This is the week Sony will have to let us know if they got the Canon EOS-R5 message or not…

Share

On April 30 at 10:00 am EDT time (16:00 Berlin time) Sony will live stream the event they had planed for the NAB show. Now, I told you not to have to many hopes: This is a professional broadcast event and we are likely to get the three new Sony Cine E-mount autofocus lenses and probably new camcorder(s).

But I still hope that Sony marketing has learned the lesson from the recent Canon EOS-R5 marketing strategy:

1) This camera was first pre-announced on February 13
2) On March 13 Canon shared some more specs
3) On April 20 Canon shared the full video specs

Canon keeps releasing small info about this camera every month and we still don’t know when it will be on the market (likely very end 2020) and how much it costs. But this whole marketing path created a hype where Sony “looks” like a looser (I said “looks”).

So I damn hope that on April 30 Sony will at least give us some hint about their A7sII successor. A teaser, an early vague spec or whatsoever to start to change the narrative in Sony’s favor! Let’s keep our fingers crossed…

Camera worldwide shipments dropped by 58% in March

Share

CIPA just published the worldwide camera shipment report for March. Japanese companies shipped 58% less cameras compared to last year. And this slow path will surely continue for the next couple of months as long as the virus will force lockdowns on countries.

That’s why Sony is going to delay the launch and production of new cameras. This includes the new RX/Cybershot camera that was registered in January and still hasn’t been announced :(
