Veyr first E-mount Noktor 50mm f/0.95 test by Steve Huff

Share

That is a beats of a lens! The picture shows the Noktor 50mm f/0.95. But how good (or bad) performs the lens in the real world? Steve Huff (Click here to read the review) tested the lens on the new [shoplink 7207]Sony NEX-C3[/shoplink]. You can see many image smaples on his website and all I am going to report here is that the lens perfroms better than the m43 version fo the Noktor. Steve Huff is also giving away one lens for free!

You can get the current 28mm and 35mm lenses from SLR magic on [shoplink 8242 ebay]eBay (Click here)[/shoplink]. The Noktor is available on their homepage (Click here).

(SR5) Some new tidbits about the A77 (A77 weights 680g and A65 weights 543g)

Share

I am continually getting small details from many sources. Those are the latest few bits:

The EVF menu is customizable and is as bright as the optical viewfinder from the [shopcountry 3032]A900[/shoplink]!
Almost all operations can be done with the eye on the EVF
Smart teleconverter (1.2x and 2.0x digital magnification)
Has Picture effects, A-HDR, Creative style
50ms minimum release time lag
Very good audio noise reduction
A77 weights 680g and A65 weights 543g

I still didn’t get detailed info about the image quality (stills and videos). Many sources do say the quality is on very high level. I guess we will see the first image samples on Wednesday August 24. Be sure to be online at SAR to follow the Sony announcement!

P.S.: You can find SAR also on Google+, Facebook and Twitter!

Cool (and expensive) stuff from Sony: Binoculars with built-in video recording feature!

Share

Sony announced two new binoculars with built-in recording features (the DEV-3 and DEV-5)! You can read a preview written by our freind David Kilpatrick at Photoclubalpha (Click here). A full press release is available at Engadget (Click here).

UPDATE: You can already buy the two binoculars at Amazon US:
DEV-3 at Amazon (Click here).
DEV-5 at Amazon (Click here).

Below you can see a first preview made by a suisse website (there are english subtitles):

One more thing: David wrote: “An invitation to a Sony event on August 15th seemed perfectly timed for the announcement of the Alpha 77 and 65, NEX-7 and NEX-5n. In fact, those cameras are to be launched in Greece before August 24th when their embargo will be lifted – and Photoclubalpha, as a very minor player in this business, is not on the guest list.

Yes, the new Sony cameras and lenses will be announced in a huge event in Greece on August 24. And I found it pity that Sony didn’t invite David. Doesn’t matter how small his website is, he is a long time Alpha shooter and writer! Come one Sony!

– The NEX-5N weights 210 g.
– The NEX-7 has a Level Gauge and gridline
– A77 and A65 X-Sync is 1/250
– The new 55-210mm E-mount lens has actually a surprising “outstanding image quality”
– NEX-7 feel surprisingly light (at the same time solid).
– The A77 has 2.5 to 4.5 IS compensation

Personal note: I am very busy in this days. Sorry If I cannot answer all your emails within a reasonable time. Thanks for your understanding!

Sony A55 transparent mirror removed and analyzed!

Share

TheSyberSite (Click here) investigated the bugs and limitations of the Sony A55. And he gave a particular attention to the translucent mirror construction He actually removed the A55’s mirror!). The mirror is made by flexible plastic (See the picture on top). Also without the mirror you can use the A55 to take picture (of course autofocusing will not work!). It would have been nice to see if there is some kind of improvement in the image quality. That’s why I contacted the author of the test. He said he will post such a comparison soon.

Thanks Ray!

(SR3) New Sony A77/NEX-7 EVF made by Samsung?

Share

A source told me an interesting background story. According to him the A77 uses an “Active Matrix-OLED with RGB pattern” and it is made by ….Samsung!

It is using the new 5.5 Generation factory and using the new laser technology instead Fine Metal Mask that was used before in all the Samsung OLED. The new laser tech allow Samsung make higher resolution displays (many new smartphones and tablets are coming with HD reolution this year). Also they are using a new green organic material PHOLED (they already are using the red PHOLED in the OLED displays.)”
Sony and Samsung are working together in this new display and it is probably that Samsung uses it too.
The technical features are under embargo and it won´t be available until 2012, but the display is big compared with other high resolution displays, it is around 0.9″ diagonal size and 4:3 form factor, but can be adapted to 3:2 and 16:9.

Thanks source for sending me that! Like those kind of insider stories ;)
