(SR2) Sony rumored to announce a new 18-105mm PZ E-mount Cine Lens.

Bildschirmfoto 2016-03-27 um 10.49.13

Current FS5 and FS7 owners certainly miss a PZ lens which suites for the sensor size of their camcorder. The current Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS Lens is not wide enough for them. So let’s hope this rumor is correct. I got this from an anonymous source who also sent me the new FF E-mount camcorder rumor (article here). I have no confirmations from reliable sources so pelase take it as usual with a grain of salt. The source writes:

Just heard from an industry source that Sony are producing an updated G-Master E PZ Cine Lens 18-105mm due around Nab 2016 (Editos’r note: Updated version of the Sony FE PZ 28-135mm f/4 G OSS Lens)
My Source was not sure of the final f-stop except that it would be Parafocal and maintain the same f-stop throughout the zoom range. Their own personal feeling was that would still be about f3- f4 but with improved image resolution and performance to warrant the G moniker.

(SR4) Three new Zeiss FE lenses will be announced in October 2016?

ZeissBatis

Two sources told us there will be three new Zeiss branded FE lenses in October at the PhotoPlus show in NYC. I am yet not sure if these are all Sony “Zeiss branded” lenses or a mix of Zeiss branded and Zeiss Batis/Loxia lenses.

One source added some info on this. He said Zeiss managers didn’t tell them exactly what’s coming but just as an indication they said these “kind of” lenses are requested by photographers:

Zeiss Batis 35mm f/1.8,
Zeiss 24-70mm f/2 (similar compact size to f/4 version)
Sony Zeiss 16-35mm f/2.8.

Sounds really impossible to get a 24-70mm f/2.0 or f/2.8 zoom with the same f/4.0 size. But as I wrote this are just “requested” lenses and probably do not match the exact specs of the “real” lenses that will be announced at PhotoPlus.

Current Zeiss branded Sony lenses:
Zeiss 16-35mm at [shopcountry 46146].
Zeiss 24-70mm at [shopcountry 46145].
Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 at [shopcountry 461478.
Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 at [shopcountry 46147].
Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 at [shopcountry 46149].
Current “entirely” Zeiss made Batis lenses:
Zeiss 25mm f/2.8 at [shopcountry 46150].
Zeiss 85mm f/1.8 at [shopcountry 46151].
Current “entirely” Zeiss made Loxia lenses:
Zeiss 21mm f/2.8 at [shopcountry 46152].
Zeiss 35mm f/2.0 at [shopcountry 46153].
Zeiss 50mm f/2.0 at [shopcountry 46154].

(SR5) This is the first picture of the Irix 11mm f/4.0 lens. And it’s coming for E-mount too!

Irix_11mm

Diyphotography interviewed Irix who recently announced the new 15mm f/2.4 lens. They confirmed they will make a Sony E-mount version of the lens.

And in the meantime I got the first image of their second lens. The new 11mm f/4.0 which will be announced later this year (Note: the two light dot’s are a reflection).

Here is the interview with IRIX

(SR4) Sony will announce six more new FE lenses within 2016

FE_roadmap
The yet not updated Sony lens roadmap

A source (Thanks a lot!) told us that Sony will announced six new FE lenses within 2016. But this doesn’t mean all of those lenses will ship within 2016. As usual with Sony some of the announced lenses will ship much later (probably by Spring 2017). I should get first details about those new lenses soon!

Do you have any special wishlist? :)

Sigma likely to NOT make an electronic adapter for Nikon F lens owners.

MC1

Animalsbarry sent me this:

“Talked to Sigma tech rep: Sigma will not be making a NIKON version of the mc-11 ever. The reason for this is that there are differrences in how the Nikon lenses work that would be problematic, so Sigma decided to only make Sigma and Canon versions because they are easier.”

Sigma’s new MC-11 adapter cost $249 and will ship in April according to BHphoto (preorder here).

(SR5) Leaked: First image of the new Irix 15mm f/2.4 lens!

irix

A SAR readers sent me that image of the first Irix 15mm f/2.4 manual focusing Full Frame lens. It will be available in different mounts. The lens is designed by a Swiss company and rumor has it is manufactured by Samyang.

UPDATE: The lens got announced (Info at irixlens.com). No Sony E-mount version is coming yet. It will probably be announced later by end of this year!

Poll: Who wants Sony to launch the new Sony A6?

SonyA6

So far Sony focused their Full Frame E-mount resources on the Sony A7 line development. But there is room for both a lower end A6 model and a higher end A9 model. Today let’s check how the A6 could be:

  • More compact due the integrated EVF in the corner (no hump in the middle) or no EVF at all.
  • Cheaper price tag: First FF camera under $999?
  • RX1 or NEX-7 alike controls
  • no on sensor stabilization, no high-resolution sensor to keep costs down and size small.

To me the Sony A6 makes sense for one reason: Sony clearly is focusing on the FF market (just look at the lens developed the last 2 years…all FF!). But the current A7 series is still too expensive for many enthusiast. A cheap FF camera would help those group of people to get an easier access to the FE system. And Sony would have to bother less on developing specific APS-C only E-mount lenses.

Do you think Sony should launch such a camera?
