First picture of the new pancake 16-50mm E-mount lens!

Share

We now saw pictures of all cameras but not of the new three NEX lenses. But at least I can share another picture I found through an Asian forum. It is the super tiny 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 pancake(!) zoom lens with buil-in stabilization and power zoom! It is as small as the similar Panasonic 14-42mm X lens (Click here) but covers a larger APS-C sensor. Another amazing achievement from Sony engineers!

Here is the list of the three upcoming E-mount lenses:

  • Sony 10-18 f/4 OSS: available in November 2012 for $850.
  • Sony 35mm f/1.8 OSS: available in December 2012 for $450.
  • Sony 16-50 f/3.5-5.6 OSS (kit lens): available in January 2013 for $350.

Sony RX1 costs $2799! Same A99 sensor. Electronic and Optical viewfinders coming too!

Share

The upcoming Full Frame RX1 will use the same 24 Megapixel sensor of the A99 and be priced at $2799. Like the A99 it has 14 bit RAW and ISO range from 100 up to 25.600. Shoots 5 fps and It makes video in AVCHD 2.0. The body is made of magnesium but it is not weather sealed. It has the same A99 3 inch screen but without the smart three way tilting system. I have been told there will be many accessories including optical and electronic viewfinders!

Price comparison: A Nikon D800 (Click here) with 35mm f/2.0 Nikon lens would cost you a total of $3350. A Canon 5DmarkII with 35mm f/2.0 lens almost $3800. To be honest the Nikon and Canon 35mm lenses do have a pretty non impressive quality. The RX1 has a Zeiss! Of course we are comparing apple with oranges but honestly…there is no other camera like the RX1 right now! The camera is too expensive to be considered as a Fuji X100 competitor. But you know, between the RX100 and the RX1 there is enough space for an RX10 ;)

Now that we know the price and the specs let’s do the poll again:

What is the "BIG" thing you would like to get in Q2 from Sony?

No NEX PRO camera. There will be a Sony RX1 Full Frame fixed lens camera instead (pictures leaked!)

Share

The guys from Photoprice Canada leaked the super secret pics of a new Full Frame camera with fixed(!) Carl Zeiss 35mm f/2.0 compact lens on it! So the big Sony surprise wasn’t really a NEX alike interchangeable camera but rather a big RX100 compact camera alike camera. This is a super nice camera but my first thought was…”damn, I would have loved to have it with interchangeable E-mount like the upcoming VG900” :(

P.S.: The lens has a SONNAR design while the already existing [shoplink 13883 ebay]Zeiss 35mm f/2.0 lens (here on eBay)[/shoplink] is BIOGON.
I fear that most of us will wait until we Sony will release an interchangeable version of it…don’t know if I would spend $3000 on a camera with fixed lens. Would you?

Do you like the new Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 FE lens?

This camera is aimed to compete against the Fuji X100 (specs here) and Leica X2 (specs here). But the RX1 will cost more and have a larger FF sensor. But it still will cost a lot less than a Leica M9!!!

Some A99 and A77 picture comparisons. A99 has no built-in Flash!

Share

Rumor update: There was a small important error in the A99 specs transcription I posted yesterday. There is no built-in flash in the A99!

SAR readers sent me some very useful image comparison between the A99 and the [shoplink 8461]A77[/shoplink] and A900. The image on top is from Chad (Click on it to enlarge the picture).
Rob sent me this:  “Put together a size comparison of the a99+a77, as is obvious, the a99 is wider at the left hand side of the camera, and taller too ;D Sweet! http://i48.tinypic.com/2431653.jpg
Ren sent me this: “Here is a link to an overlay I did of the a99 and a77 for size comparison. Thought you might want to share. http://www.goldeneraphoto.com/People/sony-a99/25262338_PXXvpq#!i=2074631963&k=XDRJp9z”
Thank you all guys!

(SR5) Hot: First Sony A99 image leak (via xitek)

Share

An anonymous reader sent us this picture found on the chinese Xitek (P.S.: He forgot to send me the link…you may send it to me?). My sources told me that this is a 100% correct picture of the upcoming new Sony A99 Full Frame SLT camera. The camera will be announced next week on Wednesday September 12th. As I told you before Sony wanted to realize the best hybrid video and still Full Frame camera on market by beating the current Canon 5DmarkIII. What is coming along the A99 is not only a camera but also a whole system of innovative accessories around it. It also marks the possible end of the classic DSLR Full Frame line with optical viewfinders. The [shoplink 3028 ebay]A850 (Click here)[/shoplink] and the A900 (Click here) were the last two models with viewfinder.

Below you can find the full A99 specs and the info about all the rest of the Sony stuff that is going to be announced on the same say. I want to highlight once again that I can confirm that there is also a new unexpected professional NEX camera coming too! I am working on that rumor but it looks like only few people on the world have access to the info. It’s the best kept Sony secret ever. I have been told this is a “Game Changer camera”. I highly recommend you all to follow SonyAlphaRumors in these days. Sony may be the big star at Photokina if all those rumors are correct.
