Ryan Brenizier (Click here / via noisycamera) posted a new NEX-5n review: “If “workhorse dSLRs” have reached maturity, mirrorless cameras are still in their awkward teens: They have so much potential, but each one brings their own quirks. The 5n is no exception — at different times it left me jumping around excitedly and scratching my head in frustration.”

Also ePhotozine (Click here) posted a new NEX-5n review: “This could be the best NEX and whilst a subtle update, it gives quicker performance in use (including an impressive 10fps shooting), better battery life, higher resolution, touch screen aids control and there are new lenses available, which will be especially good news to anyone who has already bought into the NEX system“.

Official at Sonystores: NEX-7 delayed in USA

Share

Our reader John sent us the following message sent him by Sonystore USA:

Hello XXX,
Thank you for your recent Sony purchase.
We would like to inform you we are experiencing a delay with your Sony order.
Due to the flood in Thailand and the direct damage to Sony’s manufacturing facilities resulting from the flood, Sony is not able to meet the original delivery schedule that we shared with you when you ordered the NEX-7 camera.  It is our highest priority to launch the NEX-7 as soon as possible and we would like to update you bi-weekly beginning Monday, November 21st until we can confirm the new intended shipping date.  As a reminder, pursuant to your pre-order terms, your charge will not place until the order is shipped.
We apologize for this unforeseeable situation and thank you for your continued support.  You are going to love your NEX-7 camera!

Sincerely,
Sony Customer Care

What worries me is that “bi-weekly” notification service. It really gives you the idea of how long you have to wait to get the [shoplink 8454]Sony NEX-7[/shoplink]! I looked at the status on other websites. Amazon JP still says “usually ships within 2 to 3 weeks”. It is temporarily out of Stock at Amazon UK and “noch nicht verfügbar” at Amazon DE. Only Amazon US doesn’t accept preorders anymore. Days ago I told you that I got the info from sources that full production will be back in February only.

New NEX 50mm f/1.8 lens tests

Share

From all new NEX lenses this is probably the lens that has the highest probability to become a hotseller. The new [shoplink 8448]Sony 50mm f/1.8[/shoplink]! According to Sonystore (Click here) the lens will be available in mid December. The lens is relatively cheap but the specs are tempting and image quality now proves to be very good. Just look at the latest review posted by ThePictureDesk (Click here): “I shot a fair number of images with the Sony Zeiss 24mm on the NEX7 but it was a bit wide. Once I switched to the Sony E-mount 50mm f1.8 I realized what a great little lens this is. All the press and buzz has been around the Zeiss 24mm. There have been a couple discussions about the 55-210 and a few about the new 50mm. I think the 50mm is one lens most NEX photographers would appreciate.“. You can also see some image samples posted at DC.watch (Click here).

This is definitely a lens to go! Preorders are available at [shoplink 8448] (Click on shop name to check price and availability). To bad it’s not available in black color too. Would look amazing on my current [shoplink 8452]Sony NEX-5n[/shoplink] and future [shoplink 8454]Sony NEX-7[/shoplink]!

(SR2) Is this the new upcoming 30mm f/2.0 lens for NEX?

UPDATE: Weeks ago I received the image of the 30mm f/2.0 lens for NEX. I am still not sure if that is just a well made PS job. What’s interesting is that a good source said that there is really a 30mm NEX prototype lens. Could the sender of the picture tell me more about this picture?

Free advertising for Sony. Sony is facing a hard challenge in Thailand. And I know from my sources they are working day and night to rebuild a new factory. The NEX-7 will not be available this year but feel free to get that amazing little and extremely powerful NEX-5n. It’s a way to help Sony and a perfect camera for shooting your Christmas time. Get it here at [shopcountry 8452] or in other stores you like. And if you need a nice cheap lens, get the Sony 50mm f/1.8 lens too at [shopcountry 8448]. I can highly recommend that amazing combo! I do own the NEX-5n and you get many mroe times what you pay for!

Private message. I am back :)

Dear readers!

I am finally back from my one week work trip to NYC. I can finally be fully “operative” on SonyAlphaRumors again. I will also spend a couple of hours to check all the emails I received and try to answer you all. The main thing I will do in these days is to understand how the Thai flood will impact on the financial results, camera availability and on the future camera roadmap. As you know the A99 should have been announced within the next 5-6 months but I guess that it will take a lot of time for Sony to resume the production. Let’s see.

P.S.: There has been one incomplete article that has been scheduled accidentally and have been online for a couple of hours. Sorry, have been flying overseas and had no Internet connection to remove it earlier.

Sony NEX-7 review at Photoreview

[shoplink 8454][/shoplink]

While I am still waiting to see when the first few and lucky SAR readers will get their [shoplink 8454]NEX-7[/shoplink] camera you may take a look what reviewers are writing about it:

There is a new full Sony NEX-7 review at Photoreview (Click here): “Subjective assessments of image files from the review camera show them to be a lot like those from the SLT-A77. This is to be expected since both cameras have the same sensor and image processor chips. The kit lens, which we covered in our review of the NEX-5, is an adequate performer but not in the same class as the Sony DT 16-5 0mm f/2.8 SSM lens, which we used for the SLT-A77 review. Consequently, it’s not surprising to see our Imatest results slightly below those obtained with the A77.

You heard Sony? We need a pro zoom lens (and of course the pancakes). I hope Sony will soon give us some news about the upcoming new roadmap!

Garrard: Sony A77 has too many Megapixels!

Share

Carl Garrarard from Alphamountworld (Click here) posted his final word about the Sony A77. The real problem he has with the new 24 megapixel sensor is that “while there is no doubt that specification will please some photographers greatly, I feel the vast majority would have been happier with 14-18mp where the A77 could have performed better as an overall-do it all kind of camera. I simply think the megapixel race has ended, and there’s only so much resolution one needs on an APS-C DSLR that is practical to use day in and day out for multiple photographic tasks.

Carl (like me) would have been happy with less Megapixels or with a new pixel binning function that would have added an option to shot with less Megapixels and higher ISO performance when needed.

And than there is that Sony JPEG engine which has to be improved: “First of all I feel way too much noise reduction is being done on the Jpegs at ALL ISO values, which robs detail in every 24mp file you save. Then why have 24 megapixels you ask? Good question.

But a part of that the A77 proves to be an excellent camera if you shoot RAW and low ISO: “If you are going to shoot Raw only and don’t mind shooting at ISO 1,600 and under (or just normally don’t) then the A77 is a fine photographic instrument able to reach resolution levels no other APS-C DSLR or DSLT has been able to reach yet. For gigantic color rich prints with lots of dynamic range, the A77 is a fantastic tool“.

Editor’s note: I fully agree with Carl. I can recommend this camera to anyone shooting RAW and low ISO images (like landscapes). And of course if you shoot video than the A77 is almost a must have camera!

And here is the A77 full link list to check where it is in Stock: [shopcountry 8461].
