(SR5) NEX-FF biggest surprise: Sony decides to go for an Olympus OMD alike design!

Share

The [shoplink 21520 ebay]Olympus OMD[/shoplink] shape. Something like that can be expected for the E-mount FF camera

There is one big surprise concerning the design of the NEX-FF cameras. Sony had three different prototype designs and instead of going on the classic NEX-7 design they decided to go for the….[shoplink 21520 ebay]Olympus OMD[/shoplink] alike design! It means the camera has a Full Frame E-mount, has many of the NEX-7 controls and NEX-7 grip…but the viewfinder is in the middle!!! And no, it doesn’t have the design from the A3000! It’s really something new, has just a tiny bit bigger size than the RX1. Both models (cheap and more expensive camera) do have the same design. And as I told you yesterday, the cheap model has a 24MP sensors and the more expensive model has a 36MP sensor.

I keep receiving rumors every hour. Stay tuned on SAR!

P.S.: one of the trusted sources actually saw the NEX-7 designed prototype version with the EVF in the corner. What I am checking now is if that kind of design will come in a future model or not!

(SR5) Cheap NEX-FF has 24MP, High End NEX-FF has 36 MP

Share

I got 100% trustworthy info on the new NEX-FF cameras:

1) The cheap NEX-FF has a 24MP sensor

2) The High end NEX-FF has a 36MP sensor

There are also some small…”surprises” I am working on. Just give me the time to triple check everything because some of the info is really…weird…like the…name! But now I am really 100% sure there will be two E-mount FF models.

(SR5) Two E-mount FF to be announced in two weeks.

The RX1 components.

The last 24 hours were very busy on the rumor front. I got many messages from different anonymous sources saying that there are two new E-mount Full Frame cameras to come in mid October. One model is a cheap and another one is a more expensive model. I have bene told that both do have a fixed EVF. And two of them also told me that the cameras are not branded as a NEX-9 series. And there may be a surprise too because there could be one substantial design change compared to the NEX-7.

I am working on the specs yet and hope more sources can share details soon. Use the anonymous contact form you see on the right border of the browser or contact me at sonyalpharumors@gmail.com if you can share more details.

Sony (erroneously?) listed as Medium/Large format exhibitor

Share

The PhotoPlus website listed Sony within the Medium and Large format category too. There were some rumors saying Sony could produce a medium format sensor for other companies (like Hasselblad). But this isn’t a rumor from my trusted sources and that’s why I wouldn’t give it too much attention for now. Don’t dream about a digital [shoplink 21165 ebay]Hasselblad 503cw[/shoplink] liek I am doing :)  Could be a simple error too! May some source can enlighten me a bit on that?

UPDATE: Also Nikon is listed there. And according to patents they are indeed working on a medium format camera (Source: PetaPixel). And they alreayd made lenses for Bronica and Plaubel Makina medium format cameras.

Thanks Bjoern for finding and sharing the link!

That NEX-9 image is fake…

Share

I keep receiving many mails from readers asking me about that NEX-9 image posted at PChome. I only post this to tell them all that this one is fake. This is a NEX-6 with a photoshopped NEX-9 writing. That said the NEX-9 is indeed very close to the NEX-6/7 design. So don’t expect any radical changes!

(SR4) NEX-FF and NEX-APS-C announcement around October 16.

Share

The new Sony cameras “WW328261” and “WW328262” are also listed on a Taiwan agency website.

Two new sources just told me that Sony will announce new products on October 16. It may be a different date depending on the time zone (October 15 in Los Angeles for example).

And a trusted source contacted me to tell me more about yesterday’s leak at public Indonesian agency Postel. The two “WW328261” and “WW328262” cameras should be a new NEX-FF and a new NEX-APS-C camera.

Rumors from others: No new Canon DSLR this year. Pentax K-3 with Sony 24 MP sensor.

While we are waiting to see what Sony will announce in mid October there is also something going on on the competition front.

What you see on top is the new Pentax K-3 that will be announced in early October. It will feature the same Sony 24 megapxiel sensor from the SLT-A77. Interesting, the K-3 has a “Software AA Filter” (no Hardware filter!).

Nikon will announce the D610 on October 7. It’s basically a D600 with more fps and some minor fixes (Source: Nikonrumors).

Canonrumors reports that Canon will not release any new cameras this year. Thank God we have Sony that will give us some excitement in October ;)
