Pierre Paqueton about the new Batis: “aperture is low enough to make it dreamy”

Zeiss Photographer Pierre Paqueton shared a couple of new shots taken with the yet to be announced new Batis tele portrait prime lens. When asked about the lens aperture he did answerthis:

aperture low enough to make it dreamy, and that’s all you need to know 😉

and in a next post:

I know so many of you are very curious as to what the focal length and aperture of the new Batis lens might be. Although, I can’t tell you any specifics, I hope this photo gives an idea of how shallow you can get with the lens. Sharp detail, focus, and Bokeh are 3 main factors for me when creating a shot. And I’m happy to say this lens exceeded my expectations in all 3 categories.

The lens will be announced within 1-2 weeks!

(SR4) New Sony High End E-mount Camera rumor: Low resolution, high speed and 20fps

SonyA9
The mirrorless protoype shaped like a DSLR from Sony (2014)

Before the A6500 announcement a first time source sent me the info about the A6500 camera and I posted it with low SR2 ranking. Of course now we know the rumor turned out to be correct.

Now he shared some info about the possible new High End E-mount camera from Sony. Please note that there is yet no guarantee he is right on those rumors too. But at least the info is more “Likely” to be true:

  1. The camera under development seems to have 2 models.
One is high-resolution model around 70MP, and the other is super high-performance AF, super high speed continuous shooting, and super high ISO sensitivity model.
  2. The first model to be released will be the low rez and super high-performance AF camera
  3. I don’t know whether both models are released like α7, 7R or A9.
  4. Many professional photographers introduce Emount, and Sony receives many requests from professional photographers through PRO support. High-end Emount camera (probably α9) will become the camera in response to the demand of professional photographers.
  5. The camera with lower resolution sensor is very fast and has in its prototype stage shoots around 20 fps

From other trusted sources we know this: The new High End camera has unlimited RAW buffer time, dual memory card slot (probably dual SD and not the dual XQD version as reported 1 year ago), and a larger than A7rII body. Also the model with Lower Megapixel count and higher FPS seems to be the one that will be announced first.

Sony registered a new camera code….for a new FF E-mount?

The chinese public agency Miit.gov.cn registered the code of a new Sony camera “WW361847”. Usually this means that within 1-2 months that camera will be announced to the public Now here is the interesting thing:

The “WW3*****” code is usually used to define the A7 camera series! The A7, A7r, A7s, A7II and A7rII all had the “WW3*****” prefix when they gor registered. The only exception is the A7sII which uses the “WW8*****” prefix.

While RX camera use “WW4” and “WW8” prefix.

So this backups  the rumor we posted yesterday that Sony will announce something “Big” in April.

Status updated on the next Sony (16-35mm GM and something BIG) and next Zeiss (Batis 135mm) announcements

I had the chance to talk with my trusted sources about the next Sony and Zeiss announcements:

Sony:
There was some chatter about a possible Sony announcement by late March. Our trusted sources now informed us that a new Sony announcement is very likely to happen in April (and not by end of March). But they have yet no info about a specific date. They confirm the 16-34mm f/2.8 GM should be announced on that event. Sony is very hush-hush on spilling out info about the next Sony camera but trusted sources said Sony told them to expect something “BIG” :)

Zeiss:
A trusted source got some info about the next Zeiss Batis tele portrait prime lens. It will be available for preorder in late March. The exact announcement day is unclear yet but it sounds like we may have to wait 2-3 weeks before we get full details about the lens (which is rumored to be a 135mm f/2.8).

I am also working on the next Sigma FE lens details and I hope to be able to share some more info soon.

New $40 fisheye E-mount lens from a chinese company

Our reader YC just spotted a new teaser for a Fisheye MFT lens made by a chinese manufacturer:

Some info from a Chinese mirrorless forum:
 http://tieba.baidu.com/p/5004916064?pid=104825892670&cid=104826339998#104826339998
This guy claimed that his little team from Shenzhen, China is designing a super compact fisheye macro lens for E/X/M43 mount. The length is only 6mm. On APS-C it’s a 180 diagonal fisheye. The aperture is F8 and you cannot stop down. The minimum working distance is only 1 cm. It contains 1 AA glass. The corner sharpness wouldn’t be worse than the other fisheye lenses on the market (at least he said so).
They have finished the first prototype. Several samples are included in the thread. The price is 299 CNY = 43.44 USD. They’ll start a fund raising program from March on the Chinese website JD.com (kind of like Amazon). The early bird price is 249 CNY = 36.18 USD. The product is planned to be shipped from June. But I guess they don’t have any plan for oversea market yet.

Sigma CEO confirms that they will launch Full Frame E-mount lenses

Dpreview interviewed Mr. Kazuto Yamaki from Sigma. And he once again confirmed they are developing FE lenses:

Yes, that’s our plan. Our plan is to develop full-frame lenses for Sony E mount, and in the future we will have more E mount lenses. But it takes time. Normally it takes about two years to develop one lens, sometimes three. So even if I start the process now, the lens might come out in two years time.

So the catch here is that “it takes time“. This means we shouldn’t expect to get Sigma FE lenses within the next couple of months. But there is a “hidden” good news in that. The fact that he said it needs at least 2 years to develop these lenses certainly means that those are from ground up newly designed specifically for E-mount. And not just “mount-adapted” versions of current existing DSLR lenses. And that’s exciting news!

One more thing: With our ART prime rumor we proved we have now a good insights in Sigma’s plans. Expect SAR to give you some Sigma FE lens details some time ahead of the announcement ;)
