(SR3) Next generation SLT cameras coming with mirror flip up mode? Check the patent!

The new Sony SLT design patent.

A week ago a new source claimed to know that the next generation of SLT cameras will have a Flip Up mirror. And see what happened today, I just discovered a brand new published Sony patent describing exactly how this will work! More here at freepatentsonline. The patent has been sent in back in 2009 and it is certainly not a prove that the rumor I got is correct. But at least it shows you that Sony is actually thinking on it.

As you know the so called “translucent mirror” reflects about 1/3 of stop of light for the use of the phase detection mirror. And many SAR readers wanted Sony to implement a mirror lock up mode to be able to get out the best possible image quality from their camera. The next SLT camera is scheduled for a release in February-March. I am working on a bunch of SLT, NEX and lens rumors and I hope to share some more good news like that soon! As I told you, even Canon and Nikon will envy us ;)

I kindly invite you to join the very active and growing Facebook community! And s ubscribe the RSS feed (Click here) and Twitter (Click here) stream. You really will not miss all the news and rumors that will come from now on!

Reminder (SR = Sonyrumor):
SR1=probably fake rumor
SR2=rumor from unknown sources
SR3=50% chance it is correct
SR4=rumor from known sources
SR5=almost certainly correct!

Another A99 review (and an info about cheap A99 UK deal).

Share

SAR reader Dave (Thanks!) made this image to show you how Apples compare to Apples :)   Check the A99 review at Dpreview. Also ePhotozine posted a new A99 review and it got a “Highly Recommended” mark.

A warning for EU readers: As you knwo ther eis that crazy 2200 Euro price on the A99 at [shoplink 15977 ebay]ukbnsuk on eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. Our reader “Arismakr” (Thanks!) got some info about the store: “The camera is an “NTSC only” model and that means PAL is not an option for European buyers. As you may understand there will be a problem with video playback in Europe. They also told me that the box is not sealed whatever that means

Soudns like they improt the camera from cheaper Asian stores!

New Sigma 35mm f/1.4 keeps receiving lot of appraisals!

Share

The new Sigma 35mm f/1.4 lens keeps surprising the reviewers:
DSLRmagaizne (translation here) tested the lens on a Canon and writes that it has a “superb optical performance“.
Lenstip also tested the lens: “The Sigma has the best results of all 1.4/35 lenses, tested by us so far in the categories of resolution, distortion, chromatic aberration and coma correction.

This may be one of the nicest new lenses you can get for the A-mount system. And soon we hope to see that new Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 too :)

NEX-6 review at Engadget and SonyAlphaLab.

Image courtesy: DC.watch.

One of the nicest new cameras we had in 2012 is certainly the NEX-6. And the image posted by DC.watch (you see it on top) makes it look even more beautiful :) They tested the NEX-6 with the great looking (and superbly manufactured) Ricoh GR  21mm f/3.5 which is such a hard to find lens that there is no even one [shoplink 15992 ebay]single auction on eBay[/shoplink].

That said we have two new complete NEX-6 reviews at Engadget and SonyAlphaLab. And the camera gets lot of positive feedback from both reviewers. There is also a new Sony NEX-5R review at Cnet Asia.

Now let’s see what’s coming soon from the NEX front. The 85mm f/1.8 and what else?

Reminder: The luxury leather case producer Gariz announced a new case for the NEX-5r and NEX-6!
NEX-5R: You can buy it on their [shoplink 15853 ebay]eBay store (Click here)[/shoplink]. There is also a [shoplink 15887 ebay]Light Brown (Click here)[/shoplink] and [shoplink 15888 ebay]Brown (Click here)[/shoplink] version. Gariz has also some other little leather accesories for the NEX-5r like lens cap and bags (look here via Slidoo eBay).
NEX-6: Gariz also released three different NEX-6 case: [shoplink 15882 ebay]Brown (Click here)[/shoplink], [shoplink 15884 ebay]Black (Click here)[/shoplink] and [shoplink 15883 ebay]AllBlack (Click here)[/shoplink]. (full list at Slidoo).

(SR4) Sony to announce new “photographic” products in early January.

Share

Your really will not have to wait a long time to see some new stuff from Sony. Trusted sources just informed us that Sony scheduled a new product announcement for early January. You may know that the CES show starts on January 8th. What you don’t have to expect is a FF NEX or a FF SLT. What you certainly will see is new compact cameras. I am still not sure if the new A-mount lenses (18-270mm and 50mm Zeiss) will be released now or in February. And so the 85mm f/1.8 E-mount lens.

Will let you know as soon as I get a note form trusted sources! Stay tuned on SAR! Subscribe the RSS feed (Click here) and Twitter (Click here) stream and the Facebook fan page (Click here)!

A99 gets Gold Award at Dpreview!

Share

The full A99 review is now up at Dpreview (Click here). The camera earned a Gold Award(!). DPR writes: “The SLT-A99 is a feature-rich camera that still provides a wealth of easily accessed manual user controls. It stands out as the only full frame camera to offer in-body stabilization, an EVF and articulated rear screen. Budding videographers will enjoy brisk AF performance as well as the option to output uncompressed video.

It’s an overall very impressive performance! The A99 got a 84% score. For reference the Nikon D800 and the Canon 5D Mark III scored at 82% “only”.

Two low A99 prices in US and UK:
In US the cheapest place where you can get the A99 is on [shoplink 15978 ebay]BigValue (Click here)[/shoplink].
In Europe the A99 issold by [shoplink 15977 ebay]ukbnsuk on eBay (Click here)[/shoplink] for 2.200 Euro only! The feedback they get from buyers is very positive and there are some positive feedbacks form A99 buyers too. Question is how they make it to sell it for that price!
