A new source just sent me the first images of the Sony A7V…waiting for permission to post!

Share

A new source just sent me images and a video of the new Sony A7V. He requested me to not post the entire images and now I asked me if I can share some “crops” of those images. I am awaiting his answer and if he agrees I will publish the images ASAP. All I can say for now is that indeed the A7V is very close to the look of the predecessor.

Stay tuned and subscribe the newsletter and Youtube channel. I will send you the newsletter and notify my YT live stream as soon as I can!

UPDATE: Got the permission to post TWO images. So I will move ahead and write the article.

Sony USA May Raise Prices by 10% on September 22?

Share

An anonymous source told me that on September 22, Sony USA may raise the prices of cameras, lenses, and accessories by up to 10%. I hope this turns out to be wrong — but since other manufacturers have recently increased their prices, there’s a real chance Sony will follow.

So if you’ve got something on your wishlist, it might be safer to order now rather than wait until after September 22 -> Sony cameras/lenses at BHphoto, Amazon, Adorama.

Nikon Zr vs Sony FX3 by Matti Haapoja: We truly need the FX3II now!

Share

Matti Haapoja made a first direct comparison between the two cameras:

Main takeaways:

  • Image quality: The Nikon ZR offers more detail, dynamic range, and easier color grading (especially with RED RAW) compared to the FX3. FX3 still wins in H.265 shooting.
  • Autofocus: Both are strong, with the ZR marking a breakthrough for RED cameras.
  • Slow motion: FX3 has no crop at 4K/120p, but ZR can record 4K/120p in RED RAW — a big advantage.
  • Body & usability: FX3 has better mounting points and dual card slots, but ZR counters with a brighter 4” LCD, 32-bit float audio, and lighter design.
  • Low light: FX3 is stronger thanks to its 12MP sensor, but ZR is still very capable.
  • Price: The ZR is the clear winner, almost half the cost.
  • Lenses: Sony has the bigger native lineup, but the ZR can adapt E-mount glass, making switching easier

My own thoughts: The real impressive “feature” of the Nikon Zr is it’s low pricing. This will fore Sony to make a FX3III that is cheaper or with credible much better performance than the Nikon Zr to justify it’s high price tag. I think we will not have a long time to wait until Sony releases the new FX3II to take away the spotlight from the Nikon Zr and Canon C50!

Note: He also made this one correction video: The Nikon ZR is powerful and affordable, but its extreme data rates make it less practical for many users.
