please share the links to test you wdid or found on the web!

(SR4) The first NEX-FF prime lens is the Zeiss 35mm f/2.8.

Share

Finally some real concrete info on the new NEX-FF system!

According to two sources the first prime lens to be announced along the new NEX-FF camera will be the Zeiss 35mm f/2.8. A perfect lens for street photography. Some of you may wnated it faster but this would have made the lens way too big! The Sony-Zeiss goal was to make it as compact and as high quality as possible. And I think that’s a great start for the new NEX-FF camera system!

Note that Zeiss once made the Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 C Biogon T* for the M-mount system (you can find the lens here at Amazon US or [shoplink 19913 ebay]eBay[/shoplink]). The new NEX-FF version will be bigger but I hope it will look very close to the ZM lens:

I have no info about the price of the lens. But let me know….

Which Sigma f/1.2 lens would you consider to buy?
