Poll: Who wants Sony to launch the new Sony A6?

SonyA6

So far Sony focused their Full Frame E-mount resources on the Sony A7 line development. But there is room for both a lower end A6 model and a higher end A9 model. Today let’s check how the A6 could be:

  • More compact due the integrated EVF in the corner (no hump in the middle) or no EVF at all.
  • Cheaper price tag: First FF camera under $999?
  • RX1 or NEX-7 alike controls
  • no on sensor stabilization, no high-resolution sensor to keep costs down and size small.

To me the Sony A6 makes sense for one reason: Sony clearly is focusing on the FF market (just look at the lens developed the last 2 years…all FF!). But the current A7 series is still too expensive for many enthusiast. A cheap FF camera would help those group of people to get an easier access to the FE system. And Sony would have to bother less on developing specific APS-C only E-mount lenses.

Do you think Sony should launch such a camera?

(SR5) New Batis 18mm lens is sharper(!) than the 25mm lens

ZeissBatis

The Batis 25mm lens recently got tested by DxOmark who defined this to be a “champion wide lens”. Well according to my Zeiss sources the Batis 18mm will be launched soon and be sharper(!) than the Batis 25mm lens!  The lens should be announced within the next 4-6 weeks. Just let’s hope Zeiss will also catch up with the production for the current Batis lenses:
Batis 85mm in Stock status at [shopcountry 45791].
Batis 25mm in Stock status at [shopcountry 45790].

Javier:I wanted to share with you some of the photos i´ve been doing for the last year with the Sony a6000.
I think it´s an amazing camera at a very affordable price ( even more now that the a6300 is out ). I use it principally for astrophotography with a Samyang 12 mm f2.0 and I think it´s a great combo, you cant find anything better for the money. https://www.flickr.com/photos/jmartinez76/albums/72157663703654559

Said:I’ve started a petition to ask Sony to add these features on the original A7 cameras since Sony seems to have stopped after doing so with the A7ii. Here’s the link : https://www.change.org/p/kazuo-hirai-sony-a7-14-bit-uncompressed-pdaf-with-third-party-adapters

(SR4) Sony A99II early 2016 release postponed

I hate to give you bad news rumors. So I really hope I am wrong on this. But I got reliable info the expected early 2016 A99II launch got postponed. Here is the story:

Back in late autumn two trusted sources got told by Sony that a High End camera would be announced within the next couple of months. One of the trusted sources actually said he expected the announcement to happen in January-February-March. And the camera would be A-mount!
At that point I want to underline that both sources sent me the correct info about the Sony A68, Zeiss Batis, 24-70mm and 85mm GM launch. So they are usually spot on and reliable when sharing those kind of rumors.

What happened to the A99II:
Recently one of the two trusted sources confirmed that Sony told him no A-mount camera would be announced any time soon. Sony did NOT tell him the reason for the launch delay. So we can only guess that maybe the recent Nikon Canon DSLR announcement changed the cards on the table. Or Sony wanted to give the GM lens launch a proper spotlight. We really don’t know yet.

A-mount strategy:
Both sources asked Sony about the A-mount strategy. Sony did not tell them anything yet but assured A-mount is well alive and they will keep developing products for the A-mount line. And that has been officially confirmed last week via Sony itself (read here). And at last the A68 is going to be available for preorder on Monday in USA too (Click here).

Summary: If the rumors we got are correct than we can only hope Sony will take a look to the latest Nikon Canon DSLR announcement to offer a serious and highly competitive new High End A-mount camera. But I admit it’s very frustrating to get only “marketing A-mount word support” from Sony. We need “real” new products Sony!

(SR2) Rumored specs of a new Sony E-mount 6K camera!

Bildschirmfoto 2016-03-07 um 15.34.08

I am not sure about the reliability of that rumor. But fos sure this would be an exciting news for Film makers if the rumor turns out to be true. This is what the source wrote:

Just heard a rumour from an industry source about a new Full Frame Sony FS5 (similar body) camera due this NAB 2016. I have heard that it will have the following:
A Full Frame Sensor (based on a Sony 6K sensor, with improved 4K from it)
Improved AF similar to the [shoplink 45586 ebay]a6300[/shoplink],
10bit 4:2:2 Internal recording (not LongGop)
RAW output similar to the one coming to the FS5
A new Sony Touchscreen
IBIS
Improved Menu System, and easy access to commonly used features.
Improvement Colour Science
Improved White Balance
Price is slightly above the FS7

It would be a hell of a camera!
